Lucid Grand Touring
Our Stellar White Air Grand Touring was delivered to our home in McKinkeyville at 8:00pm on July 31, 2025 via enclosed trailer. McKinleyville is about 300 miles north of Milbrae, CA. I ordered our White AGT with Aluminum roof, 19” wheels, Mojave PurLuxe Leather Alternative, 20-way seats and DreamDrive Pro on May 16, 2025. First day of “In Production” was July 16. First day of “Preparing for Delivery” was July 24. The Air replaces a 2015 Chevy Volt that we are in the process of selling. My wife and I also own a 2000 MBZ SL500, 2010 Smart Fortwo, and a 2017 Volvo XC90. Some might say we have too many cars.

We chose white because we didn’t like any of the other colors and didn’t want to pay extra for a color we didn’t like in the first place. We chose the aluminum roof because we once owned a Smart Fortwo with a clear plastic roof and didn’t like the heat build up. We chose the 19” Aero Range wheels to get the most range. Chose Mojave PurLuxe Leather Alternative because we object to different color upholstery front and back and didn’t want to pay extra for leather. Otherwise we would have chosen the Santa Cruz interior. Chose DreamDrive Pro because we have the Pilot Assist lane keeping option on the Volvo and are happy with it. Our Volvo has the head-up display, which we love. Wish we could’ve gotten a head-up display in the Air.

We have been charging the Chevy Volt with a 20 Amp Clipper Creek EVSE that has a NEMA 6-50 plug instead of the more “standard” NEMA 14-50 plug. I will be upgrading this to a 40 Amp Grizzl-e EVSE. Unfortunately, I will have to downgrade the Amperage to 32 because the existing wiring can only handle 32 Amps continuously (has a 40 Amp breaker). I am very disappointed that the Lucid Mobile charging cable cannot be set to 32 Amps and does not support the NEMA 6-50 plug.

Congrats! Check that your 6-50 receptacle is an industrial/commercial version rated for carrying continuous current. Its round face will be about 2.44" in diameter if so. If the face is closer to 2.1 inches, it's a residential receptacle that isn't safe for EV charging. Its not expensive to have it replaced with an EV-rated receptacle.

The 6-50 receptacle is made by Legrand - Pass & Seymour and measures 2” in diameter. When I Google it, I see it referred to as commercial grade. I’m not sure a larger receptacle would fit in the electrical box. The electrical box and 8 gauge wire were installed in the garage at the time the house was built in 2004 at a location that only makes sense for a car charger. I paid a professional electrician to install this receptacle to match the EVSE I already had. He certainly knew it was intended for charging an electric vehicle. It has been in use for over four years charging my Chevy Volt without a problem. Admittedly, the Volt only draws 15 Amps versus the 32 Amps the Air will draw. If it means anything, significant force is required to install/remove this plug and the witness marks on the prongs are 3/8” long. I normally leave the EVSE plugged into the NEMA receptacle; I have no reason to unplug it.

I noticed that when the car is locked, the J1772 plug is locked in place and cannot be removed. You must unlock the car to remove it. That was not true of my Chevy Volt.

Electrician awareness of EV charging safety has progressed rapidly in the past few years after a number of melted/burned receptacles.

You probably have this: https://www.legrand.us/wiring-devic...-single-flush-receptacle-2-pole-3-wire/p/3804

You want this instead: https://www.hubbell.com/bryant/en/p...re-grounding-6-50r-black-single-pack/p/167269

Like other continuous-duty 240V receptacles, it fits in a double-gang deep junction box.

Most EVs now lock the charge cable when the car is locked. I think It's possible to leave your Air unlocked in the garage for charging etc, but I haven't tried.

Congrats on your new Lucid!
I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong but the new (yet unreleased) update 2.8.0 allows you to set custom charging rates. So it is (will be) possible to use the Lucid mobile charging EVSE.
