When I try to use the telephone feature to make a call, the screen says to use Apple Car Play. Is there no way to make a call without doing that?

That's a new one. I've never seen that message

Do you have Bluetooth turned on and connected? Sometimes I have to re-pair the device after long disuse of the feature.

The way you know the Bluetooth connected correctly is the population of your contacts. If it isn't working right, your contacts won't load.

If you are using CarPlay, you must use CarPlay. You cannot use both CarPlay and Bluetooth at the same time.

My goal is to be able to make a telephone call without having to press more than one button and/or to use voice command to dial a number. With Apple CarPlay, I push the telephone button, get a message to use CarPlay, have to push that button, and then scroll through CarPlay to get to a telephone number. So, two questions:

If I disable CarPlay, the iPhone should still be connected via Bluetooth to the car and then the voice command should work? Or, once CarPlay is pressed, will the voice command button let me use that to place a call?

You can simply open CarPlay, hit the phone icon *in CarPlay* just like on your phone, and call your person.

And yes, the voice command will let you use Siri. Or you can just say “Hey Siri.”

If you disable CarPlay, the car’s regular Bluetooth phone calling will work.
