Lucid Gravity Grand Tour
Is the floor height of the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring affected by the wheel configuration you choose?
  • 20"/21"
  • 21"/22"
  • 22"/23"

According to Google AI it doesn't. But I wanted to cross-verify this AI in this forum:

The Lucid Gravity's
floor height does not significantly change based on whether it has 20" or 22" wheels, because the overall tire diameter is maintained across different wheel options. The car compensates by adjusting the tire sidewall height: smaller wheels have larger sidewalls, and larger wheels have smaller, lower-profile sidewalls.

The main thing I want to achieve is

  • Get a more SUV look rather than minivan look.
  • Be able to go over bumps and steep driveways without scraping the bumper (California has a lot of strangely steep driveways).

And is that achievable through larger wheels?

No. They all have the same overall diameter. It’s a matter of more rim or more sidewall.

I’m hoping they come out with a GPS-aware height adjustment. A driveway I frequently use really needs the car to be in “high” or “highest”, but I have to manually adjust now.

I’ve gone over tons of bumps in Standard with no issue.

Can’t help with the “SUV look” except to say I think it looks more aggressive in stealth v platinum.

Looks aside, I think raising the height to at least "standard" or better yet to the highest setting is wise when contemplating a lot of driveways here (or anywhere..also in deeper snow)
and smaller wheels/more sidewall = less chance of tire damage when you hit potholes/unexpected bumps and better performance off pavement or in snow.

PLUS....have you priced replacement tires? Huge difference in the three sizes as posted better on here by others

This. I learned my lesson on our X. Spending $3k for tires every 10k miles got old. I purposely got our GDE with the smallest rims for range, comfort, and tire replacement costs. I won't be taking it out on the track and pushing the envelope where the bigger rims matter.

The Gravity should be better. Teslas have a lot more wear in the rears because of the negative camber from the factory, especially with the larger wheels. They also send out a lot of cars with bad alignments that should be adjusted right away. Ours had a lot of sway at higher speeds when it was brand new and it had to be aligned in the first few hundred miles, I saw a lot of other owners complaining about the same thing.

Fwiw, my rear Air DE summer tires on the 21s lasted about 25k miles or so, and I just now need to replace the fronts and am about to hit 28k. So if it's anything like the Air, it should wear well. And I don't drive for "hypermiling" or "efficiency." I don't buy 1000HP+ cars to go slow. :P

No idea yet about the Gravity of course - but because it's our SUV, we decided the middle all-season wheels were worth it, both for cost and for traction in non-summer climates.

Regardless of size, having staggered tires will create the need to replace them more often (I think). Since they can’t really be rotated, I was always told with our P90D X, for example, that if you replace one of the fronts due to wear, you have to do both - same for rears. I expect the same is true for Gravity.

Clearly, performance/3 season don’t last as long as A/S, but still, I believe the need to replace in pairs is the same.

I just did that without ever confirming. Others here will know far more.

Yes. Same thing I did. Even on the Air, the tires are staggered for the 21s as well, and I did replace them in pairs, but they wore really evenly.
