Gravity build quality impressions?

I wonder about this. The Miami Service Center is in a busy downtown location with zero parking for customers or cars waiting for service. They lease space for both in a garage a block away (and customers have to pay to park there). If a car needs a series of repairs, as mine have, they have to get shuttled to and from the garage for each step, as there is no room to hold them in the Service Center. (I know this because I have been erroneously billed storage fees by the parking garage for finding my car parked outside Lucid's leased space, and Lucid had to intervene.)

And there are many other issues associated with doing work in any Service Center that should have been done at the factory: necessary tooling is not always on hand (I've encountered this); repairs that require two techs, such as dashboard removal, sometimes have to wait prolonged periods in Service Centers for two techs to become free for a lengthy job (I've encountered this); shipping parts from the factory for certain repairs is expensive time- and transport-wise (I've encountered this), sometimes repairs have to wait for a Lucid specialist who "travels the circuit" of Service Centers to arrive (I've encountered this), etc.

Letting cars with easily knowable manufacturing / assembly defects leave the factory strikes me as a very poor business practice on many fronts .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Issues like this show how much operational planning matters in any industry. Whether it’s automotive service or companies like PUNIN GROUP hiring for cosmetologist jobs, infrastructure and organization directly affect both customer experience and staff efficiency.
Yeah, that sounds like a mess. If these are things that could’ve been caught at the factory, customers really shouldn’t be dealing with all that extra hassle at the service center.

Aside from the second row squeak, build
quality is FAR better than our 2022 X and 2023 R1S.

We also have a 2026 R1S and that has been MUCH improved over the 2023 R1S.

Generally, for EVs, I’ve found Teslas are just crappy build quality.

Haven’t driven an ICE other than rental car in over 10 years and am not a buyer of an EV unless it’s from an EV only manufacturer, so can’t speak to German cars, etc.

Agree that Gravity's build quality is far better than Model X's. However, tbf, the Model Y's build quality is better than the Model X's as well.

Our Gravity is squeak free. We hardly ever move the second row seats, though. I'd give it a B+ in terms of panel gaps, but then I'm pretty picky, having once worked at an OEM where a QA engineer walked me partially through a Bentley vehicle benchmarking exercise.

I remember in the pre-Model 3 days Musk once talked about build tolerances for Tesla's to be measured in thousandths of an inch. More recently, he said CyberTrucks needed to be built to "single-digit micron tolerances." Needless to say, he had no idea what he was talking about, and no Tesla is built anywhere near that well. Heck, temperature changes will cause double-digit micron changes in dimensions!

Comparing a large multi-component thing like a vehicle to a lego block is quite absurd, and shows Musk doesn't understand material science nor production realities.

Good god then just how bad is it? Because I own a Model Y and the build quality is crap!

Really depends on the generation but the X hasn't been refreshed in years and the build quality wasn't great. The newer refreshed 3/Y seem to have better build quality to me. I'm in a new M3 rental right now and it does seem better than previous Teslas I've driven. I had a rental EQS but swapped it yesterday because the EQS had some problem with the passenger front end, every time I took a sharp right turn it was making a screeching and/or grinding noise loud enough that when it happened in a busy parking lot everyone stopped to look. I took the 3 because their other choices sucked.

With Musk it's very difficult to tell when he's saying something because he's ignorant, or because he's engaging in his relentless hype campaign. I suppose both at once is also possible.
It’s not ignorance, but arrogance, imho. He was once an insatiably curious man, which is what made him a success; he’s no longer curious, and now believes he knows all the things. That’s what has set him back.

In short: a lack of curiosity and humility.

I don’t think he’s ignorant. I think he thinks he’s omniscient, at this point.

We got a new "Juniper" Model Y around the same time as the Gravity, and while the Gravity is obviously nicer with better materials, the Model 3/Y refreshes have come a long way in niceties, solid design and materials all around.

Problem is that it’s a Tesla. I just can’t anymore with them.
