Lucid Air 2.8.9

I eagerly install every update hoping for 2 features: improved mobile key and sentry mode. I think this update has improved the mobile key experience. Specifically, when I approach the rear trunk the car wakes up more reliably than before so I don't have to do any extra maneuvers just to get the trunk button to be functional. Seems to be a bit of an improvement in reliability and consistency of mobile key in general as well, but does still suffer occasionally from the overly aggressive locking even when still in very close proximity to the car and the occasional slow responsiveness of unlocking when approaching the vehicle from any direction necessitating the old "wake phone up in pocket" trick. But I think moving in the right direction!

Alas, still no sentry mode. Should I just give up on this feature by now?

Add me to the list of people experiencing less regen with version 2.8.7. 2025 Air Pure. I have also had the black screen two times so far. No prompt to update to 2.8.9 yet.

I think it’s by design because “smooth” mode definitely was not smooth it was clunky and the regen hurt its efficiency.

Driving on 2.8.9 since this am. Thus far, one notable (and positive) change: the stop and go function is much more usable and doesn't seem to disconnect the moment I sip my coffee (it used to stop working right away due to "face not recognized" error). Rest of minor bugs are the same.

First drive after update: all the sound was off in my car. Even the turn signals made no noise. I pulled over, rebooted, all worked fine. Anyone else experience this?

2.8.9 has made no difference in my 2023 Air Touring. Everything works just fine and I don't feel or see anything substantially different.

I've had this happen periodically (not update related) over the last year of owning the car. Less so after each subsequent update. I tend to do a full reboot after any update to avoid any of these wonky scenarios.

I do believe that the time is related on how fast is your Internet at home. I do a Fiber cable internet with 3gbs. So this update took 23 minutes only. Am I wrong about this ???
Me too I do have ccv2 for my 2023 Air Touring DD Pro.
I think you are wrong about this. The installation is not inclusive of the download itself which finishes before the car offers to install the newest version.

I was suspecting they made “Smooth” mode smoother with less regen braking than before, but I drove on Swift and Sprint on my way back home today and regen braking (set on high) is definitely weaker than before, one-pedal driving isn’t as consistent/possible as before 2.8.7. Also outside temperature was 80°F before anyone jumps in saying it might be cold weather related.
One other noticeable change that is probably related to reduced regen braking is the significant improvement in efficiency numbers, but changing the driving dynamics of a vehicle we’ve been driving for years without informing us or giving us the choice to go back to the higher regen braking settings isn’t the best decision. If a customer prefers weaker/smoother regen braking and improved efficiency, there’s an option for low regen, and such a change (or improvement in efficiency with lower regen braking settings) should’ve been communicated clearly with OTA release notes, while high regen settings should’ve been left as is for those who prefer it.

Took my first drive with 2.8.9 today in my '23 GT. Just a couple of hours, mostly highway. Only used smooth mode with standard regen. It seemed like less regen as others have noted but it's not something I could swear to.

Hands free driving seemed a little less spastic trying to stay in the lane. Hands free driving seems easier to engage. The hands free driving behavior that seemed different includes many many "hands free driving not available" followed 3 seconds later by hands free driving enabled, then back to not available, and back to enabled. This happened repeatedly over short stretches of highway. The other change was a pretty constant "keep your eyes on the road" message, even for a short glance away to check on traffic to the sides or back. This message seems much more frequent then before.

Didn't have much of a chance to test other things. Looking to hear what others have picked up on

They are kinda funky too with some of that stuff. Like “creep” is not at all how Tesla does it; which is to emulate an auto transmission ICE car. I prefer that. Tesla also does auto brake hold as an option, or double press like Mercedes to hold. Lucid should just copy that, it is the superior way to do it.

I have to agree with this. I have a standard route that I follow most weekdays, involving going on back roads with only stop signs, and never touch the brake pedal except for urgent/emergency stops. Starting with 2.8.7 I’ve had to hit the brake pedal more than once because the car didn’t stop before the stop sign in the distance that I remember from muscle memory. In parallel, I’ve also noticed a 15% or so efficiency drop, so much so that I’ve had to check whether I wasn’t accidentally in Swift mode when I was clearly in Smooth. My charge limit is set at 80%, I always drive on freeways in the 72-75 mph range, and temperatures are in the 65-75 F range.

Of course this is all quite minor but glad to see I’m not the only one experiencing this.
I like the high regen…wonder if it is technical issue they were trying to address by reducing regen

its not that simple

Sometimes I think if they released an ’update’ with absolutely nothing in it, there would still be 100 posts claiming this was improved and that was ruined. How much of what we think we experience is a placebo effect, especially after one poster says ‘xyz’ is now worse than it was prior.

I drive on Smooth with High Regen and there is a noticeable difference on the deceleration curve. Previously if you removed acceleration, the car would aggressively decelerate where you would feel the jerk of the motors slowing down. This morning, I did notice that the deceleration is smoother and takes a longer. When I got the car, there was big jump from Normal Regen to High Regen in terms of driving. It feels like they've smoothed out both curves to make the transition less aggressive. I almost want a third option now - Very High - which would be the original curve.

It's possible they made this change because there was some issue with the overly high regen. Could improve the life of the motors or maybe some of the electronic components.

I noticed that my hair is starting to grow back after the update, so I'm pretty happy about it.

I griped in another thread about how I lost all forms of “Driver Assist”, using 2.8.7, including basic cruise control. Subsequent to my bitching and moaning, I repeated the steering wheel button reset and on the drive following that second or third reset, all those functions came back.

Then I installed 2.8.9. And did the obligatory steering wheel button reset. The flashing red “Takeover Now!” ADAS-related warnings are now back, screaming, but not as frequently as before, and pushing the appropriate steering wheel buttons and scroll wheels brought them all back. Every time.

So for me, 2.8.9 appears to be two steps forward, one half-step back. I’ll be going back to my car late this evening, after I finish work. Before I start my 140 mile drive home, I’ll do another steering wheel reset. Maybe that will yet again, clear up all the flashing red warnings and the ADAS disconnects.

So against my better judgement I went ahead and installed 2.8.9 this morning ('25 AGT w/DDP, SSP). It was projected to take 1:50. Shortly after the update started, the car went offline according to the app. I checked the car and the update was proceeding normally. The next thing I know, the car is back online and the update is complete. The whole thing took about 30 mins. Update installed successfully. I'm curious about how little time the update took. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that I didn't seem to have any problems with the 2.8.7 update.

Could be but it seems strange to me to change the regen and thus driving characteristics of the car but make no mention of that in the release notes. Particularly if it's supposed to improve efficiency, since they would want to market that improvement. But I don't know how it's going to improve my efficiency since now I am using friction braking all the time, when I literally never used it before other than panic stops. It's true the deceleration pre-2.8.7 was aggressive but I got quite used to modulating the accelerator to make it smooth, while maximizing harnessing of the deceleration energy.

Given that it wasn't listed in the release notes, I would guess this was an unintended change. Maybe now the software is adjusting the regen braking too much at 80% charge versus how it used to...??
