Lucid will not offer heads-up display on Gravity GT (for now)

It's back in the configurator for the Gravity GT with a Fall Availability notation...
I believe this is exactly how I recommended they handle this in a post yesterday over on the “Gravity Delivery Discussion” thread.

Imagine if they had done that to start!

And, honestly, aren't most GTs going to be "Fall Availability"? How many of these is the new line prepared to build per month?

I see that my existing order has been changed back to include the package with HUD for fall availability. I'm not sure if it was automatic, or if my SA had to make a change to restore it.

Maybe this was planned all along just to “fill up” the DE pipeline so they could sell 425 DEs, thus maximizing revenue.

Originally the plan was to deliver GGT as the first Gravitys. Apparently now the DE will be the initial 425 units then the GGT.

450 Dream units, the EPA range of the longest-range version.

Funny how this thread turned out.
When I started it, all I did was post the email I received from Lucid — with zero commentary. Just the facts. The email simply stated that the HUD would no longer be available on the Gravity GT, and that if I still wanted HUD, I could upgrade to the Dream Edition. If I didn’t, Lucid would lower my price by $2,600. Straightforward.

In my next post, I shared that I was honestly torn on what to do — I really wanted the HUD option. Again, no attacks on Lucid. No soapbox speeches about their decision-making. Just a personal dilemma I was working through.

But wow — the reactions.
Some jumped to conclusions. Others went straight to criticizing Lucid, their employees, their decisions, even how the email was written. It turned into a pile-on.

Guys — we have to stop being so sensitive, so quick to criticize, and so negative.
At the end of the day, this was just a decision I had to make: accept the change or upgrade.
That’s it.
I honestly thought — Lucid probably had a good reason for this. Oh well, what’s my next move?

Let’s stay focused and keep the passion positive. We’re all here because we believe in something special.

Pivot to the Touring model? Strip down the GT but have the larger pack and call it a Touring+. (I know probably unrealistic but is it?)

Anyone who buys a GT now and then finds out later if you waited you could have had a HUD would be upset if the HUD kicks ass. Assuming the HUD really kicks ass like we all believe.
Realistically, with technology steadily moving forward in EVs, it's pretty much guaranteed that you're going to be disappointed that you don't have some newer, cooler vehicle/feature after you've purchased a vehicle.

I think it's much better to think about whether you feel you're getting value for money with the vehicle you're considering purchasing.

I placed my order for a GT in March. I was waiting to hear more about the Grand Touring vs Touring, and then pulled the trigger for the GT once it became clear that the Touring would have substantially less range. In light of the previous announcements of slow ramps to ensure high quality production, I'm taking the HUD announcement in stride, precisely because I figure the supply chain issue may be worked out by the time my vehicle goes down the production line.

Definitely a good way to look at the HUD supply issue.

The HUD supply issue is somewhat of another bump in the road to Gravity. However, this bump also created an additional option customers. The grouping of features within the option packages was an early criticism. The original Technology Package has been revised to now offer customers 3 choices instead of the original 2. A small change and not intended by Lucid, some customers will take it and possibly get their Gravity sooner.

On the communication side of things, while I did receive an email about the loss of HUD on my Grand Touring order, I didn't receive a correction email when it was reinstated. Just noticed it myself when re-checking my current order.

“Fall Availability” = deliver 1 GGT + HUD by 11:59pm (PST) on December 21, 2025. My carpool already hates me because I was going to have a 7-seater by EOY 2024, then Q2025. Wait until they hear this.... :)

Just hoping HUD fall availability isn't Android Auto style of fall availability.

I disagree, but from the perspective of someone who owns vehicles for 7+ years.

From the perspective of my phone which lasts me 1-2 years before trade-up, I'd agree.

For reference, I had my last EV for 8 years and new stuff did come along during that 8 years - far more "new stuff" than will come along in the next 8 years - and I was never disappointed. But, I did get a loaded car that had pretty much everything in it already, including some features that hadn't been developed yet but were promised. By the time I sold the car, the undeveloped features were working just fine. If I had ordered without the undeveloped feature because "new stuff comes along all the time", I would have been disappointed.

They aren't planning this to be just another "speed+nav arrows" HUD, they are planning a pretty amazing Augmented Reality display. By the time I sell this car, it should be a pretty amazing experience and will matter to me. On top of this, it isn't like we'll have to wait years to get the HUD, it is "Fall Availability" and even if that means December 21st, I can wait so that the next 7+ years will be that much better...

I feel the same way; we've had our X for six years, and until this year it's always felt like a "brand-new vehicle" because of the constant updates. It was a huge difference from our previous Audi Q7 experience, where they wanted us to pay $300/yr to get map updates! I would have gladly kept the X for another 4 years, except that we've been abandoned on the feature updates (ADAS and remote camera access, all promised repeatedly "by the end of Q4" last year), and the whole Musk situation.

I expect to keep the Gravity for at least six years, and I expect the same level of OTA functionality updates during that time. That's why I've paid the upcharge for the DD2Pro hardware even though it doesn't really do all that much yet, and why I want the HUD hardware as well.
