My experience is that leaving it on AUTO leaves me as the driver uncomfortably warm for longer and dealing with a very loud fan sound.
When AUTO is off and fan set to 5-6 speed (medium-ish), I get more direct air, feeling cool faster, with much less noise.

Not sure how this can be working as intended but my experience with AUTO leaves much to be desired. If AUTO at least gave me the impression that it was cooling more effectively I would understand dealing with the loud fan. It's so bad that I feel it's basically unusable, even when cabin temp is closer to my set temp.

I don’t use auto. I either use max to get it cold fast or I manually adjust the fan speed. Auto just doesn’t get it right for whatever reason. Too slow or too fast. IDK and haven’t run experiments like some folks here. However, this is why I like having buttons. Makes it easy to adjust.

We have the same issue in our R1S with auto HVAC but it’s maddening because it’s all on screen controls.

I always suspect auto doesn't work because the temp readings are always incorrect in the car (both internal and external from what I can tell). My outside temps always read much higher by about 8-10 degrees and although I haven't checked the internal temps with a thermometer it also seems high.

I wish it would take outdoor temp from an app versus what I suspect is a thermometer somewhere in car.

Cabin temp is tough when you’re in it because the air is moving all over. No idea how they’d get that right. Which is why I don’t use auto in any car.
