Lucid to recall over 2,000 vehicles in US due to drive power issues

By Thomson Reuters May 29, 2026 | 3:39 AM
May 29 (Reuters) – Electric vehicle maker Lucid is recalling 2,039 vehicles in the U.S. due ‌to a loss of drive power that increases the risk of a crash, ‌the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Friday.

Here are some details:

• The company is recalling some of its 2024-2025 Air vehicles in the U.S, the NHTSA said.

• The auto safety regulator added that the recalls are due to ‌an issue with the vehicle’s inverter, which may become damaged, resulting in a loss of drive power.

• Lucid will release an over-the-top ‌software update to inspect the issue, the NHTSA ‌said, adding that the EV maker will replace the inverter free of charge.

I got a letter on this a few weeks ago

Almost. Gotta get AI out of the press... 🤣

From press coverage, apparently based on the fuller Lucid statement…

Only the Air Pure RWD

The issue is limited to the single-motor Air Pure as the variant runs on one drive unit, the rear drive unit, so a single inverter failure leaves no backup.

Lucid estimates that about 1.6% of the recalled population, or roughly 33 vehicles, actually carries the defect.

Dual-motor Air models, including Touring and Grand Touring, are excluded.

Thanks, appreciate the details.

Maybe this was related to the last software update, it bricked a few Air Pures. That’s not a very big recall but it’s good they are doing it.

I have a 2025 Air Pure RWD only that was impacted by the recent 2.9.2 update so it sounds like this could impact my vehicle. I did just receive a safety recall letter in the mail for the half-shaft bolt issue, but nothing about the inverter. My annual service is in a few weeks, and the half-shaft fix was already on the ticket before I even got the safety recall letter so it seems like Natick, MA service is proactively working through some of these.

I'm still on .30 so I avoided that whole mess but I am scheduled for service for the half shaft issue in about a week. Will be interesting to see if they find anything on this as well.

I have an ongoing text thread with my service counselor and asked if no news was good news on this recall and got a very long boilerplate-ish response back right away. He doesn't think they are at the notifying owners stage yet on this issue. But if it is determined that my vehicle is affected, I will be notified, they will be notified, it will be fixed once they have parts and staff, etc, etc.

I have a 2024 Air Pure. I got a recall notice about half shaft expansion issue.
I am in Atlanta area. I am trying to make an appointment via the app to get it repaired at Roswell Service Center.
The app does not shows any options available in June/July/August and it does not display an option for September.
Wondering how concerned I should be about driving my car and how to get service. I have had the car for 19 months and I have not had any issues.
I got it serviced last year and it was easy to make an appointment. I plant to call the Roswell center today.

I really wish they would just remove that from the app - it hasn't worked in forever.
You need to call the service center to set up an appointment.

Not true. I just set up service last week via the available spots join the app. The prior time I had to call but this time there was availability. I reserved June 9 and got a call for follow up loaner delivery the next day.

It works sometimes I think different service centers have different ways of updating it. Seattle shows it in service when it is, Rocklin doesn’t. 🤷

I just got the letter. 2025 PURE RWD.

Wait, this explains everything.

Lucid said they were pushing out an OTA that would identify the affected units. That’s why some people are getting drive unit errors. They’re the affected ones.

I called them and I got an appointment on July 15th. I hope that people who are writing the app are not working on the vehicle software
:)

It depends entirely on the service center.

I just got the letter in the mail. Guess I'm one of the lucky 33. The closest service center is Roswell, GA and it's 6 hours away. My email to the service center and customer support hasn't received any response back. I'm really hoping the service backlogs are cleared soon enough.

I got a home service Appt. about 2 months out. I map into Roswell also, but my home service team is from Charlotte.
