Just push the stalk up or down into the center (N) position, between (R) and (D), and hold it there until the car goes into neutral. The "trick" is to hold it into the neutral position for a second or two. Do not press the stalk inward.
Yes, you just have to hold the gear stalk in a position as if switching into drive or reverse for a few seconds without flipping it past the resistance point to get it into neutral. Make sense?
