I have been using the FOB only since I got my Air a few months ago. I briefly tried both the FOB and Phone but it was no bueno. I have no complaints about how the FOB works--I may get a brief delay or need to jiggle the FOB in my pocket, but I thought I'd try the phone only and see how that goes.

I am curious about what most of you use to unlock your Air. How to you roll?

Phone only or both. Since 2.8.4 that car seems to wake up a bit sooner with phone only.

The fob is more reliable for me, and the phone more convenient (Pixel 9 and Pixel 10).
In the rainless summer I switched from fob to phone.
When the rain returns, we'll see if I'm tempted to go back to the fob to minimize waiting outside the car.

I readily appreciate the variable experiences other owners have with FOB vs phone.

My preference: iPhone only, but I always carry the valet card as a back up in the event I have a phone issue. So far, I've never been in a position where I had to use the valet card.

My experience: While the FOB is marginally better than the iPhone, I far prefer the convenience of not having to carry a FOB.

I was mobile only for first 9 months but have started carrying fob too since with a small kiddo hands are always full and can’t always tap my phone. Carrying both has not caused any issues, handles present themselves well in advance of my approach to car now.

Older iPhone and card as a backup! Only had to resort to card 2 times in 2.5yrs!

Phone only most of the time. Took the fob with me on a long day trip, as a backup. The phone works well enough for me, and having the fob around made things weird a couple of times.

Why would you tap your phone?

Both phone and fob, to increase the probability of a kill...

Why would you tap your phone?
To wake up the Bluetooth stack. It falls asleep, so shaking the phone or tapping it or looking at the screen will wake it up.
