Lucid Reports Sales In Q3 Earnings Call - Leadership Updates - Playing to Win

Lol. Did we listen to the same earnings call?
I can't express how useless analyst estimate numbers and earnings whispers are at this point in a company's maturity like Lucid. The analyst is at best case 30% accurate even in a highly mature, well understood stable business. Who cares if Lucid 'missed' EPS and revenue estimates? They grew revenue 68% which is exactly what is going for at this point. They have cash and loan options to get them to bring mid-size to production.

Short-term I want to see Gravity ramp, Lucid sales getting broken out of the 'other' category in Cox by volume (right now its lumped with Polestar and Vinfast). Then starting to hack away at Rivian's lead in EV SUV premium/luxury segment.

Hopefully everyone in the store and the Rivian is okay. Did they state why it happened?
Not much- I shop there all the time, and can't imagine how someone would be accelerating that fast towards the store. Local news was focused on how the Fire Department was super concerned about 'runaway thermal events' that ALWAYS happen with EVs.. Here's a link to more pictures. The Rivian looks pretty trashed - they sawed off the roof? and it doesn't sound like people were too badly injured. Kind of remarkable, if you look at the damage. Actually headed out there right now...

My thesis for holding the stock long term is pretty centered on international growth. They have to compete in the biggest ev markets. The fact that I saw growth there makes me happy. They also had smaller cash burn than I expected.

I think the personnel turnover is positive. They can’t ship cars with non-functioning keys and lots of software bugs at this point. These are fixable problems and they need new people to fix them. They really really need an army of competent people and a great communicator/salesman as CEO. Looking forward to the new CEO being announced this quarter. And I hope Mark finds himself a great position in the company as Head of Europe or something.

That is definitely a good thesis. Marc did great on this call, though, and I personally felt even more enthusiasm.

Agreed. I’m going to miss seeing Eric and James Hawkins at events. They were both class acts who brought much to the vehicle in all aspects of drivetrain technology.

Emad continuing to advance in his role gives me absolute confidence that they’ll continue to innovate and create amazing vehicles. Emad is super diligent in both getting BOM down and making the best technological leaps towards the efficiency needed (with the associated battery cost) to make midsize profitable.

Gravity and Air both have had an amazing team, and I think although this is a leadership shakeup it’s not a leadership gutting. I have faith that Lucid will continue advancing and building amazing vehicles.
They have amazing engineers, but their software sucks, too many bugs. Not acceptable in this day and age. That’s why they got canned.

I beg to differ. James Hawkins had nothing to do with the software at Lucid. He was and is an amazing mechanical and electrical engineer. We don't know why they left or were let go. But all indications are that it was an amicable thing as Eric left with a good recommendation and thanks from the company.

This is in contrast to how Elon treated Rawlinson...

Yes, the two people who have absolutely nothing at all to do with infotainment software in the vehicles for canned because of… bad infotainment software?

That’s a logical leap I’m not sure even you know to make. :)

I am surprised Lucid managed to stay Green today. This is really weird. Hope something good is happening in the background

I know a lot of long term lcid shareholders and they have trouble seeing good news. But they just got a longer run way, significantly increased sales and manufacturing, opened up new markets, and showed that they are willing to change the leadership structure. Even if you don’t love the moves, making the moves is important. Because what they were doing re quality control and software was broken.

Well they needed to do something to address their QC issues. They continue to produce cars that are marvelous feats of engineering, but are riddled with problems. They just introduced their latest and greatest vehicle, but they are so riddled with problems that they are jamming up their service network so that Air customers are having trouble getting normal maintenance done.

It looks to me like these management changes are aimed at addressing these problems. Seems like a good move for LCID.

Rivian up 31% YTD

Lucid down 43% YTD

The disaster of Lucid management! Yeah, “supply chain issues”……
