Lucid Gravity update 3.3.5 + fob update

In the app I don’t get an option for a mobile tech?

I think you can ask for mobile service if it's something the mobile tech can handle. However, I'm not aware of any way to ask for a specific tech.

I downloaded 3.5.5 to both our Gravities last evening. This morning everything seemed fine with the green GDE (although I haven't driven it yet). But the black GDE would not respond to the key even though the key had worked flawlessly all day yesterday. I had to remove and reinsert the battery to get it working again.

FYI for everyone I just got off the phone with service. Service centers are making sure they have correct procedure to update the fob firmware, so may not be able to do the update yet so call them before you go. The firmware update itself takes 10 minutes. Their people were great, I was gonna get off the phone but they asked me how everything was going with the car and genuinely wanted to know in detail and make sure they identified any other issues that might not be software.

Dolphins' concerns are certainly appropriate. I hope you follow through on your reservation and become an owner, however. Best handling car I have ever owned, for what that is worth. I additionally agree that 'being able to open and start/drive vehicle' is a 'critical error' rather than an 'early adopter software bug'. I've had my Gravity one week and have experienced the 'black screen' twice already. Fortunately, each time the reboot has worked to restore functionality, but it is certainly a pain to wait around through the reboot cycle just to be able to drive. Updated to the new software this morning...so we'll see how many issues that fixes.

Updated last night.

Got to the car this morning, got in and black screens. All black. I waited a minute, got impatient, and I attempted a reboot. No audible sound to confirm anything happened but shortly after the main screen directly in front of the wheel came up. The two screen on the right, remained blank. This time I did a full 25 second reboot, audible queues were heard, and then everything booted up correctly.

First shift into drive, and didn't key the no key detected message.

I'm just going let this mornings issue slide on the premise that with every update we should just give the car a good ole reboot. We'll see how the next 48 hrs goes.

Well the good news is key fob works flawlessly now. Bad news is it broke my cameras, left turn signal cam got stuck on, all other cameras quit including backup camera and I’m trying to take my kid to this Halloween parade and it’s hard to find parking and I have no cameras to park with. I’m pulled over on the side of the road to see if reboot works. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
Ok reboot fixed it. I’m gonna be brutally honest though, I have a co-worker who wants a Gravity for wife and kids but I’m gonna have to tell him I can’t recommend it until the software is more stable. I can handle it but I’m not gonna tell a mom with 3 kids to get a car but make sure she knows to reboot it any time there’s a software update and it needs the long reboot by holding down steering wheel reset to wait for two beeps, and navigation also may not take you to right location which is just what happened to me on the way to the Halloween parade before I changed the address. The software shouldn’t be this unreliable this far along.

I did a two button reset after I upgraded just as a matter of habit. I always did the same with our Teslas. Our GGT is working well so far. No more false key not found messages.

The Seattle service center said the fob update requires an appointment. According to the app, there are no appointments available for as far forward as the app shows, which is the end of 2025. Hopefully they’ll allow drop-ins once the situation is a little more familiar to them.

That’s like giving the kid a drum and not letting the kid play it!!

Double check with them once they’re sure on the way to do the fob firmware, Natick told me it takes 10 minutes, just call and tell them you’re coming in, it should NOT be some appointment you schedule in the app a month from now.

Yep, I realized I should have done that also. I don’t think Lucid is going to tell customers “by the way when we send you an OTA don’t forget to do steering wheel reset before you drive cuz otherwise new things might go wrong”.

Well, the other piece is, except for Lucid, fobs are easy, proven tech. Even Tesla will sell you one of you want.

Who knows what or why. They’ll get it fixed because they have to. How long will it take? IDK and neither does Lucid. They’d be idiots to say “this fixes it completely” because odds are it won’t and then they’ll look even worse.

I continue to believe it’s mainly a fob hardware/firmware issue - especially given the fob battery “reset” being so important - so not expecting much from 3.3.5 until I get the fob update. I intend to bring my car in to get that update as we don’t need to schedule. But I will be super annoyed if I arrive and they make me wait 20 minutes or something. In that case they’d be better off making folks schedule to respect our time. We shall see.
fwiw the fob update itself takes about 5 mins for them to do

hmmm, the same service center did the update (on my second fob) in 5 mins without an appointment.

Which makes me wonder… could they not democratize this and let the owners do this on their own??” (With caveats)

1. get an android phone
2. Download this apk
3. Etc…

Rebooting after the update makes no sense. The whole car reboots after it installs an update, just like your computer or phone.
Your phone and computer have much more stable software, I’m honestly not sure what kind of reboot the Gravity does on its own post install but the fact that mine caused a total camera crash after 10 minutes of driving that was then fixed by a reboot means something either went wrong on the install reboot or there’s coincidentally yet another new glitch created.

You will need to get your key fob firmware updated to experience the performance improvement. This can be done at your service center. No appointment is necessary, but please call ahead. You can also schedule a mobile appointment.
YMMV whether appointment is needed. Scottsdale definitely wants you to make an appointment. Nov 10th was the first available immediately after we installed 3.3.5. I was especially disappointed by this because we are leaving on a trip in our GDE on Sunday.

Same! Key fob had been working OK (with the usual delays, warnings, etc.), but this morning, which was the first time I’d approached the car since the 3.3.5 update was installed, it didn’t recognize the key fob at all. Not via proximity or button presses. I just stood there dumbfounded. Of course I was running late for the gym. This always happens when I am in a rush 🥴

I went back into the house to get my key card, which DID work, but none of my key fob preferences or settings were applied. I obviously need to add the key card to my profile, but keep forgetting to do so. The car woke up and let me shift it into gear, but homelink wouldn’t respond to direct tapping on screen, nor programmable button presses. I was trapped in my garage 😖 So I ran back into the house again and grabbed the garage door remote and was on my way (quite late).

I wish I’d thought to fiddle with the key fob battery. That may have helped me avoid the whole palaver. Sigh.

Interestingly, when I approached the car to drive home after the gym, it recognized the key fob. It took it several seconds to do so (whilst I stood next to the car), but it unlocked, all my profile prefs were activated, and it let me drive 🎉 And as an added bonus, as I approached my house, the programmable button press activated Home Link.

Updated software last night but don’t have the fob update yet. Everything worked on my first drive this morning including cameras and nav and I didn’t get any phantom fob not detected errors (or any other errors for what it’s worth). So far so good 😊

Since this update “might not” do much without a fob update, it might be best to not install, make service appointment first, and then update software the day before your appointment. I would be especially inclined to take this approach if I was not currently having many fob issues.
