Gravity Bugs / Issues

This is what my climate control panels look like in View attachment 34794View attachment 34795the co-pilot panel.
This morning I had the defrost button flashing on/off and the Auto button was unresponsive and would not turn on. I hit the defrost button, which caused it to stay on and then the Auto button allowed me to select it and turn Auto on. The reason I went to this screen in the first place was that due to cold rainy morning, windshield was foggy and I could tell defroster was working but not very well (only defrosting the lower 1/3 of windshield.) Fortunately I was not driving as I was letting my son drive the new car. I think going forward we all need to have a dedicated copilot in passenger seat to work the screens to navigate bugs/workarounds so the driver can focus on driving.

Here is a Grok summarization for the Lucid Software for Gravity based on the Savage Geese video:

...
I think that's a reasonably accurate summary of what was said in the video. It also sheds very little light on the details of the architecture, nor of the causes of the bugs we see in the Gravity today. Just to pick an easy example: are they isolating different functions in different instances of virtual machines running Android? Or are all the Android functions running in one instance of Android? Some of the sync-on-startup issues might imply multiple virtual machines, but we don't know.

I'd be surprised if Lucid wasn't fully aware of all the issues being discussed. Between them monitoring this forum, plus the complaints one can find in other forums, the various service calls they get, and their own internal testing, they have to be aware. Rather than trying to respond to individual owners, they could satisfy a lot of people by just being more upfront about issue tracking, and perhaps having a roadmap for which issues they're trying to address in the next couple of OTA updates.
Total agreement on Lucid's awareness of the issues being discussed.
I don't imagine any company nowadays with the use of various technologies, isn't getting customer feedback.
I'm sure there are some that aren't, but pretty sure Lucid isn't one of them.

The whole communication with current and potential customers was greatly discussed while we waited for the release of the Gravity at the start of the year.
More communication was, is, and always will be desired, but what that communication looks like; the content, level of detail, etc., will always be debateable.

The unfortunate reality is no matter what they release, some are still not going to be satisfied.
That's not a knock on anyone.
Just reality and I'm fine with Lucid doing what the believe customers, investors, leadership, etc. expect.

  • Be more upfront about issue tracking brings criticism and disagreement on how that issue tracking; somebody always will suggest it be done their way which is much better ... in their opinion.
  • Provide a roadmap of issues being addressed brings criticism of that roadmap; clearly that roadmap shows their incompetence; why are they not addressing issue x before addressing issue y.
Meanwhile, let's continue posting.
I absolutely do love the posts from the engineers who suggest possibilities to the causes of the issues.
I much prefer those posts over Grok, ChatGPT, ChatGBT(?), or any other AI tool-based post.

The absolute one comment I never want to ever hear again about this forum is ... forum traffic seems slow. :)
I'm sorry. Forgive me, but I'll never forget that post.

See these are the type of posts that possibly are being read and passed on to Lucid engineers.
Seriously.

I kinda understand most of what's being said.
I worked with software engineers enough to not be totally lost.
Fortunately I'm not a Lucid engineer.

I love offering possible solutions.
Who knows. Some of you may be getting DMs from Lucid engineers or your posts being passed onto to them.

Right, they'd never want to be on record admitting the cars have issues
They've done so with subtulties during past earnings calls.

Investors, owners, and others don't need Lucid's admissions.
They hired us for the job.
The pay is greatly helping to fund my retirement.

You're getting paid? I knew I shouldn't had opened a Volunteer account when I joined the forum...

To be clear, the handle presented - just the door itself was frozen shut. I was a little loathe to yank too hard on the handle because I know it's a) electronic and b) plastic but eventually I had to to be able to get the alarm to clear. I don't think it was just a cold issue - I'm assuming the rain from the prior evening had something to do with it. If there was some water intrusion around the door in a place that froze some part of the door to some part of the body, that may have been the issue. I was late, so I didn't have time to inspect and see if there was an obvious place where that was happening, but I did note some frost/ice in places on the body trim as I hastily re-closed the door and hopped back in to drive away.

BTW, "flappy bird," lol.
Totally get it. My point was there should never be an issue in the cold with the door. It’s been solved in so many cars.

Nah. My posts are expert speculation, but still just speculation. Software is complex, and you really need to know the details of the architecture to actually have any sensible advice on how to fix a problem.

You’re not the only one with these kinds of issues regarding dream drive pro. I think some of this can be an attributed to the lack of responsiveness of the steering wheel touchpads. The worst is when you try to press the X button and dream drive does not shut off. Sometimes, many presses will work, other times I just press the brake. This is a major safety issue.
I never use the “x” for this reason. I just use the brake.

My turn: TACC and DriveAssist have just... disappeared, after working fine since July. No warnings/errors, but they are never available. Just the past few days, none of the standard reboots help. *sigh* Guess it's time to call Service.

I had a new one yesterday, both the FOB and the Key card refused to start the vehicle. The key card would be open and lock the car but that was it. I was pn my way to Santa Barbara to drop my daughter at the airport after a quick lunch in SB... So a little stress added! Anyhow the CS folks solved the issue and whilst doing so the call was dropped, I think it was connect to the car and the reboot kicked me out. About an hour later I got a call from the Beverly Hill SC to follow up. Great customer service. I must admit the key card and FOB being down made me a little nervous!

Ya but non-techy guys like me (e.g. that work in healthcare) totally appreciate your much more informed perspective on all of this and look to your "expert speculation" for some sort of hope....better than being completely in the dark and just worrying that buying this car is possibly a really bad idea!

I was able to record the AC vent whistling sound today. Anyone else with similar loud issue ? Seems to be coming from the Windshield vents.
its gotta be a stuck blend door actuator. I think they have a bunch of them that are broken, hence the common blasting HVAC, things blowing cold instead of hot, etc.

A "blend door" is a flap on an actuator. It opens and closes different air passages inside the dash to move the air output, and adjust the temperature. When people are getting blasted in the face on startup, I'm guessing the blend doors are stuck. The car is trying to distribute the air, but the doors are stuck so its just blasting full chooch out one vent. In your case, its partially stuck, and whistling.

Blend doors are a common part of cars, a well understood basic technology...yet Lucid seems to have really screwed the pooch on the Gravity. I can't think of what else could be causing all these problems. Sadly, the fix is the rip the entire dash out and replace the blend doors. I've done it on my Escalade and it SUCKS.

here's an example, Lucid calls them "servo door motor actuators", but they do the same thing. Its a gear driven servo that connects to a flap:

Same here for about 2 weeks and now I have the key problem for the first time and the key card won’t work. My car was pretty flawless until about 2 weeks ago and now it is trying to catch up to everyone else’s problems, I guess. 😢

Interesting that you make a distinction between "software" and "engineering". With EV's in particular they are inextricably co-dependent. You cannot really "engineer" an EV without giving equal attention to the software as we're all finding out.
Not that I'd compare the quality, but there's very little software in my early Nissan Leaf. Its a car--with an electric drive train.

It seems to me that a lot of issues with modern high end EV's come from solutions in search of problems--which they've successfully found.

Is PaaK and proximity unlock cool? Sure. Does it actually improve the quality of my driving life? Not really.

Just so I don't sound like a luddite--TACC and lane keeping, being able to take my hands of the wheel on road trips--yes, that is a huge improvement over old timey cruise control. But actually taking the exit for me? Yes, it is cool and can impress your friends the first time they see it. But doesn't really make my day.

Perhaps it takes Tesla's initial (terrible) stab at FSD to give Waymo's founders the confidence that such a thing might work.

Perhaps it is easier to throw some shite up against the wall at see what sticks. Vent controls on a screen, not so much. Navigation to SC's on a road trip, awesome.

I think a luxury EV could be built with a lot less software. There would be less gee whiz, but also a lot less of the @%$@^%&^#*& that gets expressed here.
