Key fob battery gonna die soon?

S

Seems not all are active.
Borski, Bobby and others:

1 - Can you point out a picture of the inside of the key fob. (FYI - This method may not work if the fob is locked from use when in the car.)

2 - Does the mobile ap work from inside the car? ie - Can you lock, unlock the doors and trunk with the mobile key while sitting inside the car?

Thanks,

Yes, as long as the car isn’t driving. Tbh, I haven’t tested if you could do things with the API but not the mobile app; you could test this by using Home Assistant.

Thanks. Please elaborate: Are you talking about HA running on an SBC in the car and communicating with the car via Bluetooth and an API? That would be an intersting direction. THANKS!

Ha, no, I hadn’t thought of that. Interesting thought.

I meant simply that, while driving, the app won’t let you adjust climate or open the trunk, for example - for somewhat obvious reasons.

But I have no idea if that is simply hidden from you in the app in that state, or if the API has checks for it. Given that Home Assistant uses the API directly, you could test that and find out.

I just looked at HA and some user notes. Someone has already used the 'open the fob and parallel the switch' method. The HA green hub is similar in function to the old Android phone (Android 12 and above needed) in my diagram.

I have zero understanding of the car API. Can you please point me somewhere. If it has a car lock/unlock function, that would eliminate the need to open the key fob. Thanks again!

Great! I'll start studying. I somehow should have known that segbrk was involved. The last time I used github was to convert my ancient Schober Organ to Miidi and Grandorgue.

Thanks again - both of you.
Here are results from start of my research:

- I would need HA Green hardware to run in the carand be awake all of the time. But its not rated for high temp, and consumes 1.7 W at idle. An old Android 12 phone might be better
- You said elswhere that the 'Lucid mobile app talks to the internet via an API. Every time you tap a button, or every time it loads any information, it isn’t talking directly to your car. It talks to some Lucid servers on the internet which then, in turn, talk to your car, and report back those servers who then report back to you.' Woud that cause a lot of delay in a dooor open/close situation?

- I had hoped that HA would talk directly to the car view bluetooth.

I'm still thinking, but thanks to you and segbrk for all of this!!!

HA doesn’t need to be in the car, just online at home. It talks to the car using the API, so as long as both car and HA are on the internet, you’re good to go.

Nope. Via the internet.

But the new key fob would then need internet access. That would be no better than using the cellphone and lucid Ap, which I dont want to do.

My goal is a more reliable key fob.

Thanks again.

Yeah, true. I’m just brainstorming. :)

Lucid keeps changing my fob battery at yearly service, but I can vouch for at least 14 months and still going strong.

Are you using a Faraday bag? Lucid is not going to touch mine with a CR2477 soldered in.
