Lucid Gravity – A Refined Powerhouse That’s Only Getting Better

After several days behind the wheel, it’s clear the Lucid Gravity is more than just a beautiful SUV, it’s a true evolution of the Lucid experience.

The driving dynamics are exactly what everyone’s been raving about. It has serious power, and driving through some canyons yesterday, it handled the twists and bends with total confidence. For something this spacious, it feels incredibly nimble and grounded.

Just like the Air, DreamDrive Pro has become an everyday companion. While it’s still catching up to what I’ve experienced in the Air, it’s already very close, and Lucid’s OTA improvements give me no doubt it’ll surpass expectations soon. The capacitive steering wheel is a great upgrade, no longer requiring that extra torque to prove you’re paying attention. Lane change assist functions just like the Air, but now with added smarts. It even suggests lane changes when you’re stuck behind slower traffic and gracefully shifts within the lane when large vehicles crowd the line. These subtle touches show how much thought went into making the drive safer and smoother.

Then there’s UX 3.0 (well…3.2.0), and wow! This is where Lucid has clearly listened to its owners. The new user interface is a MASSIVE leap forward from the Air and it’s in a MUCH better position than where the Air was this early into deliveries. The touch gestures on the wheel make controlling key functions intuitive and fast. Being able to flick apps between the top and bottom screens is super handy, and the ability to run separate apps on each screen really takes multitasking to the next level, perfect for navigation up top while controlling media or climate below.

And speaking of media… the sound system? Omg! If you were impressed by the Air, the Gravity takes it to another stratosphere. Dolby Atmos tracks sound absolutely phenomenal, it’s not just listening to music, it’s experiencing it. The spatial clarity, depth, and immersive feel are truly amazing

On top of it all, the quietness of the cabin is something you immediately notice. Whether you’re cruising through city streets or highway stretches, the interior remains whisper-quiet, giving you a peaceful cocoon that lets the drive and the sound system truly shine.

Sure, there are some early model quirks, like the occasional false warning when entering the vehicle, but these are minor, and they don’t appear while driving. The HUD is limited but still provides useful information, consistent with what you see in other vehicles but it will evolve and be refined more over time. The key? It unlocks when approaching the car and locks when I walk away with the key in my pocket. The issue with third-party music apps has already been temporarily addressed with a quick profile switch but hopefully an OTA will come sooner rather than later to do a proper fix.

All in all, the Gravity is an impressive leap forward. It’s powerful, polished, and full of thoughtful upgrades that reflect real feedback from Lucid owners. It’s not just a great electric SUV, it’s a clear signal that Lucid is listening and learning. Being an early Air owner to now an extremely early Gravity owner I think Lucid has knocked it out the park. The issues experienced so far are minor quirks that don’t warrant the knives coming out at Lucid this early into its deliveries.

Last week, I was with a content creator filming an owner impressions / experience video which he’s currently editing and will drop on all the socials soon

Stay tuned!

Your experience with the Gravity is so utterly different from what we were shown in our owner delivery orientation yesterday that I'm beginning to conclude that our delivery advisor, a very friendly guy who really seemed to want to be helpful, had not been given any training whatsoever on the Gravity.

We were told facial recognition was not yet working to select driver profiles, that music could not yet be streamed via the native Tidal and Spotify apps in the car, and that no DDPro2 features were yet working beyond ACC and lane keep assist. The reason given was that the car still needed a new software upload that was pending -- even though our car already had 3.2.0 downloaded.

I have been watching YouTube videos of the software operation and already knew the delivery advisor was lacking some information. For instance, the videos said there were three hot buttons that could be programmed by the owner to operate desired functions: one on the right side of the squircle and the two outlying toggle switches on the lower screen. I was sitting in the backseat looking on as my partner was being taken through the orientation. I find changing drive modes while driving very cumbersome in our Air, so at one point I asked for confirmation that the hot button on the right side of the Gravity squircle was pre-programmed to change drive modes, something shown in several videos. He said it wasn't. I insisted he try, and the button did, in fact, change the drive modes. I then asked him how to reprogram the two outlying toggle switches to operate other most-used functions, something I had seen in videos. He said the left button was set to control seat heating (something we never use in south Florida) and the right button was set to open the glovebox. He had no idea that they could be reprogrammed or how to do it.

I am very relieved to see your detailed review of some of these things and look forward to getting more acquainted with our new Gravity DE as soon as possible . . . relying, I suppose, on YouTube videos, this forum, and slogging through the owners manual.

I wish you could do a demo or Lucid do a demo video of basics functionality to help new owners. Many issues I am reading about seems users related. Thanks for your post. I appreciate that you criticize but also appreciate the efforts being made by Lucid as well as taking time figure things. It's not easy to get hardware and software to work seamlessly even for something trivial as every car is different and differents variable need to be taken into consideration. I get the impression sometimes that people think Lucid can just copy and paste code from Air. Again, a big thank you for your review.

I was refraining from writing any kind of in depth review \ experience until a month or so in because I knew quirks would exist and wanted to give Lucid the chance to do some OTA refinements etc. But after yesterday's Reddit post that many seemed to pick up on and just assumed the owner wasn't a buffoon who didn't know how to use the vehicle properly I figured I'd do a "Well, this is my experience and it's not matching what they're selling"

The regulars in here know me well enough to know that I will call Lucid out when warranted but in this instance I think people are making mountains out of mole hills so EARLY into deliveries. I said multiple times in here that if people were expecting a flawless Gravity upon delivery even with the delays then they needed to reset their expectations. All EV's come with quirks and even more so, ALL new models come with quirks. If people can't handle that then they need to wait 12 months before jumping on the bandwagon.

HC_79,

I'm in line for a Gravity GT, DD Premium, and waiting for HUD in the tech package. Seems you may know more about actually using DD and the HUD than most Lucid SA. I have some questions if you don't mind.
1. What does DD Pro get you over Premium on 7/1/2025 and what is it promised to get you in the future.
2. Is the hardware the same between them. Can Premium be updated to Pro.
3. Is Pro vs Premium going to affect the HUD in any way?

I have talked to at least 4 sales people at 3 dealers and gotten conflicting answers on all questions.

The car will go a little funky if it's got no cell reception. When I was taking delivery in Torrance things weren't going as they should but it was the stuff that needed internet and there was no coverage on the car or any of our phones so once they connected the car to the stores wifi things went more smoothly.

My delivery advisor was also really nervous because like me coming from the Air it seems they've read documentation and seen videos but not had a decent amount of time to play with the UX in the car so we both learnt as we were going through the delivery. I wasn't annoyed by this because documents and videos only get you so far, once people gets hands on with stuff it becomes second nature so I'm sure in the coming weeks the process will be more refined as Delivery Advisors get used to the software in the cars.

Yes, the facial recognition is one of the things that I've just realized isn't working yet but it's not huge deal (for me at least) as the keys, keycards etc. can be assigned to the profile. I'm guessing your TiDAL and Spotify issues were happening because of the lack of internet. I don't use Spotify but can definitely confirm TiDAL, Sirius & TuneIn work with the native App. 3.2.0 DD Pro 2 works so the DA's need to get themselves up to speed on that. Here's proof of it working and this isn't even on a highway :)

DD Pro gives you Drive Assist which is the lane centering and eventually hands off, eyes on driving. Premium is just Adaptive Cruise Control where you still need to steer the car etc.

If it follows the same process as the Air then no, it's not updatable in the future because more hardware is actually installed for DD Pro like LiDAR, etc.

Shouldn't. HUD will still show you speed, navigation, etc.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for putting you on the spot asking about what DD Premium has when you have the Pro. The consensus (to me so far) is that Premium has what you're experiencing now except that it will never have hands off. Guess will have to wait for some GGT with DD Pre reviews.

In the picture is the HUD on? Curious what the shot would look like if the camera was focused on the road.
thanks

After reading the manual I have concluded that some HUD items are DD Pro only.

Might want to give it a glance for further details.

When I originally requested to have the car transported to Naples, my Sales Advisor said that I would miss out on the owner orientation unless I brought the car back to Miami after I had it wrapped. I asked him if our local Mobile Tech could instead do it, adding that I would pay for the orientation myself. He said that wouldn't work because Delivery Advisors were being given special training on the Gravity's operation, but Mobile Techs were not.

What instead appears to be the case is that the Delivery Advisors are just playing around with the software and trying to figure out for themselves what's different from the Air using whatever sources they can. Since ours was only the second Gravity they have seen in Miami, I guess there wasn't much time to bone up on it.

With so much riding on a smooth Gravity roll-out I'm a little surprised Lucid didn't conduct some carefully structured training for Delivery Advisors, perhaps through Zoom sessions or something similar.

This issue extended beyond software, too. When we opened the frunk, the first thing I did was raise the front edge of the seat insert to attach it to the hooks to form a barrier so that cargo doesn't spill out as I've seen in numerous videos. The advisor was alarmed and tried to stop me, saying it would prevent the frunk from closing and would damage the seat. I had to show him that it was designed to work that way.

At this point; you might have to train your delivery advisor haha 😂 😂 😆

No. Premium will not have lane centering, it’s just Adaptive Cruise Control. Maybe when Lucid releases hands free we may see an update to the Premium offering but for now, don’t count on lane centering coming to DD Premium.

Yes, but it never shows up properly in photos. That greenish part you see in the image is the HUD

I agree it would be nice for @HC_79 to do something like that, as he has really done his homework.

It might also be a good idea for Lucid to produce a video that walks owners through how to use all the software features. Their head of UX design has already done something similar, although more truncated, with a couple of YouTubers.

I know much of this will be in the Owner's Manual, but it's cumbersome to use, and visual demonstrations of the many and complex software features are easier for users to digest and retain.

@HC_79, have you tried using the new dynamic remaining range display yet? If so, how well do you think it works?

I have it permanently set. It’s hovering in the low 3’s but it’s by no means being treated in a way to get good efficiency at the moment if you know what I mean 😂

Also, if it’s like the Air, it’s probably not going to hit its peak efficiency until a couple of thousand miles in if memory serves me correct. I’m possibly doing a quick road trip next week so will see what numbers I get.

Ya, I read the manual. DreamDrive Pro is not mentioned once in the manual, only DD vs Premium.

The 'DreamDrive Component Locations' is clear as mud as to which version of DD has what, sounds like base has it all.

The only information on the HUD:

Head-Up Display
In equipped vehicles, the Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR HUD) displays timely information related to naviation, active safety, and more directly on the windshield as you drive, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road and drive with greater confidence. See Routing and DreamDrive Features for more information about the navigation and DreamDrive uses of the AR HUD.

WARNING: If the AR HUD feature becomes distracting or uncomfortable, disable the AR HUD.
WARNING: The AR HUD may not display clearly when wearing polarized sunglasses or in certain lighting conditions.
Access the AR HUD settings from the Pilot Panel by selecting Settings > Vehicle > Driving > Head-Up Display. You can toggle the feature on/off, increase/decrease brightness, and automatically/manually reposition the display. Additionally, adjustments to to the display position can be made by tapping the HUD button in Quick Controls on the Pilot Panel.

By default, the AR HUD feature is on.

Actually, it does look like you get more in the DD Pro 2 Premium. Here’s the breakdown from the website

Ya, looks to me like DD Premium is a software limited DD Pro. Somewhere heard that only the Pro has a driver facing camera that needs to see alert eyeballs to allow hands free, but I can't verify it. The manual mentions a 'front multifunctional camera'.
