Share Your Feedback - Enhanced Rear Cabin Comfort

Good update, but I do not see rear climate power state (On/Off) remembering previous setting, every time i get in, fun run full blast even if it was turned off on previous drive.

Did you do something to trigger the rear climate turning on?

For example, I was surprised I had to turn the rear AC off yesterday. However, after thinking about it, I remembered that I threw something into the back seat but remove it before the drive. Once the rear climate automatically turns on (weight, seatbelt, etc.), it must be turned off manually.

The rear HVAC logic is all over the place. Previous to 3.6.3 the rear HVAC would never turn on automatically with my son in his booster seat. At least I knew I’d always have to turn it on if needed. Now it sometimes senses him and sometimes doesn’t. Based on that, the rear HVAC turns itself on and off while driving. He doesn’t always want the rear HVAC on so I turn it off. Now it decides to periodically turn itself back on even after manually turning it off while on the same drive. The HVAC fan is also ridiculously loud anytime the rear HVAC is on. I know it’s one fan so it needs to be on a higher speed to send more air, which in itself is a cheap decision. Really, one fan for the entire Gravity’s HVAC system? But it seems louder using rear HVAC with 3.6.3 then with 3.6.0.
I haven't noticed any increase in sound for rear HVAC. It's as loud as it always has been. And I didn't really find it unusual per se. But are you saying the loud HVAC is a new issue since 3.6.3? Or are you just noting an old one?

I haven't seen the logic mess up at all since 3.6.3. We have a booster seat in, and if my son is in it and buckled up, the HVAC goes on. I would much rather have this current state, which is to occasionally have to turn it off, rather than having to realize it wasn't on in the first place after my kids overheat. To me, this is functioning the same way as any Tesla or BMW or other car we've owned.

The enhanced Rear Cabin functionality of this new update seems to be working as intended.

However, i still find the HVAC logic to be....poor.

On a hot day putting it on 69-71 AUTO seems to make very loud fan noise from the front dash area with very slow improvement in cabin temperature. If i instead just click 'up' on fan speed to 5-6 (taking it out of auto mode), the front dash fans seem to turn off entirely, overall HVAC noise reduces by like 80%, and then I am actually able feel a more satisfying amount of cold air coming out from the front facing vents. Why is it seeming to prioritizing dash vents when it's not in defrost mode? They shouldn't even be turning on at all when the goal is to cool down the cabin. My impression of AUTO is that it remains noisy and ineffective.

As an related tangent/rant - the only thing that truly bothers me about the gravity is the HVAC / vent positions. As a tall driver with seat all the way down it's effectively impossible for me to feel cold air on my face from the left or right sided driver vents - trust me I've tried adjusting the vent 1mm at a time in every possible iteration. The dash overhang blocks it from going up high enough to reach my face. Even left right adjustments are fussy and I can never really get the vents positioned well. The right-sided driver vent is also problematic because half of the cold air deflects off the back lower screen and blasts either my right hand or my right knee with frigid air while my face is warm with radiant heat from above (despite having the shade installed). Once the cabin temp is reduced I'm comfortable but it's overall pretty unsatisfying experience on warm days. Yes - i do pre-condition as much as possible but when the cabin is 110 degrees I'm still typically at the car while it's still cooling.
Really good observations. I will have to check the dash vents as the noise we hear could be that. But I also totally agree that the vent placement doesn't reach the driver well enough and gets blocked by the screen. Design flaw IMO and they should update this in future models, although 2027 had no change.

Southern California climate, I set HVAC to Auto and 68, sync on. 2 adults and 2 kids in rear facing/booster. I let the fan and logic do its thing. Generally satisfied with the hvac performance. I’ve had colder/stronger from VW group (Audi SQ7) but it performs about the same as a Volvo XC90. The sunshade accessory helps keep radiative surface temperatures down.

Prior to 3.6.3 I always assumed rear was not on, and I made a habit of double checking and toggling it on after I made it down the street. Now I just safely assume the rear is on once my kid is buckled in the booster.

I use some logic in Home Assistant to turn HVAC off when I park in my garage so it doesn’t keep turning on as I’m revisiting/rummaging through the car throughout the day.

I do wish the 2nd row climate screen would activate with the rear HVAC activation to help with visual confirmation of activation, the screen logic still seems tied to the pre-3.6.3 occupancy detection rules.

Agree with this one. I'm only 5'8 and still have a hard time adjusting the vents. The one behind the screen is nearly useless. Not really a complaint on my end as on Max it does cool things down pretty quickly. However, I wonder if there isn't some small 3d printed vent attachment you could make/order to redirect the air upwards towards your face. Seems like it'd be easy to make snap-in attachment.

I'll teach ya...it's easier on the wrists than snowboarding!
...Gravity rally to Kirkwood this winter?
(We could finally see how this OEM tires handle snow)
No, not since I was like 8. Been meaning to learn tho

The rear HVAC seems to be defaulted to on now. Went for a drive yesterday and the rear HVAC was on even though there was no one back there and I manually turned it off on my last drive.
Tesla’s HVAC sensors and systems are far superior. I can have a car seat in the back of the Model Y empty and the rear HVAC is off. If my son is in the car seat the HVAC is on. Same with our Model 3 and S.

Installed the update a few days ago, definitely been more consistent in activating the rear HVAC when the kids are in, I think that specific point is nicely resolved.

Still somewhat confusing logic on the HVAC overall, beyond the rear occupancy. It's never clear to me why/when "sync" gets disabled on my next drive.

I never have to turn on the 2nd row climate for the kids anymore since we have a car seat installed using the seatbelt, so it's a huge improvement for us

Mine’s been great with the update and appreciated by my kids and dog. I do think it tends to almost always revert to “on” in second row but since my dog or kids are back there 100% of the time, I’d prefer that behavior.

Only thing that continues to annoy me about second row is having to keep the seatbelts buckled so it doesn’t constantly try to remind me my dog is unbuckled. I wish that warning went away after some period of time.

Some more intel from my testing with AUTO set to ~70.

When on AUTO, the front dash area has loud fan noise. However, the dash vent is not active. It seems to be programed to blow the rear seat fans at higher speed and turns down the front seat vents.
When I turn off AUTO I observe 3 things: 1) The front seat front facing vent output increases 2) The rear seat front facing vent output decreases. 3)Overall HVAC noise considerably reduced.
Of note - I'm not talking about MAX AC mode.

What is surprising to me is that the front dash fan is SO LOUD when AUTO is on but when I turn off AUTO the rear vent speed doesn't really drop that much to justify so much noise with AUTO.

I’ve noticed that too, turning auto mode off greatly decreases fan noise when the rear HVAC is on.

Isn’t this normal? With auto mode, you are letting the Gravity decide how much AC/ fan is needed.

I just did a test with “auto” and “sync” on. Setting the temperature low enough to require cooling, the fan noise is higher with the rear AC on vs not. Isn’t this expected, since more air needs to flow into the rear? It’s my cue to turn off rear climate when driving solo after carrying passengers.

When I changed the temperature setting higher to the current internal ambient temperature across the board, the AC goes whisper quiet with the fan at minimal levels. Maybe the “auto” program needs to be tuned, but the rear climate being on doesn’t always lead to high fan noise.

My experience is that leaving it on AUTO leaves me as the driver uncomfortably warm for longer and dealing with a very loud fan sound.
When AUTO is off and fan set to 5-6 speed (medium-ish), I get more direct air, feeling cool faster, with much less noise.

Not sure how this can be working as intended but my experience with AUTO leaves much to be desired. If AUTO at least gave me the impression that it was cooling more effectively I would understand dealing with the loud fan. It's so bad that I feel it's basically unusable, even when cabin temp is closer to my set temp.

I totally agree with you.

I thought I was the only one with this issue.

When I set it to Auto it feels like a leaf blower just turned on right at the windshield. Maybe that is not intended or for some reason the system thinks it needs to cool the windshield.

When I change it to manual it works better and much quieter but I have to set it to manual every time I get in the vehicle.

I am average height and I find myself fiddling with the AC vent way to often, in my other vehicle I barely mess with the AC vents.

Also, with the new system update all rows now blowing air regardless of anyone there or not which sucks cause now my efficiency has gone done. It did better job before the update.

Now that the 3rd row vents are always on when the 2nd row ones are, even when the 3rd row is stowed (was done for dog owners), the fan does seem louder. Hope they add a setting for this in the future so those of us without dogs can keep the 3rd row vents off when seats are stowed
