So I have a doctor's appointment in 20 minutes. I go into the garage, get into the car, press the brake so that the seat moves to position. Press the brake again and shift to go into reverse and... nothing. Try drive... nothing. Try getting out of the car and getting back in again...nothing. Car stays in Park. I think... OMG, two months of wondering what all these people have been complaining about and here it is. I'm stuck in my garage and I can't get to the doctor. I mash the brake and shift... nothing. I try changing to swift mode. Nothing.

Then I realize. I left my key upstairs.

OK... so I'm an idiot. But in my old Ford, if I tried to go somewhere without the key, the car would let me know. Shouldn't there be some kind of warning that the car isn't shifting because you're too stupid to remember your key? PS -- if there is such a warning somewhere and I just missed it, I'd suggest something on the display the size of the Pet Comfort Mode Warning... something you could see from space.

PS: I made the apointment, but my blood pressure was not quite where it should have been.

There is a key not detected warning. However, I have only seen it intermittently while I'm driving on long trips.

That's one of the advantages of using the auto lock/unlock, the car will not unlock if I forgot the fob 🙂

How did you get in the car with no key?

And why say UX fail, you are being very overdramatic.

Re-title this thread to 'User error: No fault of Lucid, car working exactly as intended'.

This is another negative title thread that implies problems with the car or Lucid for a company that needs to maintain positive momentum and reputation. There is a key not detected warning.

I keep the car unlocked in the garage, so no key needed.

Overdramatic? On the Internet? Never seen that happen!
Overdramatic? The guy who calls himself an idiot? Maybe a tad.
Would you prefer "UX suggestion?" Fine.

I actually don't think I have the ability to rename a thread. I think Mods have to do that. And as I said: if there is a key not detected warning, I didn't see it, so that's a UX problem (while granting that 'fail' is, 'overdramatic'). Finally, anyone reading the OP will instantly understand that the car works fine. Trust readers. Again, following your suggestion, 'Car fails to alert user of obvious driver error as most other cars do, or if they do alert him, it's somewhere where he couldn't find it -- this is the definition of something to that might usefully be addressed in the UI' would be an accurate title, but way too long. PS: I absolutely love the car.

I appreciate you're honesty about the error being on your part and not the car.
I have no proof, but I can see owners/leasees posting a complaint, later realizing their error, and never folllowing up with the full story.

Prior to being able to use the app to put the car in drive, I used the key fob and I do recall seeing the no key detected message.
Can't remember the last time I used the key fob.

I think the car sends the appropriate message about changing gear mode based on how the car is unlocked.
When I used to use the key fob to unlock, I would get the no key detected message if for some reason I didn't keep the fob with me prior to driving.
WhenI use the key card, I get the tap console to drive message.
When I use the app, I get the use the mobile app to drive message.

Since you're leaving your car unlocked, I wonder if the car isn't sure how you're planning to enable drive, so no message is sent.

Thanks. tbh, this really is a UX issue, but it's a pretty minor one. What's interesting to me is that the engineers have the ability to think outside the box here. From Pet Comfort Mode, we know they have the ability to replace the screen with a giant message. Seems to me like someone trying to put the car in gear and being thwarted by keylessness might be a good reason to use that banner message capability, since without the key not much else on the dash is going to matter very much. Barring that, a message in the same place that the "seat is moving" message appears would work fine. I was just trying to be helpful while poking more than a little fun at myself.

How do you keep the car unlocked in the garage? I didn't think this geofencing option was available in the gravity?

You just don’t lock it and turn off auto lock

Edit
Oppps looks like I type to slow

Got it. Like auto lock feature elsewhere too much to do that. Wish it had ability with geofence to keep unlocked at home

It should have popped up a panel asking for your PIN if you tried to shift into gear. Did it not?

Not sure I'd want a "Fisher Price" style warning on the screen, but I would like to see an indication somewhere when a key is detected in the vehicle. That would go against Lucid's motif of "least-possible amount of information displayed to the driver" though.

No PIN on Gravity yet?
