Gravity-curious conversations

I don't think I've seen a thread like this, but I wanted to see, now with increasing numbers of Gravity owners (but still a pretty rare occurrence in the wild), what kinds of convos y'all are having with curious onlookers.

Like today, a Rivian R1S owner flagged me down in the parking lot while I was picking up my kids, and asked how it drove; he was thinking of giving up his six-month old R1S since it's been in the shop 7× during that time and he only gets ~2 mi/kWh out of the thing. I was honest w/ him about some of the software issues, the latest 3.3.20 firmware that improved a lot of stuff, and that it *does* drive very well and is great for hauling kids around.

Would love to hear others' stories when interacting with the Gravity-curious.

In the 6 months I’ve owned it I’ve probably had 3 people ask about it. Many people look when driving but hardly anyone has come up to ask about it.

More people asked me about the Air when I had it.

Yeah, plenty of looks as well, but I've had maybe 5–6 people ask about the car in my 3 months with it. Plenty of friends and family too, though they usually ask why I chose to go with a brand they've never heard of.

I got stopped in the grocery store parking lot when loading the frunk with groceries by someone asking about EVs and how in theory an SUV would be way cheaper without a big engine in the front

But yes ultimately, it's an SUV, so a dime a dozen, it's just not as cool as the Air which I got stopped a lot more and commented on the looks (Air looks better than Gravity IMO).

When driving at night people often flash high beams at me. I wonder if they like Gravity's spaceship like front side luminance, or hate being blinded by my "low beams".
But most people who are curious enough to ask a question usually ask "who makes it?" because it's not a recognizable name.
One guy thought it was a Maserati because I have a small Ukrainian trident sticker in the back and he thought it was a Maserati trident

If people are often flashing their lights at your your headlights may need alignment/calibration; check with service.

In theory, if your headlights our out of calibration, there will be an malfunction indicator on the instrument panel. I say "in theory" because the owner's manual is filled with theoretical behavior, though it is becoming more accurate with each and every software patch.

As a person sometimes blinded by oncoming traffic, I feel that the design trend of moving low beam lighting lower down the front of the car makes the headlight upper cutoff even more critical. If you think of a high mounted headlight (think Audi Q8), the beam is pointed (albeit ever so slightly) downward, from the leading edge of the hood down to the road. With newer designs, such as the Macan electric or the Gravity, low beam lights are mounted midlevel, closer to the middle of the front bumper. Accordingly, the light is aimed straight out, instead of "down". Makes "aiming" a headlight for maximum effectiveness so much more critical.

Of course, at my age, what the hell do I know! I'm just glad to be in a forum with like-minded people on the cutting edge of automotive technology. Dream Forward!
