Out of Spec 3 Row EV race - Lucid Gravity driven by Kyle

so if you add the 5 videos
Pt 1 Getting the EV's to Maine 2:44
Pt 2 Intros of drivers and cars 1:06
Pt 3 Pt 1 of race 3:17
Pt 4 Pt 2 of race 3:35
Pt 5 Finale 4:18

Thats 15 hours

If you were to watch the entire LOTR trilogy extended directors cut you'd spend 12 hours

I mean it depends on what kind of nerd you are I guess
I don't mind some of the longer form content he puts out because I do think he has good insight and I listen on 1.5-2x but this is just absurd. Not watching one second of these.

Fire the editor. Sheesh.

Anywhooo.....loving my Gravity!

Pretty sure there will another video to go through all the data.

I am personally watching these videos a bit at a time for the entertainment value plus you can learn a thing or two without having to endure the crazy hours these guys put in.

I also run a group so I gotta stay ahead to maintain some credibility :-)

"depends on what kind of nerd you are"
Great line hahaha - both is the best

I am gonna put up a post race debrief video soon... and add some extra insight.

shame they restricted you to Tesla chargers

It’s sad how everyone hates on our long videos. Plenty of other creators to watch, you don’t need to watch us! We have an audience that loves this stuff and it’s the only reasonable financial way we can pull off these races

Sorter recap videos to come

• Gravity runs with a towel over the driver monitoring unit, lol. Makes the car use capacitive steering instead.
Since DD2Pro doesn't have hands-free yet, I believe all of the enablement is done via the capacitive wheel. The driver monitoring camera seems only for the "pay attention" nags currently.

not hating- maybe some harsh teasing ;)
to each their and while I don't watch the whole video I do watch about half it while I skip around a bit

He must not have known how to disable the nag alerts. First thing I did when I took delivery of my Gravity.

All good sir! Watched every minute of them all. Very entertaining and informative. Thanks to all your folks for doing this!

💯 I love this stuff! (Although I did watch it at 1.5X-1.75X, stopping and going back for certain moments.)

This race was a really great way to see how these different EVs, and the charging infrastructure, work under pressure in the real world. It may be alot of time for a potential purchaser to watch, but think about how many thousands of hours you're going to spend in the vehicle you buy: It's a small investment for your future vehicle contentment.

For how great the Tesla SC system is, for instance, it was enlightening to see all the charge speed limits, outright stall failures, and even site shutdowns while charging it incurred.

And for all the valid complaints about the Gravitys' UI software, it was the charging system (hardware/software we don't know yet) that was the biggest hurdle and impact on the race that shouldn't have been as close as it was.

No, that was actually a great thing to see. This wasn't a race of different teams; it was a race of different vehicles. Having two identical vehicles in the race wouldn't be very enlightening to auto enthusiasts or prospective purchasers.

What we got to see was how much charging speed and charger reliability matter. And, surprisingly to me at least, we got to see how cycles of high speed (>250kW) charging take their toll on not just the chargers, but also on the vehicle. The SC Gravity did not suffer the same vehicle limits (overheating maybe) that the any-charger Gravity suffered - and almost lost because of it.

It was also great to see how each team optimized their charge plans around their vehicles capabilities and limitations. Escalade getting an advantage in bad conditions since their efficiency was as impacted, and then trying to do deeper charges to save time by not having as many stops. Model X team optimizing their charger arrival SOC to take advantage of the limited charging curve. SC Gravity team was lucky to have Tom and his detailed data to optimize for Tesla charging, versus Kyle's team shooting for 400kW charging as much as they could. Rivian using the battery temp display in the vehicle to better precondition, etc.

I think a retrospective on their decisions would be a great video to watch. Teams learning when to leave a charger because the charging rate is tapering versus staying longer to save the in/out time of a charging stop. When to swap stalls. When to make it rain (inside joke, if you haven't watch the video). There were some moves (I don't remember exactly, but one team left to try to get a 50kW faster rate at another station but I suspect they lost more time doing the move than they gained with the small extra speed (and which wasn't guaranteed), for instance.

I watched every minute and 1.5hr in for the last bit. I am local to Cyp in NY if you want another City Gravity added to the mix, mine has the upgraded 22” wheel and tire package and full laser jamming and detector ability.

If they want to do one in the warm summer temps up and down I-65, from the top of IL to the Gulf Shores of AL (or in reverse) that'd be a great one to go and I'd put mine up for that run!

I thought about this. I don’t think one’s typical car insurance would cover any issues if one participated in an event like this. It’s highly abnormal to participate in a semi-business event with others behind the wheel driving straight through, etc. Once posted to social media, if I were the insurer, I’d say no way to any claim…

What was the total elapsed time (from start to finish, including drive time and charge time) for Kyle's winning Gravity?

based on one of the drivers' socials, I think it was around 20-21 hours.

I don't think that's correct. The route was 2,065 miles, plus charging time. I think it is over 30-35 hours. I

In case you're interested, here's William of the Model X's team describing their strategy, which worked well for them:

I watched all of them from start to end at 2.5x speed.
