Should I get the lucid home charger or something else?

I had a 240V outlet installed in the garage and use the Lucid mobile charging unit that came with the car. Works great on a 50 amp circuit. The current limiter is set to charge at a maximum of 40 amps. That gives me a charging rate of about 40 miles per hour on a 2026 Air Touring which is very adequate for home charging.
This has been working great for me. I average 30 miles a day and charge every 2-3 days up to 70%. My electricity is cheapest from midnight to 6 am.
The car is set to start charging at 12:01 am. See attachment for 3 recent charging session details. I pay 34 cents per Kw here in San Diego.
I love being able to "fill my tank" while I'm sound asleep.

You can also set charge limits based on location

0.115$/kw in or out so no need to schedule around peak solar
We’re on a co-op

At our Long Beach house electricity is $0.59/KWH from 4:00pm-9:00pm. All other times the price is $0.26/KWH so it pays to not charge from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

I've looked at the scheduling and can find a "start time" but haven't seen a "stop time" as part of the schedule. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Lucid vehicles do not have a programmable charging stop time, unfortunately.

Well that's highly suboptimal. I guess need to put that in as a feature request @marqie. Would like to be able to give the car a window (start AND stop) for charging.

It's similar in NorCal, gets more expensive starting at 3pm-4pm, most expensive from 4pm-9pm, back to "more" from 9pm-midnight. So cheapest from Midnight to 3pm. I just set our cars to start charging at midnight and by morning they are, generally, both fully charged (80%).

I never want to charge from 3 to midnight since during that window our two Powerwalls run the entire house and charging a car during that time would quickly drain them (and then the house would be running at the most expensive rate until midnight).

Would be nice to have a stop time, or stop window so it never charges at the most expensive times, but pretty much never run into that. If I do want to charge say, in the morning/early afternoon for whatever reason (e.g. use excess solar), I just manually initiate the charge with an idea, based on how much car charge is remaining, when it will finish by.

Until then set max charge to something that will be reached before the time changes or learn about the lucid api and home assistant. I guess it depends on how critical it is to you.
I’ll bet someone already has it done

Thanks. I have relayed this to our product team for consideration. You are also encouraged to submit feedback like this to [email protected].

Also, we too have a 14-50 outlet in the garage from when we had only one EV. Used the Tesla mobile adapter and it worked fine (only 32 amps though). When we got our Q8 ETron, I got a NeoCharge splitter with the Tesla and Audi mobile adapters plugged in (Audi would do 40 amps). The Neocharge was nice, worked fine, but the whole thing (splitter and two mobile chargers) seemed a bit kludgy. Then dumped the Model S and got the Air, and used the same setup for a while.

I wanted a dual charger, but they were quite expensive and often bulky.

Finally got a REV+ Dual EV charger. Just plugs in (hardwired available too) to my 14-50 outlet and will charge both cars at the same time (which some don't do and the NeoCharge would not). It's a nice small unit, UL certified, and only took a few minutes to mount (comes with mounting hardware). I *did* have to set the REV+ to 40 amps max (since it's a 50 amp circuit breaker), but that took literally 5 seconds with the app. And, it was considerably less expensive than some other options.

REV+ app has some functionality like schedules, which I don't use but may be useful for some. App is "ok", not the greatest, not the worst, it's "fine". The app mainly connect to the unit via Bluetooth, though you do configure WiFi for firmware updates and remote diagnostics. Personally, I'd be OK w/o the app (as long as I can set max amps drawn somehow), but can see its usefulness for some applications.

Finally, yes, I know hardwired is the best, but since we had a 14-50 already there, with a good quality outlet, and nothing ever even gets warm, just decided to go this route and it works great w/o issue.

Part of the reason I installed the Iyilo. I can set start and stop time. I can also get detail on cost per charge and export the data into Excel. In Southeast Michigan my rates are $0.45 peak, $0.17 off-peak, so I set it to charge 11:30 pm to 6:30 am. Our off-peak starts at 7 pm so our Tesla is set to start charging at 7:15.

My first 2 EV’s were teslas and I have a Tesla wall charger which works great. I also have a brand new in the box lucid home charger that I can ship. If you’re interested let me know.

While I like the looks of a wall charger in my garage and the extremely rare occasion when I need to charge quickly while I am awake is nice. If I did it all over I would have installed an EV rated 220 plug and used the mobile charger. When charging overnight it doesn’t matter if it takes 2 hours or 4. In fact I would have installed 3 220 plugs in the 3 car garage as we now have 3 EV’s. Each with a mobile charger that I never use.

This really caught my attention 🙂
Do you get 12kw delivered to each car when charging both at the same time?

Use cases vary, but I went back and forth about this, and ultimately just got the 40amp EVSE that plugs into a 240 wall socket I had installed. I've never missed the faster speed of the 80amp charger. Not once. The scenarios where that becomes a factor are just vanishingly small in my life (basically it would look like unexpectedly driving the car all the way down to an empty battery, then needing to home charge it as fast as possible to make another mid-to-long range trip). So, do as you will, but unless you see yourself regularly needing a fast top-off from basically empty, my guess is your experience will be the same as mine. Home charging works overnight, and for that purpose, either 40 or 80 amps is just fine.
