My first EA charging experience

Right; they mean EA apps. And they’re right.

Lucid considers the “select a charger from the Lucid app” to be *working* “plug and charge,” for what it’s worth. The times when it automatically starts are ideal, but the station has to support that. Some don’t, and then you’ll need to start it from the Lucid app, which is still considered “working” plug and charge.
If you have to open an app and select a charger, the plug and charge protocol is not working as intended (EA or Lucid issue… /shrugs). I was unpleasantly surprised by having to open the app to initiate a charge from a charger I’ve used multiple times over the past few months for the first time.

Happy it worked and I guess it’s a good recovery method for a handshake gone wrong, but definitely not an ideal thing to do or expect.

I hear you. I just mean that Lucid considers that working as intended, and that the issue is with EA needing input for certain chargers; I believe they’re fixing this by rolling out software updates eventually.

I don't understand why this is so hard. there is nothing inside the box. nothing.
ok: there are two or three big fat wires and a thing that makes a hmmmmmm noise.
how hard is that?

so many times when I make toast it doesn't get hot or takes hours. not.

it has to be the thing that makes the hmmmmmmmmmmmm noise. what is the deal with these electrons that don't know the words to the charging song?

I believe there are at least 2 issues at play. One, EA is in the process of updating the software on their chargers. I believe that will help. Along with the Lucid software updates, I think the handshake problem is solved (based on my limited charging experience. The bigger issue IMO is the demand on the grid at the charger location. The Cheyenne location abuts a tract home neighborhood. I have to believe grid demand is overwhelming, hence the low charging rates that I've experienced. I'll try again in a couple of days and verify or refute my guess.

I had my first experience with EA this week as well, was a matter of convenience while needing to stop and join a conference call. Pulled up to a 150kw unit, immediately saw only one handle was operable.
Plugged the car in with the other, got back in and got on my call. I watched it charge at about 6kw for 10min before jumping to 49kw.....talk about disappointment....luckily charging was not an immediate need, otherwise I would have gotten out of there asap

What I will say is when EA works, it can’t be beat. I’ve never charged faster than on EA, and PnC works most of the time now. My local Wal-Mart which didn’t work for me for 5 months is now working again. However the throttled speeds, broken stations, EA app not accurately reflecting station status, EA support not really being able to help much, and the huge amount of time wasted just to charge a damn battery all adds up to a lot of frustration. The car rocks, and even with the frustrating charging I’d still take it over a Tesla 10 times out of 10 because I think it would be crazy to pick a Tesla just cuz the charging is better when most other things about the Lucid are better (AND the Lucid charges faster when EA works!). Plus even though I road trip a lot I charge at home or at work a lot too, it just takes extra time/planning for road trips if you’re gonna use EA.

EA service in Vegas is deteriorating. 2 chargers down at Target on Flamingo today. Went to Cheyenne and 3 of 4 are down. 2 of them have the cord ("hose") completely snipped off. Either vandalism or the charger transformer went kaput. Called EA and was placed on hold. Bumped into another Lucid owner there, and he said all but 1 of the EA chargers at Arroyo are down. I finally went to the Sam's Club on E. Craig; they worked. I got a whopping 147kW at 30%SOC but that went down linearly. By the time I got to 78%, it was down to 20kW. Ambient temp was 94 so maybe that was a contributing factor. Get yours charged b4 the Memorial Day weekend!

I had a strange thing happen last night. I started to charge AGT at 20%. When I got up this morning it had stopped at 25%? I restarted the charge and is now charging. Anyone have this issue happen to them?

Update: The car is starting and stopping charging. I wonder if the latest update did something to the charging?

Is scheduled charging turned off? Are any lights flashing on your Lucid mobile charger connected to your wall? Or are you connected to a different EVSE?

If the charging starts, it won’t matter if the scheduled is on. the charging doesn’t stop when the scheduled charging period ends, it will continue charging until the set limit.

I has my best EA charging experience so far this week. I went to a station I had used 3 previous times, all pretty bad, never getter higher than 70 kw. This time it quickly recognized my car and began charging at 183 kw. I got 78 kWh in 35 minutes. Perfect amount of time to enjoy a tall beer at Buffalo Wild Wings. I went from 12% to 80 %.

I’m hoping that this will become a more common scenario. Just like Lucid, EA is experiencing growing pains.

Spent first week May in "the holey lands" (canyons), Phoenix to Las Vegas. Was surprised how few solar panels I saw. At the airport, our driver told us to take off our masks...(a luxury limo driver for Tauck) admonishing us that "we don't do that here". I guess I should have been careful about how many locals actively resist adapting to change. I didn't tell him about the refer (refrigerated trailers) parked behind the morgues at city hospitals "back East" during the pandemic.
Did not see many EVs, but lots and lots of huge, inefficient vehicles. On the coconino palteau I saw pickup trucks at the gas stations with a beds full of 55 gallon drums loading water at a public well / tank. They make the best with what they have ... but what they have is sun shine. Was not prepared for how actively resistant the locals are to EVs. Not surprised they vandalize charging stations, but it saddens me, and I don't know how to help them see the light. They keep mules and horses though, so maybe it is I who doesn't "get" it.

Beautiful country. The people are getting screwed by change to which they are unable to adapt. We were in awe of ancient ruins left by people who saw climate change and left. That he not busy being born is busy dying:

Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child’s balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying
Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
Suicide remarks are torn
From the fool’s gold mouthpiece the hollow horn
Plays wasted words, proves to warn
That he not busy being born is busy dying
Temptation’s page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover that you’d just be one more
Person crying
So don’t fear if you hear
A foreign sound to your ear
It’s alright, Ma, I’m only sighing
As some warn victory, some downfall
Private reasons great or small
Can be seen in the eyes of those that call
To make all that should be killed to crawl
While others say don’t hate nothing at all
Except hatred
Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Make everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It’s easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred
While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have to stand naked
An’ though the rules of the road have been lodged
It’s only people’s games that you got to dodge
And it’s alright, Ma, I can make it
Advertising signs they con
You into thinking you’re the one
That can do what’s never been done
That can win what’s never been won
Meantime life outside goes on
All around you
You lose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand with nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
That somebody thinks they really found you
A question in your nerves is lit
Yet you know there is no answer fit
To satisfy, insure you not to quit
To keep it in your mind and not forget
That it is not he or she or them or it
That you belong to
Although the masters make the rules
For the wise men and the fools
I got nothing, Ma, to live up to
For them that must obey authority
That they do not respect in any degree
Who despise their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
Cultivate their flowers to be
Nothing more than something they invest in
While some on principles baptized
To strict party platform ties
Social clubs in drag disguise
Outsiders they can freely criticize
Tell nothing except who to idolize
And then say God bless him
While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society’s pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he’s in
But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it’s alright, Ma, if I can’t please him
Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn’t talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony
While them that defend what they cannot see
With a killer’s pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death’s honesty
Won’t fall upon them naturally
Life sometimes must get lonely
My eyes collide head-on with stuffed
Graveyards, false gods, I scuff
At pettiness which plays so rough
Walk upside-down inside handcuffs
Kick my legs to crash it off
Say okay, I have had enough
what else can you show me?
And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They’d probably put my head in a guillotine
But it’s alright, Ma, it’s life, and life only
