This is why i have trouble with self-driving in general

If you're not paying attention, it can easily kill you.
That's a gospel.
I'm making a sticker with that.
Hoping, you don't mind :)

I would love to see how well a DDP-equipped Lucid would perform if Waymo's software suite was modified enough to be paired with the Lucid's array of radar, lidar, sensors and cameras. Granted, the hardware on the Lucid is nowhere near as robust as the technology bolted onto Waymo's Jaguars, but I bet the result would be impressive. I look forward to the day when, instead of company after company reinventing the wheel, technology like Waymo's becomes the standard. Especially since a standard would open the door to the cars themselves communicating effectively with one another.

The latest version of FSD is pretty impressive - still not perfect, but it is improving dramatically now with each update. No way I would pay $8k for it, but I’m happy to pay the $99/month subscription for a while to see how it goes.

I saw the word "ASS" in your message and immediately wondered who hijacked your account! 🤣

(Summon is a pretty cool feature, I used to lust over it a couple of years ago. I'm shocked not a lot of other car companies have it... although there may be a reason for that)
The second time I've been in this guy's car for a lunch run. This time he showed us the summon feature, which was only partially successful. We were in the mall, waiting on the sidewalk. The car backed out of it's spot, came down the next aisle, but couldn't pass the space in front of the sidewalk. So it stopped at the front of the aisle. We had to run to the car and get in before the cars behind it got too impatient. And I did get a pic of the screen, just to show I didn't make it up.

Sounds like it worked as designed

Agree. We have lots of driverless Waymos out here. If a Waymo encounters something that it can't figure out, it just freezes. Not that different from the drivers out here who get to a new roundabout and freeze not knowing what to do! But it rarely happens.

which is more than I would need or even want. The only self parking feature I want would be a more limited version of summon: the ability to back it out of a space if an ahole parked so close to me that I couldn't get back into my car's driver seat. Once it was out of the space, I am perfectly happy to take over.

With 360 cameras I just don't see the need for anything more than this.

The Ioniq 5 has that, if you let it auto park for you. It will pull out while you hold a button on the remote, get in, and then drive off.

I way prefer that to my car slaloming around a parking lot like a hazard because I couldn’t be bothered to walk across the lot lol

The back out of a space thing could come in handy. There was one time when I was 9 months pregnant and someone parked so close I could barely open the door. I had to go back in the building and have the receptionist page the person with the license plate. And actually, he was kind of an ahole. He was listening to a lecture or something and he would not move his car until it was over.

I would have broken his side window and left a note that said “sorry, tried to page you, the baby broke your window”
