Is software better?

It's the Savage Geese video which someone just linked here for you, which you saw. Fairly recent video, but he did not have the latest software installed for that video. Some more of the issues have since been resolved (for most, if not all) concerning the key fob and a few others, but it's still a growing process for Lucid and in time, it will get better. I honestly think that if you have to ask, you are likely not ready for this experience of early adopter for a car. This is my fourth early adopter car and 3rd EV of them. It can be a sometimes frustrating and annoying process but also extremely rewarding too. It's not the life for everyone. You need to be a bit adventurous and willing to roll with the punches a bit. However it was over an hour long, he went into the factory, interviewed the top dogs, examined the partially built gravity, had extraordinarily detailed complex explanations of all the mechanics and engineering, took it onto a track and then public roads and after praising everything, ended with a complete downer about being afraid of being stranded therefore would not put his family in it.

Most have had bugs, which have been getting better, and the key fob issue appears to be gone (for most). That's the big one that can leave you in a lurch. Depends on how your wife tho and how she deals with issues like this. My wife would tod the keys back to me and walk away, but she is not a tech person or as adventurous as I am about things like this.
All that said, I think your car and wife would be fine, but we can't guarantee anything.

With the big caveat that I have only had my car for 5 days:

My car is not perfect but it has exceeded my expectations. I had one "key not recognized" error (the day after delivery, lol) but I was able to start the car with the keycard without incident. Resetting the fob the next morning cured the issue and it has not returned.

I still get random error messages frequently (rear steer not working, camera/sensors not working, etc) but they all seem "false" and none have impacted driving. My screens have not gone blank. Some things are odd - heat seems to come and go a little, I'm not always sure what the car is doing on exit (radio keeps playing, etc). But nothing that has really annoyed me or been more than just a weird "huh?"

I know others have been not remotely as lucky. But mine is so far, so good. If this is as bad as it gets then there's not much *for me* to complain about.

I am sensitive to others who have had bigger problems, so I don't want to come across as "hey the software is fine everyone, relax." I'm just giving you my single data point. I still think my wife would be like "why is it giving me a rear steer error that sounds terrible" and might be irritated with having to reset the AC fan, but for me I'm fine with what I've been getting.

Driving the car is fun as hell.

I'm on software rev 3.3.5 (I think - one of my bugs is that the car says 3.3.5 but my app says 3.3.2) and my delivery advisor swore I have the latest fob update, but who knows for sure. The fact that I got a key not detected error and had to reset the fob made me worry I was not on the latest updates, but the trouble free operation since leans in the other direction.

Yes, they have key cards as well, but some have had issues in the past with them as well. They just released another update, so we are hoping even more bugs are being squished. It shows that they are working HARD to make this right and know they messed up pretty big.

He said something along the lines of he wouldn’t recommend it to friends etc. in its current state because of the software. He also said he wouldn’t let his partner drive it either. Not a good look for Lucid tbh.

Overall, he said people should probably expect to wait 2 years for Lucid to sort its software woes out.

I don't know that his opinion about how long it will take Lucid to make software fixes is worth any more than my opinion, or yours.

While I think Mark was being a little bit obtuse about "not puting his significant other in a Lucid", you have to admit that the situation you described would never happen in a Mercedes or Porsche or BMW. Lucid is very willing to sell people a car with issues that they will fix later, at your inconvenience. I don't know if this is because they are under enourmous investor pressure, or because they truly will close the sale at any cost, but its not going to be a good reputation to have-especially when they don't have a 50 state repair center.

I wish you would link the review you are referring to so we could see what you are talking about. But there is a video review by Savage Geese that most members seem to think is quite fair.

It was fair on the day it was recorded... but a few days later it was outdated... the FOB bugs seem to be gone... the display and spurious error messages are getting handled today... so maybe the goose should take another gander at the current state of stability. I haven't needed to worry about the FOB lately, the other errors are fading away quickly and new software with things like Apple CarPlay are supposed to be on the way by year end.

I am now very pleased with my purchase... I bought a first release, Dream Edition knowing that I would get to try out an amazing new vehicle which inevitably comes with some rough edges. Having seen the frequency of releases lately I am convinced that I made a reasonable bet. The company is well backed and can likely withstand the storm of delivering Gravity and soon Midsize.

There are very few successful new car companies because they are very costly to create. The old guard automakers are falling back to their old positions re: EVs. Postpone, delay wait another 10 years... no way! Keep the faith! keep building better charger nets! Keep building great cars. I drove my flawed odd FOBbed machine to New Mexico and back to California. No regrets yet. Putting away my fob rescue kit in the glove box hoping I will never need it again... I am leery about the RDU problems... hoping that it can be remedied with only SW. If not... hopefully what ever is non optimal about the RDUs can be repaired and reused as refurbished, thoroughly tested replacement parts for the future cars with these issues. The car is state of the art of modern cars... not perfect yet... pushing limitations is always tricky but it feels like progress is happening. These cars are wonderful to drive and becoming less dodgy as daily drivers by the minute.
