here we go.
situation: yes i read up on past threads
and i'm looking for Nov/Dec 2025 opinions. 19"OEMS have about 30K miles and are down to 3/32 with winter coming up in New England. I live in Southern NH and most drive this car south towards boston. southwest towards CT and local.. so expect typical new england winters. I also put on roughly 18K a year, so ~1500 miles a month. Winter months being what they are, mid nov to mid apr, thats 5 months, so i expect 7.5k miles per winter, so should last 3-4 winters. at which point, maybe i'm ready to move on from my current 2023 Air Touring.
task: find a new set of tires.. I'm considering winter/summer, winter/all-season combo, and still in the back of mind just going with all-seasons.
Winter options Nokian Hakka R5 EV (~1600 installed) and Michelin X-Ice (~1400 installed). Online reviews generally rank them 1 and 2 but some mention that the michelins may have slightly better performance on dry roads leading to longer tread life. Are the Nokian's ~200 better? over 3-4 winters, cost difference is negligible, but will the nokian's last 30K miles?
Summer options - Michelin PS 4 or PS 5. Current pricing is pretty favorable on PS4 ~900 on TR. . Should I pre-buy it now and store it for use in 5 months? I see a PS5 on costco, but not sure i want to buy those and argue with costco on installing them.
All seasons: OEMs are ~2k installed or ~1600 on TR. Michelin PS4 AS are about ~1100 on TR or ~1300 installed locally. The local tire shop is also pushing me to consider the Cross Climate 2 for ~1400 installed
What does the forum think? go winter/summer, winter/all-season, or just do the all-seasons year round and which tires?. I don't take this car up north much into the mountains, so thats not a factor.
