Lucid Air Cupholder NHTSA Complaint

An employee does.
My wife nixed a Lucid because of the cupholders and two of the Houston reps grumbled she wasn't the first. The cupholders are may not be a hazard but they are costing sales.

I waited for '27 Air release because I don't want black seats or handicapped Tesla charging. Bought Tesla Model Y Performance to tide me over. My wife has mow stolen that because of FSD. I tried Cayenne S EV but it is not worth $150k. Macan packaging is anti-Lucid.

I'm going to defend the posters concerns a bit.

Anything to do with car safety should be looked at closely.

Even silly things that people blame the driver for such as "heavy and overloaded key fobs that could accidentally shut your car off while driving and cause a crash" or "ill fitting or after market floor mats that could cause the accelerator to get stuck causing unintended accelerations."
Or, a hot cup of coffee spilling from your cup holder onto your lap while driving.

Better Lucid get on top of any safety concerns than it blowing up in some big news story if someone gets hurt.
This sort of zero personal responsibility thinking is absolutely maddening. The cup doesn't fit! If it spills on your lap, that is a lack of critical thinking skills problem, not a Lucid problem.

Here is a quick video of my car and cups :)
I have a Lucid studio on the first floor of my building. I took a bag of my mugs to the studio today to test :) The new Air still has the tight cup holders but they have fixed it in Gravity, which has slightly wider ones. The regional sales manager was at the store and acknowledged that this is a problem with Air. He used to drive an Air and had this problem and coffee spills. He said that Lucid has come up with an adapter for them but they block the lid for storage compartment and buttons on the screen, so he does not recommend them. Even the Lucid's own cup was a tight fit in Air.

I think this is a serious hazard that the company is aware of and should fix. Their own employees agree with it.
Maybe hit it with your purse.

Unfortunately, posting this here will likely do little more than bring out the brand loyalists. I find it fascinating how people feel compelled to defend a company that doesn’t even know they exist, simply because someone raises a concern that might reflect negatively on their beloved brand. We see this tribal mentality in so many areas of society today.

When I saw your post, my first thought was, “Good for you for actually doing something about an issue that bothers you.” It’s your prerogative to file a complaint, and I don’t understand why anyone would take personal offense to that. If anything, holding manufacturers accountable benefits all of us as consumers.

And for what it’s worth, I completely agree that the cup holders are poorly designed. They grip certain cups so tightly that removing them requires an unreasonable amount of force, and plenty of cups don’t fit at all.
This is the truth about internet. I hope some people will take action and Lucid will fix it. Everyone else, ignore.

We have three different cars in our household. Each has a slightly different cup holder. When it comes to cup holders (or cups for that matter) there simply is no standard. We address this by buying different cups for different cars. Problem solved, no government agencies involved.

It is true that the cup holder is smaller than many other manufacturers". My wife complained initially because her large Camry compliant tumbler did not fit. However, soda cans fit snugly and purchasing the Lucid Miir insulated flip cup introduced me to an amazing product that keeps the temperature better than any cup I've used before.
As others have pointed out, there are many tumblers/cups that will fit. A little inconceivable to me that someone would pass over a car based on cup holder size but everyone has their priorities...

I'm all for driver and passenger safety but this thread and comments are on par with powder coated tires for sale 🤣 Value and concerns are in the eye of the beholder... following for the humor.

Other than the obvious solution of buying cups and bottles that actually fit the holder, here's a $12 solution that I hope helps with safety before it becomes an expensive government intervention:

I hope we all learned as children that this does not work:
