As someone who has roadtripped quite a bit with my Air Touring, I can tell you, having a GT isn't as big an advantage as most people think.
Sure, there are specific trips where you could skip charging altogether that would be nice. But more often than not, you're going to want to stop more than the car needs to stop on most trips, anyway. And having the car at a lower SOC when you do stop gets you back up to the range you need for your next stop that much faster.
Not saying the extra range isn't a nice to have; just saying it's overpriced for the benefit you get.
Same goes for horsepower. Every GT owner tells me how much they "miss" the extra HP whenever they get a Touring loaner.
Okay.
I can get from 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds. That's faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo was when I was a kid. And it's way faster than I'll ever need to merge into traffic on even the worst designed highway onramp.
Realistically, unless you are putting your car in Sprint whenever you get on the highway, you aren't getting much more horsepower than I have when I do put my car in Sprint on the highway.
So yeah. The extra HP is "fun". But you can't argue it's not overpriced.
Massage seats? Take my money now. Full leather interior? Now you're talking. These are things I'm happy to pay for.
I suspect having the larger battery will be a bigger deal in a car like Midsize platform. Where the extended range will be more like a Gravity Touring, and the smaller pack will get you somewhere in the 300 mile EPA range.
For Gravity and especially Air, it's not as big a deal.
