Lucid Gravity GT 70MPH Range Test State of Charge Video - 345 Miles

There's a lot to control out, but OOS 70mph tests deserve credit for index (hashing) EPA Range. It doesn't seem there's enough data to prove higher frontal areas create a bigger gap, but this should be intuitive (Cd doesn't reveal aerodynamics, by itself). The Gravity, like Tom's 60mph Escalade, probably improves range more quickly as you slow down. Conversely, the 70mph test represents a greater penalty as you speed up from the lower average EPA test cycle speed.
 
While I’d made a separate thread for my own range test (I only used half the battery but can extrapolate to a full range test), and while I was not at a perfect 71mph the entire time, I’d say 90% of the test or more was at 71 mph, and at 68F temps I got 97% EPA which would be about 395 miles of range on a Gravity Dream EPA which is rated for 410 on the range wheels. Maybe low temps affected it but today I did part of that same route in the rain at 58F and 71mph got results similar to Tom’s efficiency, which means his car must have been messed up because I’m in a DE not a 5 seater GGT. Basically his car was performing like it was in the rain and had many more pounds and 200 more HP. There’s no way his test was representative.
 
That's aggregate for all EVs since 2016. I'm talking about recent cars circa 2024-2026 models where tire and efficiency tech has gotten significantly better. If you go with Out of Spec Tested videos and compare the EPAs vs the results they get, it falls within 8-10% off the EPA @ 70MPH. That's true for the 2026 Model Y, the ID.4 Buzz, Ford Silverado, Chevy Blazer, and 2025 Rivian Tri Motor. The BMW i5 and Polestar 2024 exceed their EPA. The only one close to -21% off is the Ionic 5 in 40 degree F temps.
I'm not sure the change is due to better tech. Rather, I suspect that manufacturers are realizing that having independent testing report much lower range is a marketing/PR headache for them, and so they've become less inclined to work the EPA procedures and report maximum range.
 
I’ve been doing a lot of highway driving. Climate on, not babying the throttle, 75 mph on dream drive most of the way and am getting 350 miles of range. This is with 7 seat configuration and mid-size wheels. I drive this car everywhere and already have 3,100 miles on it. EPA on mine is 386. When city only driving I’m getting in the 390-405 range.
That fantastic. Begs to ask the question how they market the most energy efficient spec at 450 miles yet only achieving 77%, yet they market 386 and you’re getting 350.

So the 21/22 weren’t actually tested, it appears, per EPA numbers. The 386 number is for the seven seater with 22/23 performance tires that was tested. We can expect something between the 386 and 437 (20/21 7 seater) for the 21/22 seven seater given smaller tires and all season tires versus performance (less friction). How much better, who knows?

There are also so many other variables here that it’s incredibly hard to compare - temperature, elevation, load, style of driving, drive mode, tire pressure, HVAC use, etc.

I agree that there are a ton of variables etc…just that 2 testers achieved similar results on their vehicles which were spec’d for the highest efficiency.

If my order, fully spec’d out with the 22/23 wheels, gets 350 miles, I’m a happy camper, because that’s where I anticipated it to land.
 
before my GDE died on my trip to palm springs, i did a trip from San Diego to downtown LA and back (230 miles) and hit 3.0kW/mile. That was at cruise control 75mph but also had traffic for about 20% of the trip each way. That's the absolute best I have hit for efficiency so far.

Just keep in mind that the EPA numbers are for mixed city and highway. If you’re doing 77 on a long road trip with the least efficient tires, you’ll want to temper your expectations a bit (or slow down to 65-70, or use less hvac, or take the more scenic (55mph) route).

I understand. I never pay much attention to the EPA numbers. I have access to charge every day/night. For me, range only matters for roadtrips, so I’m trying to get a good understanding of what my expectations should be.

I have a GDE 7 seater with the 20/21" wheels. EPA is 410. I think if I went 100%-0% at 3.0kw/m it would end up being right around 330 miles. And thats at 75 mph cruise control, hvac on, massage seats running etc. I dont think 350 would be attainable at 75mph.. 70 mph probably is doable.

It seems that anything greater than 70 sees a very meaningful drop off in range. No matter what EV you’re driving. If you’re going downhill for 350 miles, it might be attainable!

Moral of the story, they didn't test the 21/22s so you can only have your expectations exceeded:)

The interesting piece is you don’t actually get where you’re going THAT much faster if you average 75mph vs 65mph, but your range will be impacted significantly. You’ll go 10 miles farther per hour, I think. I am too lazy to do the math in range loss, and there’s not enough info yet for Gravity, but it’s bigger. So do you want to spend more time driving or charging?

300 x 120 =360 miles, pack is 121kw.
 
Yeah Air GT is 116kw, Gravity 121kw.

I think Gravity has a drag factor of almost 0.3, vs Air's drag factor is just under 0.2. Gravity also has a larger cross-sectional area pushing the air. These factors all add up to be sizable as you go faster.
