It is kind of ridiculous, but your gripe is really HERE maps. The Lucid Air uses HERE Maps as its mapping data provider, so weird directions are almost always a HERE data issue rather than a car issue.

Yup. HERE routing is a joke. I don't understand how so many automakers keep choosing it.

Hopefully we'll won't see those jokes anymore being on Google database since 2.9.0. If ever the "caculator" side of HERE screw up again it will just prove how bad that nav system is. My first test was to type Lucid Montreal and it doesn't offer me a route to Hollywood CA or other places on the west coast like it used to be, instead it offers me the Studio right on the the "good" address before I end typing. Huge difference for a quick simple task.

I've seen the same thing with Waze, and also with the built-in nav on the cars several other manufacturers (including a Ford I rented the other day). It is puzzling to me how this happens.

I’ve noticed that the Amazon Shopping app uses HERE as their background mapping when the delivery driver is “10 stops away.” More ubiquitous than I thought.

Does anyone have any experience with what actual navigation the drivers are using? Because I thought the same thing with some silly routes like the OP has mentioned that HERE has planned for me. Surely they can’t be using it, right?

I suspect that means they are the lowest cost offering. I had saved that page for later. It says you can submit changes to them. My local YMCA is listed as a church.

Yeah I’ve submitted edits there, too. Some stick but most don’t. Notably our local Ralph’s is labeled as the elementary school .

The Google places data doesn't stop the routing decisions of the HERE API from being stupid . It's get you to the right address (in theory ), but it's going to take you there in the stupidest possible way.

It’s been discussed numerous times why HERE is chosen by many automakers. It’s got nothing to do with what you see but more what goes on behind the scenes, especially for ADAS & autonomous driving.

Agreed. HERE is optimized for ADAS, which is why so many automakers use it. Even Tesla does not use Google Maps to power FSD (uses Mapbox). So people need to stop screaming for Lucid to switch to Google Maps. If you want advanced ADAS improvements, we are going to need to deal with occasional HERE routing glitches. At least Lucid is now using Google for POI info, which should be a noticeable improvement.

I have zero interest in ADAS, I just want the route to not be stupid. And is ADAS really going to be useful if it automatically keeps taking you the long way, or attempting to make impossible turns?

I'd settle for a separate native Google maps or Waze app that can use both screens, and folks who want ADAS can keep using HERE.

The problem you are very much in the minority. ADAS is coming hard and all automakers are working overtime to keep up. This is the future you need to accept or crawl back in your cave.

Did you miss the part where I said you can keep your horrible HERE routing, just give me (and other people who actually like to drive) an option that let's us use both screens with routing that doesn't suck?

Sorry, did not mean to get pissy. I guess your only option is to use Google Maps via CarPlay/AA. Only problem is that due to Apple constraints, CarPlay is locked to upper screen. Currently, Lucid is facing so many other software challenges right now, I do not see them spending much time on changing this. Right now, keeping up with Tesla and Rivian (and their superior ADAS systems) is a MAJOR priority for Lucid and key to its survival.

Sure, but at least against Tesla, catching/keeping up would involve a lot more app options that can be installed and used.

I think Lucid made a mistake in designing a multi-screen layout plus a customized Android Automotive platform without assigning the appropriate SW development resources to keep up with the added workload required to release and support multiple apps in such a custom environment, not to mention they would have known AA/CarPlay would be so severely limited on that screen layout. It's not like the restriction wasn't known when they were designing these vehicles, especially the Gravity.

Nav aside, I also want a native YouTube Music app and PlexAmp app. My wife would love a native Pandora or Apple Music app.

Not to mention additional things like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, and various games.

Do they just use HERE for maps or is there a separate system involved with routing?
My previous BMW iX had a similar weird behavior where it does not understand it can turn down certain roads and would reroute in weird directions.

You'd need to look "lesser" cars from half a dozen brand like Volvo, GM, etc. They have an app store which includes these native apps as well as Google maps and Waze.

BTW both Porsche and Mercedes are moving away from HERE and to an app store model, with native Google maps. Both of their parent companies, among other European automakers, are part owners of HERE.
