Out of Spec 3 Row EV race - Lucid Gravity driven by Kyle

Remember, these guys are racing, so they’re going to make different choices than people on vacation or a business trip.

And between the two Geavitys especially, a few minutes of charging may be all that separates them at the finish line.
If it takes 4 mins longer to get plugged in, and 4 mins to get back to highway the Gravity that gets to charge at 400kw compared to SC Gravity it then equaled out... and you see in the first episode how many mins it took to go through that parking lot at Kittery.... and then have to get plugged in.. you are right the minutes are very important... also like you said, nobody would drive like this on a vacation, hahah, the looming threats of other racers on your tail while you charge up really adds to the frenzy and chaos!
 
Assumes a 400 kW charger, arriving at <5%, plus either 5 or 10 minutes off the highway:

So somewhere between 12 and 20 minutes charging depending how accessible and reliability the chargers are. Slower chargers would increase the optimum slightly.

Oh yeah, they're trying to squeeze every second out so I wouldn't expect them to charge to 80-85% for the same safety buffer someone on vacation would. They're obviously going to sacrifice some peace-of-mind safety buffer to try and maximize time. I just meant that they tend to go too far in the other direction -- get so focused on chasing that peak kW that they tend to undercount the churn time it takes just to make extra DCFC stops. And assume the sessions are going to be more perfect than they often end up being. Ya never know what kind of DCFC experience you're gonna get at the next station. The best DCFC session is the one you don't even have to do.
 
because of what was said in some other videos from OOS previously, don't we already know that at some point the BMS on both Gravity's will start to "lie" because they didn't have enough time to sit idle and recalibrate? I'm assuming that's going to get one if not both of the cars in trouble for the race. Kyle's Gravity is most at risk because he likes to run the pack right to the edge. or maybe it'll just take them into the buffer and it won't matter. :)

I absolutely think like this when I’m not using Superchargers. On Superchargers I basically never do. I have only had a couple poor supercharger experiences out of maybe 50k miles, and in hindsight those were nearly all avoidable.

That was curious (and a bit disconcerting). Kyle was careful to share that info with both Gravity teams so they'll probably be careful to avoid it (as long as Dave isn't driving one of them 😁). But it's a bit concerning for regular owners that don't know that.

Although I think he said after ~3 consecutive DCFCs with no long break. In the Gravity that's 1000+ miles. Not that many people are gonna be driving 1000+ miles continuously. Our comfortable max for a day is in the 600-800 mile range.

I thought they discovered that fact about the pack charge remaining errors (up to 9% off?) during the race, no? That took place a while ago. I'm not sure Lucid warned them about the DCFC calibrating issue in advance (or even knew it would happen).

yeah, I agree, the average consumer isn't going to see that at all. :)

Kyle mentioned it early in episode 1 of this race (as well as a few other videos), as being what his Lucid contacts told him pre-race. I think he mentioned it in episode 0 (the race introduction) too.
 
Kyle is saying the Gravity he is in was shipped with larger wheels than are actually on the car during the race. The route planner is calculating based on the larger wheels.

WTH!

Oh, and why are the Chargers letting the Cowboys stay in the game. 😊
I ran into this when I swapped out my wheels as well, the 22–23"s → 20–21"s. The TPMS picks up the psi just fine, but all of its range calculations and estimates are off and they took away the ability in the car to toggle the tire size setting yourself. It required the mobile tech to talk directly w/ the engineering team and they pushed out a custom version of the firmware (this was 3.3.9) to get it to update properly.

Presumably the car is set accordingly, showing lower dynamic range and efficiency. As long as they go by that, should be ok. It's just if they're expecting 450 and using that in calculations that they'd be off.

seems like they are accounting for this now that they've realized it. Kyle was noting how the estimated % SOC on arrival kept becoming less negative as they approached the destination. But it could trip them up later if they get tired and forget this or something.

at the end they just made it into South Carolina. The main lucid gravity is in first, the X is in third followed by the Escalade. I think the other lucid gravity (restricted to Tesla supercharging) is in second.

Unless something goes wrong this things will end after another episode or two with:

* Gravity wins.
* The second gravity proves that the gravity charges at Tesla supercharges faster than a Tesla (which is one claim we hear by lucid sales)

yeah, that probably cost 3 minutes on the second gravity to change batteries.
I'm not sure if NotchEV was aware the same batteries are in the sunvisor. At least he has some keycards.

I saw someone complaining online that this video seems to spend much more time on the Gravity than on some of the other cars... and that the video seemed like an advertisement for Lucid. However in reality there is more time spent on the Gravities because the Gravities have more drama (key fobs, reversing cameras etc).
