Hello all. My wife will be replacing her almost 10 year old Lincoln MKC this fall and she has narrowed it down to the Gravity and G580. We had a G550 in 2020 and she loved it, especially since she sat so high. We were able to test drive the Gravity in Orlando a couple of weeks ago and while she really liked it, she did not feel she sat high enough, even with the air suspension all the way up as well as her seat. So, does anyone have any first hand knowledge of how they compare? I am telling her they are probably pretty close, and since the Gravity is so spacious inside it may seem she is not sitting as high.

Well your wife is right, the Gravity is 13" lower than the G580 (at least for total height of the vehicle). So I don't think the gravity can sit the driver as high up as the G580. My wife was coming from a Mercedes C350 and the Gravity is much higher up than the C350 (and also way higher up than my Prius). If her main concern is she wants to be higher up then the G580 is going to please her more than the Lucid Gravity. A new G580 will be quite a bit more in cost than the Gravity (even than a fully loaded Grand Touring) so there is that...

Yeah, the overall dimensions show the G is higher than the Gravity but it would still be nice to know how high up one sits...they never seem to provide that spec! However, I recently saw a diagram that showed an outline of the Gravity along with 3 other SUVs, 1 being the Escalade, and it seemed those 2 were the same. I do not think the G allows one to sit much higher than the Escalade (?).

The Escalade IQ is almost as high as the E580 in total height at 76 inches so a couple inches lower than the E580. according to The goog the 2016 Lincoln MKC height is 65 inches which is the same as the Gravity. It is possible that the seat position of the Gravity is lower than in the MKC but I'd guess only a couple of inches at most while the E580 and Escalade IQ would be quite a bit higher than either the MKC or Gravity simply because the vehicles are 11 to 13 inches taller.

That is a good point but I am 6'2" and there was a LOT of headroom in the G. Here is the chart I was referring to:

The Gravity is more akin to a minivan (gasp! I actually said it) than a large SUV in terms of how high drivers can get their heads. If she wants to see around that late-model Dodge Ram or F-150 in front of her, though, she'd need a semi, anyway.

I don't know how tall your wife is, but getting into and out the Gravity is considerably easier than in most large SUVs, and the cabin is cavernous for a vehicle of that size. Anything you gain in driving height will be a trade-off against ease of ingress/egress. I also love the good vertical leg drop you have with the Gravity seats. However, at 5'7" it can feel almost too much and may become a problem if you raise the seat to get the maximum head height.

She is 5'9" with a 32 inseam, and she did not feel that she was sitting too high. I wish it was possible to go from one to the other but both are hard to come by, especially the Gravity!

Yes, for me, the Gravity is the perfect height for ingress/egress. Standard SUV’s require that you step up to get into seat, while normal sedans usually required you to drop down and lower yourself into seat. Gravity seat is perfect butt height.

Also, be aware that the Gravity will only remain at the highest lifted height up to about 30 mph. At highway speeds, Gravity will automatically drop to lower setting.

I noticed the same in my test drive last week. We were in traffic, and I noticed that I was looking up at a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Gravity is shorter (less tall) than many other SUVs in its size class.

That is not what we saw. I test drove it last and hit 70. but when we came to a stop after I backed it into the spot the suspension was still up. And butt height is not a concern, for either of us. I like to sit low in sports cars but high in SUVs.

The Gravity has multiple settings. The "highest" setting only goes to 30 mph, but the car will drop to "high" after that. Same with "lowest". It will raise to "low" after 30 mph.

A tidbit of info and warning:

I made a mistake over the weekend. I had parked next to a curb with six people in the car. All the doors opened without issue. When we got back in the car, I made the mistake of hitting the brake pedal while others were still getting into the car. As the driver seat moved into position the suspension lowered and two of the doors got jammed on the curb. It turns out the user-selectable suspension height adjustment does not function when the doors are open (all the selections were grayed out). So I could not raise the suspension to free up the doors.

Even with everyone getting back out of the car, we had to scrape the two doors over the curb, which really roughed up the underside of the black trim pieces at the bottom of the doors. The good news was that the material is soft enough that a medium-grit sanding pad smoothed it out pretty well. As long as you're careful to avoid the upward curve of the strip, none of this is visible without getting under the car to look.

That seems like something worth sending to [email protected]. It's certainly something they could fix in an OTA.

You should probably also consider what kind of luxury experience your wife prefers and expects, especially since she loved her last Benz.

That should not happen....please report so it might get fixed..

Interestingly the Gravity can raise and lower with the trunk and frunk open, but not with the doors. I guess there are no collision sensors in the doors...

I'm going to talk to someone at Lucid about this, but I suspect they see it as a safety issue. If is getting in or out of the car and the ride height starts changing, it could confuse the person or throw them off balance. Any injury resulting from this would be a very long shot, but such are the things of which product liability lawsuits are made.

A solution might be to reprogram the entry/exit feature so that the seat, steering wheel, and suspension don't start to adjust until all the doors are closed. But that has its downside, too. The entry/exit feature pushes the driver seat way back. If someone is riding in the second row, I like to have the driver seat move forward into my driving position so they have better room to climb inside, so I tend to hit the brake pedal as soon as I get in the car while doors are open. (That's what happened the other night when the doors jammed on the curb. We had six people, so I was getting the driver seat out of the way so that the second seat could move forward to open up third-row access.)

What about if they locked the doors until it stopped moving the suspension? My easy entry ride height starts when I unbuckle my seatbelt, but my kids already open the door and jump out as soon as the car stops. That stops the air suspension from raising. I always set it to high out of door paranoia hitting things. To speed things up the car could auto raise to high under 10 mph, and then it just jumps up one notch to highest.

The problem is that the car will lower the ride height on its own with doors open, but will not raise it. So doors can jam on the curb with no way to free them. It should not adjust the height at all with any doors open, since parts of the car are now projecting outside of the footprint that it was last driven into. I've reported this bug to Lucid in multiple ways but have, of course, received no response other than an autoreply.
