Out of Spec 3 Row EV race - Lucid Gravity driven by Kyle

yeah, that probably cost 3 minutes on the second gravity to change batteries.
I'm not sure if NotchEV was aware the same batteries are in the sunvisor. At least he has some keycards.

I saw someone complaining online that this video seems to spend much more time on the Gravity than on some of the other cars... and that the video seemed like an advertisement for Lucid. However in reality there is more time spent on the Gravities because the Gravities have more drama (key fobs, reversing cameras etc).
I realized about the sun visors about a week after that race! But I do keep a spare battery for the FOB still. the visor is a good backup - also so strange hahah.

During the race though, my center console key car reader was broken (now fully replaced) so if the Fob didn't work the car didn't move. So I treated that Fob like it was solid gold.

Like you are said though, it wasn't a huge set back, I had it ready, ripped open the package and got it replaced.. My teammates where were less familiar with the car were a lot more distraught, the unknown of it caused higher tensions in them hahah. At this point in the race, every other car had worse time setback than us IMO... with full chargers, non peak speeds, blown up chargers hahah.

that's funny that people think too much time on Gravity... obviously Kyle is the man in charge, and he records a ton, but the Model X has twice as many charge stops, so I feel like they get a ton of screen time. Maybe the fact that the only car there is 2 of is the Gravity, makes it feel like its on screen more.... also flip flopping in 1st place gains attention.

Not to mention they had two of them.

Hmmm. Or… maybe it’s just because there are two Gravities in the race?

I would say the Model X got a ton of air time because of their charge curve problems. Also, Kyle notes in his youtube post comments that he included all the footage taken inside the cars. So it’s probably just that those other cars didn’t film as much and so weren’t as represented.

Great tip if I need an emergency Keyfob battery. Thanks!

The Rivian team stops in northern VA (Franconia) to charging stalls mostly full ... at 1:00 a.m.
They ask, "why is this such a busy charger at 1am"?

Probably so they don't run out of energy while sitting in traffic at 7am.

That was weird tho. That was the Springfield exit at 1:00 am on a Friday. I lived in that area for a decade....I've been to the chargers up there. Not sure what was going on at the charger at that time of night, but the fireworks shenanigans seemed par for the course!

One crazy thing was at the 1 hour 10 minute mark or thereabouts one team sees that the "NACS" charger support on one of the chargers is actually a NACS adapter screwed onto a CCS1 Combo cable, and that the adapter limits the charge rate.
Then, at 1:21:00, the Escalade team switches from the CCS combo side to the "NACS" side, putting their CCS1 adapter on the NACS adapter!
But, they got over 360KW, so maybe it wasn't actually adapter limited? And the Escalade team discusses that, too.

The Nav issue where it wanted to get them off the highway and take a side road with traffic lights with no traffic on the highway was crazy bad. Good thing they didn't listen to it.

And yet that happens a lot to us with Lucid Navigation. In our Air, on longer trips it will often choose to bizarrely leave the highway to go a few miles and then reenter. Without any actual traffic on the highway. Our Gravity is similar - we went to Oakland last week and it said to stay on 92E (which is local roads with tons of lights) to get to 580 instead of taking 880N which was wide open and about 6-7 minutes faster. It was pretty annoying.

‘Here’ still has weird quirks in their route planning and should not be trusted when it recommends this specifically.

Lucid's HERE-based maps and navigation are quite useless. They often give circuitous routes and/or missed the destination all together. The responses are slow. If you are driving long stretches of Interstate (e.g., I-10, I-5, etc.), it can keep you on track. But I don't trust it for local roads or even state Hwys.

I've brought these concerns directly to the Lucid folks who work on their maps and navigation. I think Lucid is wasting a lot of resources on this stuff that really don't generate any benefits. Rather, it generates frustration.

In the Air, you can now use Android Auto and CarPlay. I don't think it is available on the Gravity yet.

Totally agree with you. They should contract with Google Maps and make it their native navigation.

I can use CarPlay but I really dislike CarPlay on many levels. Plus it’s restricted to the tiny area they give it up top, whereas the native Nav gets both screens. I’m hoping they fix something with the routing.

One thing that is accurate is the charge on arrival - it’s very accurate in relaying this. But I suspect that is something the car is really good at, and has little to do with the navigation.

And yet, at the 52:40 mark, Kyle says "Lucid absolutely nailed this route planner".
More praise of the mapping/nav system through the 53:14 mark.

Just saying ...

I don't know what Kyle's route was. As I said, if you are navigating on major interstates, it might work OK. Once you get off the major interstates, the HERE maps/navigation (on my Lucid Air) is unreliable and slow.

At the time what I thought he meant by route planning was primarily the charging planning, which in itself was primarily based on the accuracy of the battery usage prediction. He mentioned multiple times that the estimator got it right for them... when it predicts 4% they drive and arrive at 3% consistently.

That kind of usage is by no means a validation of the HERE-map based navigation on the Lucid.

Clearly YMMV.

The HERE maps/navigation on my Gravity has worked fine away from major interstates.
Even when I've misunderstood the navigation, the rerouting has gotten me back on course.
A valid and reliable system for me.

Hope things get better for you.

It’s like telling an iOS person to switch to Android or vice versa. They’ll argue to the death of why their product is better and never see anything positive about the other.

Perhaps posters in this thread can clarify their experience by including which areas of the US they are trying to utilize the HERE system..
