Lucid Investor Day - March 12, 2026

My friend literally has a doctorate in neural networks for autonomous driving. He has said that Tesla is the best, but still not good, and that the whole industry is lying it’s ass off, and that we are ten years out minimum, if something like L3 or L4 even happens at all.
And I work in AI as a data scientist. If you think the automotive industry is lying about autonomous driving (yes even Tesla), you'll lose your mind with how much all the other industries are overselling themselves on AI. (Also yes, we are in an AI bubble).

I think that's more a function of Air having a small addressable market. Most people hear about these things via word of mouth or by seeing them in person. Air had few sales and Gravity only just started ramping. I'd expect brand awareness to increase significantly over the next two years.
I realize this is a silly comparison but everyone knows what Ferrari is despite their cars having a very small TAM. Why? Ferrari has had a lot longer to do marketing and they are just better at it.

Scuderia Ferrari started racing 97 years ago… That might have helped a little… 😊

Your friend is wrong, Tesla is not the best, Waymo is….go look at critical disengagement frequency . Best should mean safety as well-meaning having LIDAR which Musk doesn’t use because it’s cheaper to get rid of it and he can save time and compute power with no redundancies. That’s the real reason Musk got rid of it. His so called neural network wasn’t able to compute incorporating Lidar, so Musk conveniently called it a fools errand. More like fools listening to him.

One can only hope that, in the interest of simplicity, they did not outline the Air roadmap to satisfy the lesser, but clear PROMISES made to those of us who paid for more of the L2 and at least basic L3 functionality than we have today. That, or they will be facing one heckuva lot of unhappy early adopters. And please, you revisionists out there... their promises were clear. They can be watered down in subsequent presentations all they want, but that does not make them go away.
Nick Twork already confirmed it’s not happening for Air. The hardware isn’t capable and is another case of Lucid over promising and under delivering.

That has become the new trend in AI/robotaxi unfortunately. Wish people didn’t promise the moon….everyone took lessons from Musk on how to pump up their company stock. Hence Rivian jumping in the AI/robotaxi bandwagon.

But I guess that’s what Lucid and Rivian need to do to exist, especially with the Trump administration favoring oil companies.

Ferrari doesn’t really advertise. They race and hold private events for their customer base. Their new models often sell out before they are unveiled. They are not a great example.

Admittedly I didn’t read every page of this thread but has it been mentioned that there was no mention on the features slide of Halo/Sentry on the Air (yes on Gravity further down the road).

That’s kind of a bummer as I would’ve expected this by now with all the cameras in the car.

Where does your friend live? Has he ridden in a Waymo? Waymo’s are all over the place in San Francisco and other major cities. L4 is not 10 years from now. It’s today (and has been for a few years.)

Preface: I don’t even know anyone who works on this technology. :)

But I believe Waymo still has remote operators who take over sometimes. So Waymo’s are technically L3

Waymo is L4.

At L3, a human must be in the driver’s seat and be ready to take over at any time when prompted by the system. Remote operators are not monitoring the car as if they are in the driver’s seat. They are like tow trucks - come to the rescue of a stuck car.

Waymo is not L4

He’s also a professor I’m sure he’d love to argue with you.

Like you, I once argued with him. And he goes “I know I’m an idiot in general but in this one single topic I am an expert and I literally wrote the book” Which is true. I remember in high schools when he showed up in a brand new Mustang and said “ha ha hey guys guess what?! I joined the Air Force for a sports car 😂 “ and he had done exactly that.

Or I could send you one of his books?

No thanks. Titles don’t bestow intelligence nor wisdom. Present your supporting evidence that Waymo is not L4 besides “my friend the professor says…”

A simple google search for “Waymo level of autonomy” will give you plenty of starting points for research.

Do we really need another ____ measuring contest on this forum?

Agree to disagree and move on.

The levels of autonomy thing is pretty ill defined and poorly understood, anyway.

L3-4 autonomy will in all likelihood be commoditized in new cars in a few years, so it'll be interesting how subscription pricing for this works out with the competition. $199/month in 2026 dollars seems like a lot.
It is a lot. There is no universe in which I'll be paying $199/mo, or even $69/mo for any functionality of any car I buy or lease.

Sorry, but I'll believe it when Emad Dlala says it. I trust him to do everything possible to stand behind the Air DDP committments that Lucid has made.... Even those that didn't happen on his watch. I don't understand why so many forum members seem to be so quick to quietly roll over on this, often using the rationale that 'all EV companies do it'. I think Lucid is better than that. And even if you don't own an Air, please bear in mind that an inordinate shift of focus to the next big thing may be in the future for you and your platform as well. I hope it doesn't happen, but history does tend to repeat itself.

I mean, it’s pretty clear from today’s announcements that it’s done! No ADAS/Autonomy mentioned for Air at all. If Gravity can’t even handle L3 how on earth do you think Air will on older hardware than Gravity…..

And yes, it’s clear the path Lucid is taking when it comes to promised features they charge for. They simply may never see the light of day and that’s not a good look for them.
