New Bugs Since 3.5.1

Tesla has learned that lesson the hard way too. They are now in their 4th hardware generation and possibly about to launch the 5th one.

Hardware is expensive, so it's not surprising all those companies try to go as cheap as manageable.

I think any premium auto manufacturer will put the most powerful and capable processor available for automotive use in the car at the time of development. But, like a phone or a computer, improvements in processing power and available memory improves exponentially every year (or week, or month.). Adding new features or customizing existing features only exacerbates the problem. ICE cars controlled with firmware are being replaced with customizable software on EVs - we're just entering a whole new world and it will take decades to find any sort of equilibrium...

Maybe HW upgrades like CCV2 will become more comonplace. But, the manufacturer doesn't sell a car that way, just a $1,000 part.

Just opining... YMMV.

Ya mean you can't run Quickbooks on a 286?? 😂

Lately when I get in the car it occasionally has the the trunk or trunk pop open. I wonder if this is a mechanical issue due to the fob in my pocket having the buttons activated but I don’t wear pants that are excessively tight. Maybe the car is just like my dog and is really excited to see me when I show up. It’s mystery.

Today, the left blind spot camera feed got stuck on, despite of which turn signal I used, left, right or off. The video feed was normal and very fast, but it would just never turn off. And the right blind spot camera would never come up because of that.

And, yet another reboot.

If a fully spec'd car was already hitting CPU limits, before even half of their advertised features were deployed and activated, that is a massive failure in their development processes and hardware/software architecture decisions for the Gravity.

They'd better not make the same mistakes for Cosmos/Earth, or it will definitely be the final nail in Lucid's coffin.

For all the shortcomings of Tesla, they have absolutely set the consumer's expectations that the processing power and memory in day 1 cars should have sufficient headroom to handle years of upgrades and additional features.

Current gen Tesla hardware has a little more compute power compared to the Gravity.

Comos/midsize will more than double Gravity's by moving to current gen Nvidia Drive hardware. This is also why L4 ADAS was on the Cosmos/midsize roadmap during the investor day presentation but wasn't on Gravity's. But raw computing power is meaningless if the software you develop is absolute garbage.

Is there a chance that the gravity will get that compute power as well in 2027er model for example?"

Very doubtful. Lucid has already switched Gravity production to 2027 and there's no indication that the computer has been upgraded.

No carmaker wants to do piecemeal updates unless they absolutely have to.

Well, I should have knocked on wood or something because I got a new bug but I think I also solved it and it's sadly funny.

Went out yesterday and as soon as I started the Gravity I got the drive system warning again I had a while back. Went out and did my errands and the error came up every time I got back in the car. While out I also tried to use the windshield washer but I ran out of fluid (the reservoir is amazingly small for a car this size too!). I was also out at home so I ran over and got some earlier today. Drive warning was present on that drive too. Filled the fluid, went out again and now the message is gone.

Interestingly the last time I ran low on fluid I think was back in February around the same time I had the warning last and when it went in for service. They weren't able to find any reason for the error and it just went away then.

I know Lucid told me (and others) that the yellow drive system warning icon is a generic "check engine" type light and now I'm wondering if low washer fluid doesn't have any kind of specific warning and stupidly triggers the drive warning. I'll have to wait until I run low/out of fluid again to test to see if I can replicate it though. So, if true, it's a little funny but also pretty sad that that might be it. Going to be doing a fair bit of driving today and tomorrow so I'll have to see if the error comes back at all.

(And yes, I'm going to submit this all to the Lucid bug email just in case)
Received “Drive System…” error yesterday. Error message still persists. On day before yesterday, I noticed that my Windshield Wiper Fluid barely flowed; was almost bone dry!
I’ll refill reservoir today and report back on whether error self-resolves.

Ok...

A few days after 3.5.1 was released, I posted in the 3.5.1 thread noting that nearly all of my persistent bugs were resolved but that my formerly nearly perfectly functioning key became inconsistent. After about 2 months of 3.5.1, I am seeing some new bugs. These new bugs have only started happening in the last ~3 weeks. The first month or so of 3.5.1 was nearly flawless for me (other than the key issues, which continue to greatly annoy me).
1) Front passenger window loses it position state. Three times the window has not gone up all the way. The first time, it was stuck all the way down and would not move at all. I rebooted the car and still nothing. Happily I was at home and could take the other car, so that is what I did. When I returned home, I was able to get the window up. The second time, it stopped about 2/3 up the way up and then went back down, like it thought it was hitting something. The window would stop and then go back down whether I had the door open or closed. I did the window position recalibration thing and then it worked. The third time, it stopped about 1" short of fully closed. I tried the window recalibration procedure, but that didn't work the first time. Or the second time. Or the third time. On the fourth time, I was able to get the window to go all the way up.

2) One time, the vehicle would not shift out of park. It recognized the key, just would not shift. Period. I waited about 30 second and still couldn't shift. I rebooted it and then it shifted no problem. I haven't had the problem since but I should never have had the issue.

3) The key situation. I miss my perfectly functioning key fob. I didn't have battery drain issue and it just worked. Since 3.5.1, it has been a hot mess. Yes, I verified the firmware version, changed batteries, made sure the battery was clean, etc. I have proximity lock/unlock turned on (yes, I know I should turn it off but it worked perfectly before 3.5.1) and it unlocks maybe 50% of the time. Sometimes when I get into the Gravity after the vehicle recognizes the key and it unlocks, but then says that there is no key present. If I wait 20-30 seconds, it usually finds at the key and works. I have had to use my phone a couple times to get the car to drive. I carry the keycard but have not had to use it yet. When I leave the vehicle, it turns off and locks about 50% of the. The rest of the time, I have to hit lock via the app. Once time, it would not turn off or lock at all until I rebooted it.

I will say that my old issues are still resolved. I no longer have issues with the turn signal camera going on and off, no more cameras unavailable call service warnings, no more parking cameras randomly just going black when I'm trying to park. I will also say that CarPlay has worked great for me - it consistently connects and just works.

Unrelated to 3.5.1 bugs, but I tried to schedule the 2nd row bracket inspection and I was told that our mobile tech does not yet have the tool for it. I guess I'm going to be waiting a bit to get that done. I also have the light bar trim piece (the silver/gunmetal piece run under the Lucid logo on the frunk) coming unglued so I'm hoping they can fix that, too, when they do the bracket inspection.

I think all of the issues I'm having with my Gravity (other than the trim piece, of course) are software-related. I'm really hoping that the next update will fix more of these issues and not break something else. I am tentatively planning on taking the Gravity on a road trip from the Twin Cities to Telluride to Milwaukee and back to the Twin Cities in a couple weeks but I really want the software update to roll out first and hopefully fix more of the bugs.

I have a periodic "Drive system..." error. Mobile service will look at it next week, but everyone I spoke with at Lucid agreed I should just keep driving it until mobile service.

Refilled Windshield Wiper Fluid reservoir (1 Gallon), but still seeing Drive System Error warning many days afterwards. Error consistently appears as soon as I press the Brake pedal and shift to Drive.

The only few times error doesn't show is if I press Brake pedal and shift to Drive WITHOUT buckling Driver's Seatbelt (not always reproducible). But as soon as I shift to Park at the end of my trip, error pops up.

Just as I no longer have attention span to log all the software issues and their comments I can no longer log my own software list. It’s long. Probably 75% or more have happened once. And things like the fob reatedly - often but not >50%.

Also I was free of just about all issues until ~2 weeks after the 3.5.1.

So, these are two different things, right?

Did refilling the windshield reservoir fix the washer fluid issue?

The drive system issue I’ve commented on.

I can’t fathom how they managed to convince so many reviewers that the bugs were fixed in the January update. Or did they regress?

Nope. Refilling Windshield Wiper Reservoir did not resolve "Drive System Needs Service" warning. It continued to happen as soon as I pressed the Brake Pedal and shifted into Drive (except for the few random times warning did not show if I pressed Brake Pedal and shifted into Drive before buckling Seatbelt).

Happy to report that as of 1 day ago, "Drive System Needs Service" warning appears to have self-resolved. I've driven and parked 4 times now without pesky warning. Only change was charging Gravity from 18% to 90%.
