Second row seating was okay, but vastly inferior to Tesla's second row in their 6 position layout. I'm disappointed Lucid doesn't offer a 6 position option, and hope they'll add it before the lease is up on my first Gravity.
Of all the aspects of car design, I have found personal takes on seating and interior room to be the most wildly variable.
We've owned two Model S's since 2015 and have test driven Model X's several times trying to decide if switching to an X would give us the second-row room and comfort so lacking in a Model S. I assumed the 6-seat configuration with its second-row captains chairs would fit the bill. I was astonished to find that the second-row bench seat was actually more comfortable than the captains chairs, although still not enough so to justify switching from a Model S. And I remain astonished that to this day Tesla still doesn't produce a Model X with something as basic as second-row center armrests. With the bench seat, you could at least rest your hand on the seat or put an aftermarket armrest in place from EVannex or the like. But with the 6-seat configuration, your inboard arm either has to rest in your lap or just dangle in the void between the two seats. (The early Model X's offered a center console option, but it was soon discontinued for some reason.)
By contrast, I found the second row of the Gravity to be far more commodious, with more legroom, better arm support, and more adjustability. When a 6'2" 78-year-old friend climbed into the second row during our test drive, after a few minutes he said, "this is the first rear seat I could ride cross country in." And when Jason Cammisa of "Hagerty" got into the second row with the front seat in his preferred driving position, he felt the surprising distance between the front and rear seats to border on the unnatural. I thought that too much a bit of hyperbole until I got into the second row seat myself.
Although I was hoping the Gravity Dream Edition would offer second-row captains chairs, spending time the second row bench seat on several studio visits, I have concluded it will offer plenty of comfort for extended road tripping with aging adult occupants.
I'd still get captains chairs if Lucid offered them. Given the raw space they manage to create and the seating comfort they pull off with it, I suspect a Lucid reclining captains chair would be something really remarkable.
