Apple car key vs Android digital car key: What's the difference?
There's one key distinction -- no pun intended.

Thanks! The article is slightly out of date; Google's Pixel 3 and later watches added UWB digital car key support early this year for its full list of dozens of car brands.Oops...
Well my key fob battery died today after only one month of having a Gravity DE. it started giving me "shake your key to wake it up" messages two days ago and today it was totally dead. There's obviously something very wrong with how the battery is used if it only lasts a month so hoping Lucid gets a SW fix out for that soon (and/or implements apple's digital key). Until then, for those interested the battery is a CR2450 Lithium 3V, which is a thick / weird size that seems to be only available online, so highly recommend getting some extras to keep around.
As others have noted, it now appears the batteries aren’t dying, the fob just has to be reset by removing the battery, etc. Just did this tonight and it’s fine.Done. Just bought some.
I got a 2 pack of the CR2450 at my local Batteries and Bulbs shop. 10 bucks for a pair…I wouldn't worry about the first battery dying, rather how long a fresh battery lasts for. Thanks for the info on the battery size. Ordered!
The card keys work well enough for valets parking my car in their garages… that is how Tesla has done it but also with a code secured valet mode that locks the areas of the car they have no business in and speed limits their driving. I hope Lucid gives us a codeable speed limit so we can lock the dangerous aspects of the car away from folks not ready to handle the power responsibly. Ie me and many teen drivers. That’s a really good point about letting others use the car. I agree with that. A fob is much easier than explaining how the keycard works.
I have too many other items in my pocket to easily fit the Gravity fob - iPhone, AirPods case, work fob, wallet, etc.
For personal use, I far prefer PaaK, but completely get the use case for a fob and hadn’t thought about that.
I have several Tesla Fobs in my junk drawer already. PaaK and cards is plenty especially when they work reliably. Nanny controls on the car for speed and such let us loan the car to folks who don’t normally drive a car with 1k HP. Most folks who haven’t been reasonably trained should not drive these. By the way, The fob should be fine without any battery when held over B pillar sensor or placed over card reader in console. NFC should make dead battery fob equal to card key.I always keep a keycard in my wallet even with PaaK. I had to use it for my Rivian a week ago when I was leaving work and realized my phone was dead…no phone, no PaaK. And they don’t have watch as a key (I really wish more folks did!). Lucid SHOULD work as watch as a key if they implement the Apple Car Key as they’ve said they will.
But I do hope to leave the fob in a drawer once PaaK comes out.
You’re right re: fob. It SHOULD do this, but mine did not act as the NFC key card when battery is removed. Just doesn’t do anything.I have several Tesla Fobs in my junk drawer already. I tested mine too… nfc not happyYou’re right re: fob. It SHOULD do this, but mine did not act as the NFC key card when battery is removed. Just doesn’t do anything.
Definitely have to carry the key card as the NFC back up.I tested mine too… nfc not happy
Well, that's just lame. And another hard to excuse lapse in Lucid's engineering judgement. I believe there's a video floating around of someone demonstrating the dead-battery functionality of the Air fob. So hopefully this is yet another software bug, and not that someone thought there was no need for the fob to still be usable when the battery is dead. My Toyota fob is smaller than the Gravity fob, and has both a backup mechanical key and a backup NFC key built into it. I know I'm just adding the broken record litany of fob complaints, but this shouldn't be rocket science to get right.Definitely have to carry the key card as the NFC back up.
I’m too lazy to look, but I believe the manual says it is supposed to work as an NFC key….Well, that's just lame. And another hard to excuse lapse in Lucid's engineering judgement. It does, under the key fob troubleshooting section on page 21 but I'm wondering if people have tried pressing the handle for 3 seconds too or just tapped the key.I’m too lazy to look, but I believe the manual says it is supposed to work as an NFC key….
This has never worked for me. I wonder if they accidentally forgot to put the NFC element in the fob.It does, under the key fob troubleshooting section on page 21 but I'm wondering if people have tried pressing the handle for 3 seconds too or just tapped the key.
"The key fob battery may need replacing; see Replacing the Key Fob Battery. If the key fob battery is depleted, you can still unlock the vehicle by holding the key fob near the driver's side enter pillar, (below the camera; the key fob should touch the pillar), then pressing the door handle for three seconds."
What brand? I don't have my Gravity yet, but I bought a six-pack of Duracell CR2450s.Maybe bad battery. I ordered a pack of cell batteries from Amazon while still well within the expiration date, they would only last a few weeks. Bought a different brand and those are fine
You should not use a CR2450 battery instead of the required CR2032 for a Lucid Air key fob, as they are different sizes (CR2450 is much larger) and will not fitI got a 2 pack of the CR2450 at my local Batteries and Bulbs shop. 10 bucks for a pair…
