No errors, but reduced regen and acceleration

At the end of about an hour drive at 65-70 or so today, I noticed my regen was greatly reduced, and then as I approached my house it seemed like acceleration was reduced. Zero errors on the screens. I almost thought I had a low / flat tire the way it was driving but tires are fine. When I parked in the garage, the fans were running full blast loud, and I heard like a high pitched whine from the front right. I'll check with service tomorrow but I had just updated to software 2.10.0 and remember there was some drive train fault robustness added. Likely just a coincidence. I thought I would post here in case anyone has any ideas. I am going to go check the regen setting to see if somehow it turned itself off at the end of the hour drive but that does not seem likely.
 
Please keep us up to date, that's concerning. If support isn't overwhelmed, maybe they can pull the logs and see what's going on?

When did the fans stop?
 
They stopped after I walked away.... then 20 mins later I woke it up again, checked the regen setting (which had not changed) exited, and the fans were running like crazy until the car locked and shut itself down. I did not hear the high pitched whine fromn the front right, which is a new sound to me. I'll see if they can pull the logs tomorrow.
 
My car was doing weird things (right) but not throwing codes. I was told it was defective water pumps that just hadn’t caused a full failure yet.

Was the ac on?
 
Yes it was.
Today the vehicle seems to be back to normal. Maybe it just needed a good night's rest after its big drive on the freeway. :)

Or possibly just cooling things down
 
Yes, but... I do this same drive all the time and it was an hour in 85 degree heat so definitely not pushing to extremes. I have noticed the fan running a lot more since the latest software update and am wondering if the update changed the fan / cooling behavior somehow.

Have you verified that the louvres are opening up in the front? They can get stuck and cause an overheat.
 
I was today years old when I found out there are louvers that open. Chat GPT told me where they are. Have you checked yours? Here's how GPT told me to check mine, does this sound accurate?

How To Test The Louvers​


  1. Park the car, leave it awake, and set the climate control to LO with the fan at maximum.
  2. Crouch several feet in front of the car and shine a flashlight into the wide lower intake.
  3. Within several seconds, the four shutter panels—two stacked on each side—should rotate open, exposing the heat exchangers behind them. This is the test a Lucid technician reportedly demonstrated to an owner.
  4. Use your iPhone to record the lower intake before and after turning the A/C on. That makes subtle movement much easier to confirm.

You are looking for:


  • Both left and right banks moving.
  • Smooth, coordinated movement.
  • A clearly more open path through which you can see the radiator/heat-exchanger fins.
  • No repeated clicking, knocking, or one side remaining closed.

I havent had that particular issue, no. Sometimes there's a clicking under the car but idk what it is.
 
Louvers are opening and closing just fine... super cool watching them do that. (OK, not gonna cancel Netflix but I was watching them open and close for a good 10 mins)

@socktucker for the win.... there's a service bulletin out on the water pumps for the 2026 Airs made middle of last year, and mine falls into that group. Rocklin was able to pull the error log so now not only is it in the body shop, but they are also going to fix the pumps. It happened a second time on the exact same drive, coasted into my garage. Hope this helps someone else.
 
It's disappointing you had to figure this out on your own. I also had my pumps replaced as part of that service bulletin, but i was proactively contacted by Lucid before there was ever a problem. I guess that's yet another part of service that has suffered from cuts.
 
I had a missed call from Lucid Roadside assistance earlier in the week but they did not leave a mesage. I would like to think that was them, and wonder why they didn't leave one or send an email. I could have been stranded on a freeway. I did tell my friend with an Air to proactively call and ask them to pull the logs.
