Gravity Bugs / Issues

quite literally tried 10 clicks out of frustration and nada

I wonder if they could give us a setting for the sensitivity of the thumb pads. It could let folks set it to be more or less so and in doing give folks a place to test them and figure out for themselves that edge pushes aren’t counted. If they were you couldn’t steer without unintentionally activating things.

@NovemberLima, Pretty sure I put Fob in a faraday bag at time of delivery and tested entry and key card recognition in center console. 5 days after delivery key card not recognized in center console and center console charging pad not able to charge phone. Perhaps power connection loose.

it's really an unfortunate design. most people (logically) think the edges of the pad are of a click type, they are not. it's a very tiny set of capactive "hit points" between the 4 notches at the edges and the center dot. it can be learned with muscle memory but it takes some time.

I'm not defending Lucid at all with this post.
My point is one that has been stated several times on the forum:
Gen 1 ev from a fairly new company? Expect some bugs. Manage your expectations.

This isn't unique to Lucid, but also doesn't let Lucid off the hook.

The video below showed up in my feed this morning.
It is just another example of automotive sw challenges.
Longstanding sw issues with Gen 1 Rivians.
If anything, I hope it isn't a video that will be replicated in a year or two about Gen 1 Gravities.
Perhaps it gives some perspective to the opinion that Lucid's sw team just doesn't know what they're doing.

Sorry I have a Gen 1 Rivian R1T and I had a 2017 Tesla Model S, 100D. Lucid's software team definitely doesn't know what it is doing. I get a different experience every time I attempt to drive my Gravity. This is not confidence inspiring.

A small note regarding key cards not working to start the car. My DE was built at the end of September and I took delivery in late October, for what that's worth. I thought I tested everything at delivery as I was already worried about the keys before I picked it up, but I might not have tested starting the vehicle with no key fobs nearby. Anyway, I discovered this a few weeks ago when my key fob didn't work (was a dead battery in the fob) and my keycard would unlock the car but not be recognized on the center console. I scheduled service and since I'm not near a service center a mobile tech ordered a replacement for the console tray that has the card reader/phone charger and he came out last week to replace it. He spent hours taking it all apart got the new one in, only to find that one didn't work either. Only then did he discover after more research that there was a stop put on those parts and they've discovered some big batch of them have faulty readers on them. It wasn't clear whether this is why my original one wasn't working or not, but sounds like it might affect other recent posters here. Hopefully they will have working ones available for techs to install in the next few weeks, and from another thread it looks like maybe an imminent software update will allow the car to start within 2 minutes after being unlocked so that would be another workaround.
Thanks for sharing, I’ll see if l can save my tech the trouble

No need to apologize.
I'm not looking for agreement or confirmation.

Based on that video and the related Reddit posts, there are plenty of Gen 1 Rivian owners who would disagree with you. They're on Reddit. Apparently they also have been getting a different experience every time.

Just as there are Lucid owners who would disagree with you; me for one. I'm confident in Lucid sw team and believe they know what they're doing or I wouldn't have done the deal.

Help! I picked up my Gravity yesterday. Major problem: Key cards do not work. Has anyone else experienced this? This is disconcerting as the Gravity is issued with only one Key Fob and it is not yet set up to be driven with the phone app and a code.
As others have said, it’s a known issue and there’s a service bulletin about it. They should’ve checked it at PDI. They can replace the tray.

A new screen greeted me today, see photo. The car was plugged in this morning when I turned climate on and it had been running for some time, maybe 10 minutes or so. I unplugged the car and got in to see an odd looking screen. Looks like some kind of safe mode startup or something on the top screen and a black pilot panel.

Oddly, it took 4 tries to do a soft reboot. I know you need to push the brake pretty hard, so believe me, I was mashing it especially after the first failure. It was a relief when I finally got the “release to reboot” message.

Anyone else seen this one before?

PS: oh look a blue oval lol

I'd send it in for service. At a minimum they should be able to fix the left pad, and it's reasonable to tell them that you're concerned about the vehicle being safe to drive given all the other glitches.
Thanks. We have a service appointment in early January for the pad to be replaced. It has become a "known issue" now so the pads are being retrofitted/improved. We wait until they are in to take it to service. We have our running list of other problems for them to look at.

I may be able to add some insight to the "sensors blocked" and resulting "High beam assist unavailable". I've had this happen to me a few times now and it seems to be caused by bright car headlights (either oncoming traffic or behind me--including at stoplights)...also if there's any fog on the window or outside (or if the window is dirty), that seems to exacerbate the issue. The alert seems to resolve within about a minute of the offending headlights no longer shining into the cameras. All that being said, I think the car is actually functioning correctly as intended in this situation.
This is not our case with the alerts. They have been during the day for the most part and haven't had any fog in DC. There aren't any obvious outside factors that would cause this.

too late for me to edit, but now that I am looking at it it looks like it didn't come out of the charging screen.

I have all of these except eventually car connect to LTE. The passenger front seat airbag sensor is sensitive. The passenger n er really had to have their full bottom on the seat. If they shift it thinks no one is there and turns off. I think it’s working as intended, but just quite sensitive.

I don’t get black screens too often.

But - why you’re describing with respect to bugs getting worse over time IS something I notice. The OTA does a great job for a while and then performance degrades. Strange.
We have the airbag problem for our front passenger seat too. I notice it when my teen daughter is in the seat. Does this mean that the airbag really isn't available when if the sensor doesn't believe someone is sitting there? That's a serious safety concern if so.

If you are a regular reader, you know we have to get our left pad replaced. Last night we had a major software hiccup and I called customer care to see if there is a way for them to reboot remotely since we can't do that with a malfunctioning left pad. And as the representative had me try again to do a reboot - which I knew wouldn't work - I noticed for the first time that the left pad symbols are not lit up while the right ones are. So that may be the way to know if your pads have stopped working completely. Also fwiw the major software hiccup started after I heard a loud creak/groan in the car when I got in to drive. I don't think it was a coincidence because we haven't had that sound before nor have we had the hiccups we had last night. They did clear after the car was asleep for a bit.

When you say lit up, do you mean the 2 buttons below the pads? Or are there symbols lit up on the pads themselves? I’m out of town, so not able to look at them. If un-lit buttons are a sign of pad failure, this would be a good thing for everyone to examine in a dark garage or at night. I find my pads and buttons responsive sometimes, and sometimes not.

I'm wondering if some of these sw issues are not being caused by grounding issues? Spent many long hours chasing what everyone thought was crappy sw, in a large integration to discover a series of grounding issues in the interconnects would randomly nuke some sw actions. Finally came down to finding a ground point that wasn't at ground potential in just one part of the facility. Took weeks to find.
