Lucid Motors slashes 12% of its workforce as it seeks profitability (Feb 2026)

my gut told me not to buy BTC when it was $100 cuz my brother in law told me too and I was like what is that even I don't care man but have fun with your digital money

It does appear some service staff got cut. San Jose and San Diego in particular. I have no idea why. I assume (hope?) there’s a hiring plan, too.
They also fired the service manager (at least) from the Roswell GA site. They need MORE people at their service centers, not less!!! This part makes no sense and is worrisome as more and more of these vehicles roll out with support already struggling to keep up...

I suspect they have difficulty getting the roles filled. I don’t know why experienced techs would consider working for them.

Sometimes these opportunities are used to get rid of dead weight. Who knows if they had performance issues with that particular person. People were complaining about the service at San Diego and seems some staff got the boot from there as well. Not necessarily a bad thing if you’ve got poor performers to move them out with a round of layoffs.

I see it more as a symbolic gesture before the earnings call. They will spend $40M to save $145M. Compared to the $2.8B loss, does not make a significant difference.

Sure, but in big companies (like in governments), they're made up of LOTS of smaller parts. You can only get to big savings by cutting spending in many areas. It all adds up.

They never said they were going to sell in 2026, only produce. They could literally make 50 cars in December to meet that goal and deliver them in 2027. Given that nothing has been shown on the midsize and we’re almost 3 months into 2026 already, l’ll be happy if they start producing them by year end. The clock is ticking to show the midsize, and fast!
I think they're intentionally keeping midsize under their wraps until investor day. I did notice this image in the investor documents:

To me, it looks like they're well-passed midsize's design stage if they're already hinting at robotaxi hardware integration.

The most recent investor call mentioned that they have completed the first production validation models for midsize. Winterhoff also claimed that total costs of midsize components were below costs estimates and that the Saudi Arabia facility is slightly ahead of schedule on construction. Since midsize is still on-track for end-of-year start of production, I believe these further add to my gut feeling that Lucid is intentionally keeping their cards close to their chest for midsize's reveal.

Personally, I think that they're doing this so that when they do have the official midsize reveal, they can strike while the iron is hot and emphasize the EOY start of production. I can only hope that the knockdown Air and Gravity kits being sent to the Saudi Arabia plant have given the teams the hands-on experience they need for scaling up midsize. Winterhoff has also stressed about waiting for the investor day for more midsize news, so I think we should wait until then.

That’s my worry, they haven’t made a car from scratch and you’re giving them the most important one to build. The Service Centers will not be able to handle the volume if the cars are delivered with QC issues like what has been experienced with the Gravity, and that came from a factory with years of building a model from scratch.

I’ll believe it when I see it. It seems virtually impossible that they will be scaling both a service (robotaxi) and a vehicle (midsize) in 36 months and neither of those things exist today. It’s not going to happen, and they know it. They can’t even fix the cars they’ve already sold in a timely fashion.

the photograph says midsize robotaxi in 2029. Also in the investor call Winterhoff said that Gravity robotaxis are scheduled for delivery this year

yeah, totally fair to be worried. Given that Winterhoff has stressed the cost structure of midsize being drastically different, I think it could be a clean slate for Lucid to start fresh (for better or for worse). Only time will tell.

Forget layoffs, their guidance of only 25k to 27k cars produced in 2026 isn't encouraging!
Agree considering Lucid finished 2025 at a run rate of 7500 per quarter. I would have expected growth on that or total production near 33k. I also view the 1.2 to 1.4 B CAPex spend with the majority spent on AMP-2 to indicate that midsize production will have a very slow ramp. if there is that much equipment to still install in AMP-2, no serious production will occur until well into 2027. Still no indication of when AMP-1 will produce midsize.

Their robotaxi isn't much of a service outside of the software. They're partnering with Uber on deployment, and Uber has already made it clear they want to provide both app software and fleet management for AVs, which means lucid would just be responsible for the vehicle and AV software.
