Lucid Air
New Lucid owner here, coming from 2 Teslas. One is a 2023 Model 3 SR, the other is a 2023 Model Y Performance.

I've seen a lot of, idk, hyperbolic descriptions of Lucid bugs being terrible, so I figured I will contribute my Tesla bugs over the two years of ownership for people to compare.

Model 3 SR:
1. Doors misalligned, some software issues. This was a demo model so I'm sure it had other issues that were corrected. I think its a good car especially for the price. The SR actually has the LR battery in it, but Tesla restricts it with software unless you pay for the "long range" one. Whatever.

Model Y Performance: this one I bought BRAND NEW from the factory and what they did to fix it or if it was in spec

1. Water sprays through the windows in auto car washes "within spec"
2. The lower door seals let dirt and water in, but is "in spec"
3. Doors are crooked (fixed)
4. Tesla has uneven weather strips on each side of the car, window sits in on one but not the other "within spec"
5. The carbon fiber wing started to develop spots, but then it just fell off and was attached by a plastic rivet. This was repaired by Tesla but they damaged the paint in the process and used too much adhesive now there's a gap "within spec"
6. There is an obvious clear coat run down the passenger door, like a blob "within spec"
7. They did not paint the inside of the fender hinge area and door hinges, you open the door and see blue spray all over white on both sides. Some have this, some don't. Looks terrible "within spec"
8. LED strip burnt out in a headlight, $1400 fix covered by warranty
9. After 2 years the battery is already down 20%
10. both the visors rattle. they smear anti rattle grease on the hinges but it doesn't work very good "within spec"
11. The brake pedal RATTLES all the time, its a known issue where they used a detent pin that rattles in it. But-they are only required to fix it in EUROPE so they won't fix it here. You have to get in there and grease it yourself. "within spec"
12. They said they enabled headlight tracking for curves, but, some have it, some don't
13. FSD supervised did an update and now it takes the wrong onramp to my office, and is programmed to go 60mph in a 30mph road for some reason. It has wigged out in intersections that used to be 2-way but are now 1-way. This changed years ago, but Tesla is using old maps, so it just goes out to the intersection then starts jerking left and right then shuts off. I live in a metro area.
14. Tesla auto park tried to park my car in the shopping cart return at Target. "NOT within spec"
15. since last update, connectivity is broken every day. every. single. day. It resets my podcast progress, doesn't track Apple Music right either. Wifi handoff quit working.
16. Tesla's itteration of Apple Music is not complete. It does not have all of your collection, just most of it. Some albums you can only find by searching for it, but cannot add them, and albums are missing fromi the artist profile. I don't know why. You can add them in Apple Music on you phone, then they will appear in the Tesla version.
17. They did a FORCED software update that changes your assistant/assignable button to "GROK Ai". They also removed the ability to assign the button back. You are forced to have Elon Musks "GrokAI" in your car. It cannot be disabled. It defaults to a "sexy/sassy female" who will argue with you if you ask how to turn it off. It's snarky and annoying and forced on you.

All said, I still don't like Apple CarPlay and I think Tesla's is better even though it misses a lot of things.
Tesla's charging network is great!
Tesla's navigation system is vastly superior. The Lucid one reminds me of my old Range Rover.
Tesla's service was fine, honestly I like the guys at the service center
Tesla's Autopilot is great, but FSD is dangerous and basically non-function in the city I live in, which is a capital city with 300k people in it. No excuse for that-its also both cars, so that means its a Tesla issue not just my car.

Lucid and Range Rover both use HERE maps.

Oh and the screen would get stuck or just not work. Car was fully functional except it had no cameras working or screen. Had to reset every 3-4 months. The mobile key wasn’t any better than Lucid either, at least with iPhones. Always had to carry a card because it would lock me out every now and then.

I have the feeling this is common among bluetooth phone-as-a-key cars.
It's one reason why the newest cars use UWB instead - much shorter range and designed from the start as PAAK rather than making do.

That makes sense especially trying to navigate the mess of android hardware

I had a 2019. I tried to love it, it was my first electric. I hated it. Got rid of it after 18 months and 30k miles. The phone as key was unreliable, the fit and finish felt so cheap, I hated the lack of CarPlay, the black interior was always dirty with white scuffs (not sure how else to describe it), the road noise was so loud I couldn’t hear my daughter who sat in the backseat, the phantom braking was incredibly dangerous and made that $6k update unusable. My husband hated it so much he refused to even ride in it much less drive it.

I get that there are bugs and hiccups in the lucids but they are amazing cars that constantly improve. The majority of my issues with the Tesla were not software so were never going to improve. Recently rode in my neighbors brand new model S and felt like nothing had improved in 6 years.

I guess everyone has different priorities but for me…lucid is a no brainer. I love my AGT so much I got one of the first 8 GGTs delivered in AZ💗

Hyperbolic? I don’t think so bud. I honestly think your Tesla experience was an outlier. Most of us came from Tesla and to be honest its was pretty mundane existence…everything worked like it should. My hypothesis is the factor with the greatest influence on the UX experience is solo driver vs shared profiles and FOB vs phone key users. Plus you have the personal tolerance for what the basic process of unlocking the car in a rain storm should be like.

As a 2018 Model X owner (since new) I can assure you that my Tesla experience has had ups and downs. Often when I approach the car from behind and try to open the hatch, I have to fimble in my pocket to get my phone out of the way before the car will wake up and let me open it.

When I am in a rainstorm, I get my fob out and press to open the doors either before I leave cover, or as I am running to the car.

Plan ahead. Don't assume any radio is always going to work.

We all have different experiences. Please do not tell other people that their lived experience is wrong.

I hear what you’re saying, but I’d like others to accept my “I don’t think so bud, I honestly think your Lucid experience was an outlier” response and I don’t see that happening either.

I have had plenty of similar issues in Teslas.

When did I debate or invalidate their "lived experience", I simply said the described experience is different than the vast majority of Tesla owners. All cars have issues, but on a per capita basis, Lucid suffers FAR more incidences of quirks we hear so much about here and I even offered a hypothesis for some of the root causes for the different Lucid experiences. Hopefully this new update adds the robustness we need to move past these issues.

You cannot speak for the "vast majority" of Tesla owners. I was also very active on the Tesla forum during the rollout of the Model X and Model 3. I got my Model X in March 2018, built just after they upgraded the infotainment computer.

There were just as many issues with Tesla at their 2nd and 3rd models as Lucid has experienced. Drive units, batteries, half shafts, Falcon Wing Door problems.

I didn't have the worst problems, though I think if I had pushed it harder I expect my front half shafts would have needed replacement. My passenger FWD wouldn't close reliability. Tesla did fix most things...but certainly not all.

When you open a reply like you did:

You are saying, "You're wrong," in a very forceful manner.

Eh when people throw in some denigrating term like “bud”, I just stop reading.

Funny to note that I also said I think our Model 3 is the best car you can get under 30k. It’s a great car. 🤷

I’ve only had the Lucid a week and haven’t had any of the problems I’ve seen here except the awful subwoofer rattle-which I will solve even if it kills me!!

I’ve noticed occasionally it says “right turn signal fault, contact customer service” but then it goes away. I figure this is like the Tesla issue where it says “camera unavailable” due to direct sunlight or a weird shadow.

Hm, the right turn signal doesn’t usually do that; this will happen with the front facing camera, just like the Tesla, if it’s parked too long in direct sunlight.

The right turn signal, if it keeps happening, you should have service check out.

I do not and did not own a Tesla, but having driven and ridden in it, Lucid Air is totally on another level in handling and ride quality.

Would be interesting to do a blind fold test to see which car people would prefer to ride, but we know the answer.

Tesla is the Jeep of EVs there’s just no talking to their fan base 😂
