In today’s Apple WWDC keynote, they had a section about the progress of car keys in Apple Wallet. More than 20 brands already have it and a list of 13 were coming soon, including Lucid. Has anyone here heard of any developments in this space? This was the first time I’ve heard of the possibility of an Apple Wallet car key for Lucid. I wonder if it will just be part of Gravity’s new lock system or if it will be available for Air as well. It works quite well with our BMW iX, so hopefully it works great in whatever iteration comes to Lucid.

Lucid being Lucid will no doubt take its sweet ass time to communicate anything on this. I think the best part that we can take from today was Lucid was actually in the list. 🥳

I saw the program yesterday myself and heard that as well. I wonder what benefits there would be over what we are currently have using our iPhones. I know it’s not the greatest feature, but it does work.

Here’s what I found on a google search:

Apple Wallet car keys allow users to use their iPhone or Apple Watch to lock, unlock, and start their car. The features available depend on the car model, so it's best to check with the manufacturer or dealership. When added to the Wallet, Express Mode is automatically enabled, allowing you to use the car key without unlocking your device or authenticating with Face ID or Touch ID.

Long story short, you tap your phone on the B-pillar, like you would a keycard, and it unlocks. Express mode means you don’t have to worry about “selecting” the key in wallet. It just works.

It isn’t proximity though; you need to tap.

Still, that is cool. One less wallet card... maybe!

It is proximity on my BMW iX and it works flawlessly. Doors unlock immediately when approaching the car. Would love to see this implemented on Lucids but won’t hold my breath….

I loved how my iPhone worked with the iX, and more importantly, my Apple Watch. Just for when I wanted to get something out of the car while it's in the garage, just having my watch was enough for it to unlock so I could easily do so. BMW has the same limitation of our Lucid in that walk-away lock is an all or nothing setting, not location-dependent.

It is proximity. We have it on our EV9 and it works pretty great about 95% of the time. Sometimes a little too good as it'll unlock and we feel it shouldn't as we are not super close to the car. Other very occasional times, it won't open for a bit and it seems to know if it's raining or have bags and REALLY want it to open quickly from further out!😂

Should be great for Lucid!

I can see the posts now......

Well it's shit then! only 95%?? I don't want to be standing in the rain 5% of the time waiting for my $100K+ car to open! 😂

We are gonna need a Google Wallet car key support thread soon just like Android Auto, aren't we?

Hoping this comes to Air, I think they can implement using the Bluetooth connection or at least NFC even if there is no UWB

The first generation of the digital key was only tap, but the second generation is proximity based. It has worked flawlessly on our iX. We don’t have proximity unlock turned on, since the handles don’t come out, but the car unlocks immediately when pressing the release button in the door handle. Proximity lock also works great. I’ll say that the fob on my Air is 90% great, but my mobile key is pretty finicky and only seems to work when I’m 3-5 feet from the car and doesn’t work well when approaching from the back.

You’re right. I’m wrong.

I stand corrected.
