I'm a new owner of a 2027 Gravity Touring and have been surprised by how loud the pedestrian warning system is inside the cabin.

I've spent some time characterizing it:
- 1–10 MPH: Essentially inaudible inside with windows closed. Heard with the windows fully open.
- 10–17 MPH: Progressivly noticeable inside the cabin.
- 17–22 MPH: Extremely prominent, to the point that normal music or podcasts don't mask it. My commute has me in this speed range regularly. :-(
- Above 22 MPH: Sound cuts off completely.
The abrupt cutoff makes it relatively easy to distinguish from tire or drivetrain noise. My understanding is that FMVSS 141 requires pedestrian warning sounds at speeds up to 30 km/h (18.6 MPH), so unfortunate that the system continues operating until approximately 22 MPH. More importantly, I'm surprised by how much of the sound enters the passenger compartment, particularly just before it shuts off.

One of my windshield wiper blades was installed incorrectly, so the car needed service shortly after delivery. I took the Lucid technician for a ride, and he acknowledged that the noise was objectionable. He suggested contacting customer service and mentioned that covering the speaker openings underneath the vehicle might reduce the noise.

I'm curious whether other Gravity owners experience the same thing, particularly the dramatic increase in volume between 17 and 22 MPH. Has anyone received an explanation or solution from Lucid? Searcing here i didn't come across much info.

Not sure but consider that the faster you go the less time to address any issues. So it becomes more strident as the speed go up and it wants you to do something now.
My conjecture.

Do you have the comfort package? It comes with acoustic glass, which suppresses more outside noise. I have it and I barely notice the pedestrian sound from inside. Haven’t tried a car without it to say for sure that’s the difference though.

hmmm...as a healthcare professional and a guy that had my leg crushed against a fence by a car and spent 28days in the hospital some years back I'd hope the pedestrian warning sound is as friggin' loud as it needs to be to get ppl's dang attn...vehicle vs pedestrian collisions are never pretty!

I DO NOT have that level of sound. Certainly have sounds and the same cutoff speed, but nothing as objectionable.

My Air is like that, loud until 22mph then cuts off. Can’t do anything about it. It’s very loud at drive through as well, but if you put it in Park the sound stops so I just do that. It’s just unrefined. I have a Tesla and a BMW i7 and both of them are much more refined in their sounds and when they play it.

Yeah I always thought it a little odd that Lucid emits the tone while stationary in Drive. Reverse makes sense; someone in Reverse is actively trying to move the vehicle at that moment. But Drive? Waiting at a traffic light? Sitting in a drive-thru? I like the sound itself, and how the frequency changes with speed. But I do think it should fade to silent when stopped, and when exceeding 22 mph.

I guess we should just be glad there isn't any "beeping/dinging" like Ford Hybrids/EVs.

Our LEAF starts emitting the ped warning as soon as you put it in drive. When we first bought the vehicle, I found it annoying because I wanted a "silent EV." I'm now used to it and it's basically background noise. Putting the LEAF in reverse emits a <beep><beep><beep> similar to a reversing commercial vehicle, but it's at a reasonable frequency and amplitude and not too annoying. I actually appreciate that feature.

Oddly, I don't recall the Air Touring I test drove on three separate occasions ever emitting a ped warning when I had it in drive. (Perhaps I was too excited to notice!)

I would absolutely lose my mind at this. Unacceptabe!
Play this on loop when you go to bed tonight. In the morning, the van will be waiting for you. (You're not allowed to bring any sharp objects with you.)
