Thanks for posting and clarifying.
Ah, gotcha. That’s entirely possible; I only meant as it currently stands. Thanks for posting and clarifying.
Yes, but…this was updated fairly recently and they did change some parts of it. I remember you posted something similar in another thread.
It’s very clear now (to me), but it was not several months ago.
I’ve inquired about this multiple times and the answer so far has been that it is not possible to go from DD2 base to Premium. Apparently it’s not just a SW change but actually has HW differences. It would be great if that turns out to be incorrect but my service center hasn't changed their story yet.Did anyone get a confirmation on this? I just put a deposit on a GGT that has the base Dream Drive 2, because the manager of the San Diego office said that on delivery we can just pay the upgrade cost for DD2 Premium and the service dept can activate the software.
Thank you, looks like I may have to change my order then from an on-site purchase. The location manager swore up and down, and even left the room to "confirm the price and ability"I’ve inquired about this multiple times and the answer so far has been that it is not possible to go from DD2 base to Premium. I would love for the upgrade path to be true (still secretly hoping it “becomes” available). That’s the one upgrade I regret not getting thinking it would/should be a software update option.Thank you, looks like I may have to change my order then from an on-site purchase. I would not trust the manager or SA’s word. But what you want as Lucid has been 100% silent on this and there are no indications you can upgrade and if you can’t, you’ll be SOL. Many folks here have trusted something someone from Lucid said and been disappointed. Communication is very hard right now.Thank you, looks like I may have to change my order then from an on-site purchase. That's the boat I'm in too. I passed on buying the more expensive DD choices because I had no interest in hands-free driving or auto-parking. I remember wavering when I saw 3D View listed because that's nice for parking, but at +$1500 I ultimately decided to pass. What I didn't realize was that "Blind Spot Display" was the actual camera view instead of just some warning light. The actual camera view adds some additional value. As does see-thru display. I just didn't fully understand what those were at the time.I would love for the upgrade path to be true (still secretly hoping it “becomes” available). Our car has been in for service multiple times and I've inquired with them several times and each time the answer has been "No". But, I've not gone the Customer Care route so it will be interesting to know what they say if you make the inquiry. Please post what you find out. That's the boat I'm in too. I also wasn't thinking about the charge port being in the rear and how I would be backing in more than I realized. That's where the extra camera views can help more.
Does anyone know if Automatic Park In/Out means more than just parallel parking (i.e. does it work in straight-in parking like an EA or SC station)? Anyone tried that yet?
I saw someone on X say that you can have service do the upgrade from DD2 (base) to DD2 Premium, for the same price as it would be on a new car order ($1500). So I just emailed my SA to ask and he said Yes as well, and to contact Customer Care to schedule it. I haven't called then to verify yet, but I may. Anyone else tried yet?
My complete guess is it’s just the LiDAR that’s different in DDPro. LidDAR is still expensive, hence the big price difference.I called Customer Care today. At first the guy said no, I couldn't upgrade from DD2 (base) to DD2 Premium. Car doesn't have the hardware.
But then he txt'd me 5 minutes later and asked me to look in the app to see if it showed any upgrades available under Vehicle Info (there's not). Then he txt'd back again saying he talked with his team and they CAN add it, it just has to be done at a service center. I asked if it's the same price ($1500) as it would have been on order, and he said yes. The Denver service center is supposed to contact me in 24-48 hours.
So it sounds promising. I won't take it as a guarantee until it's all done, but we'll see. I think the confusion was in just looking at whether it's a readily available upgrade that only takes a software change, vs something that takes a hardware change. They probably just look at the former on first glance, which is why the answer is often No. But in this case, the hardware changes must be manageable. I thought I saw somewhere a few weeks ago that each of the DD2 levels has more cameras/sensors than the one below it, but I can't remember where I read that now. Perhaps they have the wiring/computing infrastructure in place to handle all 3, but it's just a matter of installing the few extra missing cameras/sensors? Then activating it in the software. Just my guess.
Anyway, I'll try to remember to report back as more happens.
Could be, it was just my guess. Hope you're right as that would be even simpler if there's no hardware changes, just software that has to be loaded in the shop because they don't have an OTA process set up for such a rare occurrence. Would mean they don't have to take anything apart. My complete guess is it’s just the LiDAR that’s different in DDPro. LidDAR is still expensive, hence the big price difference.
They probably need to manually update the software, but I would be shocked if there were any other hardware differences.
Thanks for following up on this @dbsb3233. Very interested to hear what the service center says.Could be, it was just my guess. I see 4 exterior cameras on mine (front, rear, both folding mirrors), and 12 bumper sensors. Plus whatever's in the front sensor housing on the frunk, in the windshield, and the interior stuff. I could be missing some though. Not sure if anyone else spots any more on the outside for Premium or Pro.
hmmm...seemed clear to me when I ordered.
I passed on the DD2 Premium upgrade when ordering, and that's on me for not digging deeper. But at the same time, Lucid could make the differences a little clearer. For instance, it says "3D View" but then "Blind Spot Display". The use of different terms made me think "view" was a camera while "display" was something different (like an animation or something). I never use auto-park in my other vehicles (and like you I hate hands-free driving) so the only meaningful part to Premium looked like 3D, and I waffled on $1500 just for that (when already up to a whopping $108k).hmmm...seemed clear to me when I ordered.
I must have read the descriptions in the configurator at least 20x to be sure the only reason I want DDPrem was the blind spot cams and aerial view to aid in parking.
BTW the new transparent car feature seems way cool!
I've expressed my disdain for FSD elsewhere on this forum but suffice it to say I had no interest in DDPro
My understanding from talking to SA's was that Lidar hardware was the big difference w/ DDPro but not sure if there's also HW differences between DD & DDPrem?
Makes a ton of sense. Allows them to charge as a subscription in future.I just called the Chicago service center (they do the scheduling for Denver since it's not a fully standalone service center yet) to schedule the upgrade from DD2 (standard) to DD2 Premium. The guy said they just got the memo yesterday that Lucid is going to make that an OTA upgrade option instead. Hardware is all there, it's just a software change. No timeline though. He said hopefully a month, but that's just a guess. (Probably mean it'll be 5 months.)
Apparently any optional upgrades will be shown in the app under VEHICLE INFO via an UPGRADES button (doesn't appear in mine yet).
