It's too bad more automakers don't adopt the Ford method of a keypad built into the door. I LOVED that option, because you didn't have to be carrying anything with you, and you could give the PIN to someone else if you needed to let them in the car when you weren't there.

I too tend to take my wallet and phone out of my pocket and set it in the console when driving the car. I'm usually careful to grab them when getting out, but there could always be rare situation where I'm distracted and get out in a hurry for some reason. A keypad is the perfect backup. (In my Mach-E, they also added a few codes for things like opening the frunk from the keypad too.)

I do keep my fob in my pants pocket, so that's usually always on me, but I know many women often don't have pants pockets and keep fob/wallet/phone together in a purse that could still be sitting in the car.

There is a tendency in the forum to blame the owner when things like this happen. I don't like this victim shaming attitude much...

only few cars in the world offer you so many options to open; Fob (x2), card (x2) and App (xhow many cellphones around you)


+tip, call your partner and let him open the car from the App he has already downloaded :)

FWIW, this isn’t a workable solution for many, as they save their passwords in a password manager, as everyone should.

So this only works if you know your password, which you definitely shouldn’t. :)

I’m actually with you on this, but there is a grey line; sometimes, people lock their keys in their cars. It happens, no matter how much any manufacturer tries.

In this case, this definitely seems like a bug.

So I think people jump to conclusions too quickly in general here.

That’s definitely true re the keypad. My first car, a 2021 Ford Explorer Sport (with defective Firestone Wilderness AT tires and all) had that keypad. It was awesome!

My 4th grade teacher had a Mercury Cougar with the keypad, in 1984! We all thought it was like science fiction!
 
But would the keypad work on a Lucid? The Ford keypad was a FOB attached to the car that transmitted after the user entered the code.

I didn't realize it was wireless instead of wired, but I suppose that makes sense. It could probably be built either way, since the door has wiring being run to it.

Of course, Lucid surely didn't expect Gravity fob tech would be so flaky (again), so they probably would have made it wireless too.

If you do not want to carry anything with you as an emergency then you will be better off buying a tricycle 🤣 jk

It sounds to me someone wants to be trapped and this could happen to any car hhhh any car needs a key to open…. Unless Apple comes out with icar then you can use your faceID :)…. Cough cough ferrari luce

So I’ve been trying an experiment and so far at 40 minutes, I’ve left my key in the car (while at home) and with proximity unlock/lock enabled, the car has not locked the doors. I’m going to give it a full hour but it sounds like there is a bug in OP car, as Borski has been saying. The car apparently, should not lock itself with the key fob in it.
 
And at the 45 minute point, got a message from the app saying auto lock/unlock was disabled and the handles on the car retracted. Went to the car and pressed the door handles in and the car opened right up. Took my key out and walked back inside, car locked back up as normal.

Has anyone checked, OP, do you have the latest software on your Gravity and latest firmware on your key fob? Just want to eliminate areas that might be issue other than a bug on that particular car or key fob. I also know some key fobs, including my own, had to be replaced so that’s worth checking into as well.

It may depend on exactly where the key is inside the car. I know that the Air at least has a dead spot in the cupholders, where most people who leave keys in a car would do so.

Yes, while I was washing the car the fob inside went into sleep mode and the car locked me out.
....Just like I hope it would if I were sleeping in the car in some campground with drunks and tweakers wandering around at all hours of the night!

When I've been on the road and staying in smaller motels where the car is near the room I use a small faraday bag for the key, it's useful enough I keep one in my backpack with my laptop and travel stuff and an extra in the car just in case.

It was my Gravity, but I did leave it in the cupholder. The OP apparently had them in her purse which I guess was either in the chair, floor or center console as my wife does with hers. I don't know if Gravity has any dead spots...
 
I had a Tesla mobile service tech lock himself out of his Model S. He had to call roadside from my phone and have them remotely unlock the car. It’s not a Lucid only issue. As much as I may not want to blame the victim, we have to take some responsibility for what we do, or don’t do. I have a 6 year old myself and would never get out of the Gravity without my phone or keycard. But this is the same with my Teslas as well though. If you don’t set yourself up for something bad to happen it greatly decreases the chances something bad will happen.
