Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, has released an affordable performance software upgrade for the Long range Dual motor Polestar 2 in North America, raising the vehicle’s power output by 68 horsepower to a total of 476 hp. This upgrade marks the first time that Polestar has applied its software tuning heritage to an electric car, which is available to customers in the United States and Canada via an Over-the-Air (OTA) download. The permanent upgrade is a one-time cost of $1,195, delivering exceptional value without the hassle of a subscription.

The upgrade adds 68 horsepower and 15 lb.-ft of torque to the existing 408 hp and 487 lb.-ft of torque produced by the dual-motor powertrain, for a total output of 476 hp and 502 lb.-ft. Because the upgrade is software-based, the boost in performance can be downloaded directly to the vehicle without a trip to a Polestar service point, a quick and convenient process for any eligible Polestar owner. The OTA download is available online for eligible owners now in the Polestar Shop website, which is located at www.polestar-shop.com.

Behind the wheel, the performance boost offers increased responsiveness and a sportier experience overall, and the 0-60 mph sprint time has been reduced to 4.2 seconds. The additional power and torque are primarily felt at speeds between 44 and 80 mph, resulting in even, rapid mid-range acceleration. With this upgrade, accelerating from 50 to 75 mph takes just 2.2 seconds – half a second quicker than a standard dual-motor Polestar 2.

“This upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers,” said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. “The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement.”

Exclusively for the Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor

  • 01 Extra power

The performance software upgrade increases the motors' combined certified output over the complete RPM register, increasing power from 408 hp (300 kW) to 476 hp (350 kW ) and torque from 487 to 502 lb-ft. A boost that also reduces the acceleration time from 0-60 mph to just 4.2 seconds.
  • 02 Improved responsiveness

Apart from increasing the car's power and torque, the performance software upgrade also changes the pedal mapping. As a result, the motors respond more quickly to the accelerator, elevating the driving experience even further.
  • 03 Launch control

For those moments when even extraordinary acceleration is deemed too ordinary, the performance software upgrade includes a launch control feature. It's activated by simultaneously depressing the accelerator and brake pedals, preloading a higher starting torque to provide maximum power right from a standstill. The result is a car that literally speeds up in the blink of an eye and extends its momentum over a longer period.
  • 04 Stay sustainable

The performance software upgrade does not affect Polestar 2's energy consumption. The OTA installation is an efficient way to deliver enhanced performance using fewer resources.

WOW! European brands EVs are charging OTA software enhancement features. (ie BMW, MB…)

I'd seen Polestar's teaser announcements over the last few days and hoped that it meant they were doing a substantial midcycle refresh. Oh well.

Polestar has already done their refresh for 2023 for the Polestar 2. I was invited to a Polestar Roadster event here in Dallas. Great looking car.

I'm a big fan of Polestar, and will be looking hard at their models 3 and 4 as they are introduced. Really like having native Google maps/nav with cloud integration.

I think the brand has a lot of potential. Being in Texas the Polestar 2 just didnt have the needed range for me as the spacing between fast chargers is significant in this area of the country. That will change in the next couple of year hopefully.

There is alot of Scandinavian design language I like about their brand. But they gotta make more range and space. I guess I’m spoiled by Lucid Air.

Polestar 3 is aiming for around 300 miles EPA range. Not outstanding but competitive in its segment.

Close, but no cigar.

I had a Polestar 2 rental last weekend from Hertz. Really enjoyed driving it - small(er than my Model S), quick (enough) and quite chuckable. Liked the interior, too, in a minimalist kind of way.

Too small and not enough range to be my main car, but I was impressed with the product.

There are enough other threads on Electrify America, but let me just say that it was the only mark against an otherwise great experience. Went to an EA station at a Wal Mart just to try it out, having never experienced CCS charging before. Two stalls occupied, two not working. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
