Install tow hitch after delivery

I found a vehicle in the inventory but it does not have tow package. Any idea if tow package can be added after delivery or is it possible to install the tow hitch after delivery? I asked my SA but did not hear back. My main reason for tow hitch is to use a bike rack.
 
I was told by my SA that in teh future there will be a tow hitch package available to purchase for install at a service center. Was the reason i decided to grab an inventory one without it for now.
 
My SA got back saying its not possible to add towing later.
 
Tow hitch and tow package are likely 2 different things

I’d be surprised if you couldn’t buy the tow hitch separately at a later date so that you can install a bike rack.

But the tow package requires wiring for a trailer etc.

Can anyone clarify?

It's possible, though unlikely, that the wiring harness for the towing package would be very difficult to install. You'd also have to get them to enable it in the software (does Lucid make the service tools available to customers?).
The rear diffuser might not have the hole to install the hitch, so that might need to be replaced. I'm sure the tow bar itself could be installed.
Note that the maximum bike rack weight is 119lbs, it's possible someone will make a stronger aftermarket one at some point.
 
It would be an asinine design decision to make the tow package, including harness, a factory build option only without provisions to add later. In a class of vehicle where it is either standard, or a factory option or after delivery option, to seal its fate at the factory is unexaplainable.

You offer it as a factory option for lower cost and convenience but certainly make it available afterwards.

Now, i am not saying that isn;t what they did here, but it would be hard to understand that decision.

One SA is right and one SA is wrong. Not uncommon in this phase of an early auto company, or any product for that matter. But, it doesn’t;t have to be this way. That is an easily communicable point.
 
Sorry, i got a little emotional because i am not good at dealing with uncertainty when there shouldn’t be. I love this car but the list of questions that should be known entities frustrated me a little bit.

I violated my personal rule of posting opinion without supporting facts so i went out and looked at the car. There is a cover where a hitch could be. If you were going to have a separate fender for a hitch version, that hole would not be there. Removing the hole shows two giant unused power wires and a wiring harness bracket that sure looks to me like it has a filler plug in place of where a harness for towing would be inserted.

So, i believe the wiring is there for the package, so i am going to continue to believe it should be addressable once Lucid trains the service centers to do the install and makes the package available.

Note however i have not seen a gravity with teh hitch, so i do not know what is there when you have teh package installed.

Just because they're putting the wiring and access panel in now doesn't mean they don't plan to remove it in the future.
 
That’s completely possible, but communicate what the plan is. Either say no you cannot do it, but some early model can, or yes we plan to offer it as a service option.

I don’t know how the attachment rings for the safety chains are attached to the car, but if they’re welded, that might be one reason.

I have no idea though.

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying.
 
no, i would not expect the receiver to be included, but i expect to be “addable” by a service visit. The safety chains will attach to the left and right of your receiver.

@borski is it possible to get a picture of what is to the left (toward the driver side door) of the 7 pin connector box and also see what your 2 power wires are connected to on the right? I suspect the 7 pin box is connected to the harness where i have a plug and i don’t quite know what the power lines connect to.

Assuming I remember to do so, I'll do that. But maybe someone else gets to it before me.

Those are the jump start connections you use if the 12V batteries are dead. I guess that means there will always be an access panel there.

I've seen somewhere an X-ray drawing of the hitch attachment. It's a wide steel piece that bolts onto the rear frame members and lives inside the bumper cover.

The chain attachment points and the receiver attachment point would both be welded to that piece.

So installation of one afterwards would require disassembly of the rear bumper.
 
Was able to escalate this question above the SA team to service personnel and was assured that a tow package install after delivery at a service center will be offered. Likely not until early next year, but getting an inventory gravity without towing package does not preclude you from adding it later one day.

This makes sense. It is very similar to other makes. Order it with the car and it shows up preinstalled at delivery and a little cheaper, or get it after with some added install cost and the minor inconvenience of taking it in for a day.
 
What is the max tongue weight? I’m seeing conflicting data between 150 lbs and 600 lbs.
