Gravity Bugs / Issues

I'm not defending Lucid at all with this post.
My point is one that has been stated several times on the forum:
Gen 1 ev from a fairly new company? Expect some bugs. Manage your expectations.

This isn't unique to Lucid, but also doesn't let Lucid off the hook.

The video below showed up in my feed this morning.
It is just another example of automotive sw challenges.
Longstanding sw issues with Gen 1 Rivians.
If anything, I hope it isn't a video that will be replicated in a year or two about Gen 1 Gravities.
Perhaps it gives some perspective to the opinion that Lucid's sw team just doesn't know what they're doing.

I have been following all the reported bugs in this thread, and I have experienced all of them.

I have had the car for 40 days and driven ~1100 miles. If I was diligent about reporting all the bugs,
I would have called Lucid service 20-25 times already.

So far I have been too busy, and just hoping "this is a SW bug which will get fixed soon."
It is possible that there are HW bugs too, and I am just ignoring them because the SW is so buggy
that it is hard to pinpoint a HW bug.

I am thinking that Lucid's QA team definitely knows about these bugs (and perhaps more)
and they decided to ship the vehicles anyway. Really disappointing.
The software teams are not actually in charge of anything except getting as many bugs fixed asap. We used to have a category called… stoppers… things you couldn't ship it with… but the upper mgmt can always override what is called a stopper. Of course the QA team knows… This may be why some execs may have departed. Let’s hope they still have key folks in SW coding so the can quickly dispatch the bugs. One stupid sw team I was on ages ago… hired contractors to code and test then upon shipping laid many off… lights out nobody home.

A small note regarding key cards not working to start the car. My DE was built at the end of September and I took delivery in late October, for what that's worth. I thought I tested everything at delivery as I was already worried about the keys before I picked it up, but I might not have tested starting the vehicle with no key fobs nearby. Anyway, I discovered this a few weeks ago when my key fob didn't work (was a dead battery in the fob) and my keycard would unlock the car but not be recognized on the center console. I scheduled service and since I'm not near a service center a mobile tech ordered a replacement for the console tray that has the card reader/phone charger and he came out last week to replace it. He spent hours taking it all apart got the new one in, only to find that one didn't work either. Only then did he discover after more research that there was a stop put on those parts and they've discovered some big batch of them have faulty readers on them. It wasn't clear whether this is why my original one wasn't working or not, but sounds like it might affect other recent posters here. Hopefully they will have working ones available for techs to install in the next few weeks, and from another thread it looks like maybe an imminent software update will allow the car to start within 2 minutes after being unlocked so that would be another workaround.

So this morning wife and I are headed to gym. As usual I head into garage with a little trepidation on if I will have any startup issues. But then I notice Gravity has promptly unlocked. As I get in I notice screens are already booted up with not black screen issues and Tidal is already playing. So I think “Great, gonna be a great morning.”

I then put in to reverse and everything goes to hell. First get Adaptive Drive Beam assist message (this is somewhat of a regular message that I a used to ignoring). Wife then mentions that right rear window is slightly down (not sure how that happened as no one gets in/out of that door due to it is where grandson child seat is located). So I pull up on switch for right rear window and instead of going up, it goes down 1/3 way. Pull up again and it goes down another 1/3 way. Finally pull up again and window finally closes. I then get on highway and activate Drive Assist (I have DDPro) and notice that the view on dash of cars around me is very erratic. The car in front of me is shown accurately but all the other cars (I am driving in moderate morning rush hour traffic and weather is clear) are randomly appearing, disappearing, overlaying on top of each other, blind spot shows car, then suddenly it disappears. I then notice that I have warning lights for Lane Departure Detection and Collision Protection Fault Detected ( I now realize I need to print out the Warning Indicators Page from Manual and keep in console for quick reference while driving). Even with these faults, cars seems to be following car in front correctly. So at this point I wonder if I can still trust the blind spot warning indicators (is that info seperate from the on dash info?) Oh, I forgot to mention the regular issue of having to reset the AC to auto after start as that is a regular “feature” I have gotten used to when entering car.

After hour at gym get back in car and all is good (after typical 10 second black screen and short wait for Tidal to boot up). So, I guess maybe car needs that 10 second boot up process to ensure stability of all the other systems?

Here is to hoping that the pending software update that Nick Twork has announced makes serious progress towards stamping out these bugs.

I think the main learnings from these 199 pages are:

- allow the car to boot before driving
- avoid having multiple profiles and phones paired as that seems to be confusing the car
- avoid having proximity unlock enabled
- keep extra FOB batteries on hand

Fob was in my pocket, but I don’t believe the car was locked. When I lost the screens I was stopped, preparing to turn. I think I hit the park button hoping the car would reset, but the screens stayed black. I moved the stalk several times and hit park several times trying to get the car to wake up. The car may have still been drive-able, but at that point I couldn’t see what gear I was in (D, R, P) and had no speedometer or anything else, so it didn’t seem safe to try and pull out into traffic. It would be good to have a LED gear indicator independent of the LCD screen.

I don’t understand this Arctic Blast. If the car memory can’t default to my last setting, then the climate and audio should just default to”off.” How hard is that to program?
The Prnd indicator is behind the drivers hand when shifting… design mistake.

Actually, in my 2 weeks of ownership, the proximity lock/unlock has worked pretty darn good. Two occasions of having to wait for 10-20 seconds and shake key a little but most all other times it unlocks by time I get to car or on rare occasion needs a short fob shake. The original battery in fob is still working and just tested it at 2.95 V, so OK but may need to keep an I on it. As with everything on this site - YMMV

blind spot
has anyone actually confirmed the 2026 blind spot cameras are better than the 2025 versions (which i think are most if not all of the DEs)? or are they still not up to the quality standards of other EVs, especially at this price point?

In my experience, the proximity unlock more consistently unlocks the car than pressing the unlock button on the FOB. One of the only reasons I keep it on is because I have a higher chance of actually being able to unlock the car with it on.

I must have missed the posts that contribute to the conclusion of multiple profiles and phones confusing things. What are the details about that?

I raised the camera quality at my recent Service Center visit and was told nothing is wrong with them.

the front / rear are really great. Dont work in the dark (!!) but good HQ ones.

I believe most cameras are good, just the blind spot ones are terrible. is that what you are seeing too ?

Yeah, it's the blindspot cameras. The Air was similar in the early days so I'm hoping OTA's will improve the quality over time because in their current state, they're worse than the Air.

Sadly, I think it's the hardware. My guess is they decided to use cost reduced units compared to the front & back since they get the job done well enough to show traffic for a few seconds, and can determine object size and shape well enough for ADAS use.

FWIW the Polestar 3 I had for a week recently had front & back cameras that were quite grainy in the dark. Oddly my few years old Land Rover camera's are currently better than both it and the Gravity at night. Go figure.

Personally, I am OK with blind spot cameras but I am coming from a car that did not have them before, so no reference. For me on blind spots, I only need to know if that vehicle on my right side is a truck, car or motorcycle, or nothing at all. I don’t need to read it’s license plate.

As for front/rear view cameras at night, I agree that compared to previous cars, Lucid camera is too dark at night. Being as an avid photographer, there are three ways to adjust for light (exposure triangle). First shutter speed - probably not ideal as it could make video choppy. Aperture - ideal way to add more light is open shutter, if that is possible with these small lenses. Finally, ISO - easy to do as just done in software but if you push it too much, image gets grainy. Hopefully at least one or two of these tools are available with these cameras to improve night vision.

My Model 3 received an OTA update a year and a half into ownershio that improved the cameras immensely. As bad as the Lucids are today, I am hopeful that. is is software, not hardware that is the problem. To be honest, I'll put up with a lot grainy views if the car will start each and everytime I get into it. Baby steps....

I hope anynew update from here on out better start showing strong improvements.

Stupid question but can some people offer lucid help in some way ? at this point, I'm willing to share my 2¢ and my expertise to make it better.

Polestar/Volvo does the latter, it's pretty clear they are pushing the ISO way up to show anything at night, which I guess is both good and bad, at least something is visible. Could be they are using a smaller, cheaper sensor than they should be (considering safety is high on their list I'd find that odd if true). Though some of this could be mitigated by using brighter and larger coverage backup lights, which is what JLR does.

Email customer care and they’ll send to the right team. Doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll do everything you say but one thing I do know is the Lucid is certainly open to feedback.

Don’t take what AI tells you as gospel. Air and Gravity run on Android Automotive.
It also seems obvious that they bought not made alot of the software from Blackberry/ QNX. Which introduces tons of issues potentially since the more partners you have the more arguments you have while trying to debug. They also bought the FOB Hardware from a different vendor. The rear steering and suspension are from Bosch and Bilstein. Lots of parts to integrate. I wonder how much it costs to make 4 wheel steering an option versus just making it standard and not branching the software. This applies to most options. Folks say it takes about a decade to invent and refine any new computer OS. At this point I’d love more transparency so when we notice that Volvo or others are having similar problems we can understand more. Software Defined Vehicles are a very complicated object. Tesla fought thru this about 10 years ago… Chinese branded cars are almost caught up to them. Rivian and Lucid are in a different timeline… at least a few years less integrated and polished. Hopefully catching up fast.

Honestly, I find the blind spot cameras pretty good. I’m wondering if you need to compare yours to another Gravity.
