Keyfob software update notification

Today got Lucid notification to update the keyfob software. I ONLY used keyfob one time after bought gravity.

I suspect that many Gravity owners still having fob problems didn't update their fob software when 3.4.1 arrived. The email is a reminder to them.

Just got my car less than a month ago. I was surprised it needed an update. But it took less than a minute so maybe it did not actually update anything. I don’t recall the version number.

Could Lucid modify the app to display the version of the key FOB like they do for the current version of the vehicle software. I realize that it is fairly easy to have the FOB speak to my phone, however it seems like such an easy fix

I wondered the same. It seems like the phone app doesn't try to talk to the keyfob firmware (to check a version number) until you tell it to. Perhaps makes sense, so as not to drain the battery?

I had been also wondering about all the people still reporting keyfob problems when mine has been working flawlessly since January. The thought occurred that perhaps they didn't get the keyfob update or it didn't install correctly or they didn't pop the battery and reinsert it afterwards or ... something. Many of the problems reported are like we used to have in December.

Checked my key fob and it also has the latest firmware, 02.35.08. I always do this in the corner of my house furthest from the car. After the update, pop the battery and give it a few seconds before reinstalling it or a fresh one. I hope this works for folks still having key fob problems.

I assume it's battery related for sure. Also, the fob update was only added fairly recently and prior to that fobs would have had to go to service to be updated.

Got in the car and got a "low fob battery" message on the dash (it was last replaced 2 months ago, and the fob software updated then). Next day after the dash message the fob wouldn't work at all. Pulled the battery (measured 2.9v) and replaced it, and it works again, albeit with more delay than before. It used to present when I got just up to the car (like 3 feet away). Yesterday I had to stand there for 5 seconds. Checked for fob software update but it said it was already up to date. (That reminds me... I better order a 20-pack of fob batteries from Amazon today. Looks like I'll need to replace them monthly.)

Representative of so many nagging problems with this car. I'm not quite to the point of wishing I hadn't bought it, but it's getting there.

Try the "RetailDigitals" brand 2450s on Amazon - I replaced my battery in December when I got the Gravity and I'm still using the same one with no problems. I bought the 5 pack and still have 4 spare.

My key fobs were essentially nonfunctional for auto lock and unlock, and for frunk and trunk opening. Would work maybe 10% of the time. Both were on latest software and fresh batteries didn’t help. Car is in service now and they may replace both.

I just had a mobile service today.

The tech asked to update my key fobs.

I told him I just updated them, he mentioned that they have a newer version than what I can update from my app.

My key fob was working 90% of the time so I can't tell the difference yet.

The tech also give me two batteries as well.

I've updated my key fob to the latest version. The update went through just fine. The thing is just as unreliable as before, which is frustrating.

Many times, I'm literally next to the car, pressing buttons and the car completely ignores it. 10-20 seconds or so, it responds.

In decades of using key fobs, I'd never seen anything like that. Unbelievable levels of incompetence.

There was one time, about a month ago, when I started experiencing fob problems that many in this forum have posted about. It was problematic for a few days until I finally got around to buying a new battery and replacing it in my fob.

Since then, I’ve had no problems. Once in a while, the car doesn’t unlock by the time I get to it, but I can see from the screens that the car is still booting up. The fob is fine after the car wakes up.

Are you sure the new batteries are actually good? In the past, I had to throw away four “new” batteries that I purchased at the same time for an instant-read thermometer, as they were all dead. Note that a simple voltage test will only tell you if a battery is bad but not tell you that it’s good. Batteries must be tested under load to give you a true reading.

The only other thing I can think of is an actual hardware problem with either the fob or the car.

I suspect some batches of bad fobs, personally. Mine works perfectly, and my wife’s had issues occasionally.

I agree. And my Service advisor said there is a bulletin to replace a certain batch of fobs but they have to be tested at the service center.

For me, it progressively deteriorated since 3.5.1 - auto lock, then Auto Unlock, then trunk and frunk opening and closing. Strangely, there was ‘key fob not detected’ on occasion but that was rare compared to the other issues. And all of this was with repeated battery replacements and fob software up to date.

The loaner Gravity I have driven for the last week has had flawless key fob behavior, so I know it can be normal! And wow, it’s so nice to not have to worry about something you shouldn’t have to worry about. Lol.

So yeah, I think it’s the fob itself.

So do I. Many of us have gone through so many batteries so quickly that there's no way it's a coincidence. Dozens of us didn't just happen to buy bad replacement batteries.

Something in this thing is draining batteries fast. Fortunately it's an easy fix (buy a dozen batteries and replace them monthly). Hope I don't wear out the tabs cracking this thing open every month. Yet another thing to deal with. Just one more compromise from the "Compromise Nothing" brand. Constant battle with this car finding ways to get around/make up for things that should work normally.

In addition to it being a battery killer, it's slow. Every time I approach the car it's a last-second (at best) unlock. It's the type of thing you never have to think about in any other car. But in this car you have to think about it everytime -- pausing and watching and hoping the door handle presents, often having to stand and wait while your passengers stand there looking at you thinking "well, are you gonna open the damn door for me?". It's just another annoying thing. Long list.
