Ferrari Luce EV

You seem to be the only one referencing specs of us two. I personally bought my supercars for (a) looks and (b) driving feel. I love my AGT, but it can't compare on driving feel due to weight and lack of engine vibration/sound. The Luce will be no different, which leaves us with... looks and brand/exclusivity to drive an emotion-based purchase? I'll pass on the looks.
The primary problem is unlike other Ferraris that hold their value, the Luce will be worth 150K in 3 years....

I would go with crossover

I would have to believe they showed it to prospective customer and have an order book
I get the interior and think it will be a lot for fun to drive and the controls will be very enjoyable to use
The exterior is a head scratcher
Is it for 40 year olds who made beyond $50 million or the very old money folks who want a green car that can take a family of 5 to Loro Piana for back to school shopping

This is exactly the problem with modern car discussions. Everything gets reduced to spec sheets and “value per dollar” arguments by people who fundamentally do not understand why exotic brands exist.

“If the Ferrari EV doesn’t sound like an ICE Ferrari, then why buy it?” Because Ferrari was never just an exhaust note. That’s part of it, not the entirety of it.

You people talk about cars like accountants shopping for appliances. By this logic:

Nobody should buy a Rimac Nevera because a Plaid is cheaper.
Nobody should buy a Porsche GT3 because a Corvette is cheaper.
Nobody should buy a Rolex because a Casio tells time.
Nobody should buy waterfront property because inland homes are cheaper.

You’re flattening emotional products into spreadsheet exercises. And the irony is hilarious because Lucid fanboys are doing the exact same thing Tesla fanboys used to do a decade ago. “Why buy X when my car has more range and horsepower?”

Because some people care about
Brand heritage
Rarity
Craftsmanship
Design language
Exclusivity
Theater
Emotional experience
Historical significance
All of which are subjective.

The fact that you can’t understand why someone would buy a Ferrari unless it “wins” on paper is proof you’re evaluating exotic cars through the mindset of a consumer electronics reviewer. Ferrari’s FIRST EV doesn’t need to beat the Sapphire on every metric. Ferrari’s customer base is not cross-shopping like a Costco buyer trying to maximize ounces per dollar.
Two issues you don’t mention.

1. Price at 640k
2. If you put a Honda badge on it, no one would notice.

That’s why it’s a failure.

Holy moly. $600k! Truly a HEINOUS car. Can't believe that this is a viable product after the 11 people get one for status symbol. This car is proof that money can't buy class.

Ouch!

Jaguar “ watch me destroy 75 years of product identity with an ill conceived car and marketing totally at odds with everything we have ever done”
Ferrari “ Hold my beer…”

I knew you couldn’t help but comment, I was anticipating it. Your argument is basically “If you changed the badge to a different badge, I would view the car differently.” Incredible analysis. Well done.

You Lucid fanboys keep trying to force Ferrari into a Lucid style spreadsheet comparison about range, horsepower, storage, and value, completely missing the point of exotic brands. Nobody spending Ferrari money is sitting there thinking, “Damn, but the Lucid has more cargo space.”

That’s how people shop for appliances, not exotic cars.

You have to be trolling at this point? You're the only one in this thread that has mentioned range, horsepower and storage.

Come on, let’s not pretend those arguments don’t dominate this forum. Half the Luce discussions immediately turn into “the Sapphire has more range,” “Lucid charging is better,” or “Lucid’s software/ADAS will be ahead.” There’s literally a spec comparison thread at the start of this discussion. Here I’ll help, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the back arrow to see the first page in the thread and a there is a spec comparison post.

My point has been consistent the entire time, people keep evaluating Ferrari like it’s a spreadsheet competition instead of an exotic brand purchase. I’m not even defending the Luce itself. I don’t think it looks good and I probably would’ve waited longer before Ferrari entered EVs. You don’t see me commenting I would never buy one because my Gravity has more range. What a ridiculous statement.

Also, the constant “I would never buy one” comments are funny because most people saying that were never realistic buyers in the first place. It’s easy to armchair hypothetical purchases when there’s no actual check being written.

Interesting that you feel you need to lecture people on why they should or shouldn't like a car, but whatever.

How's this for an analysis: it is uglier than an aardvark's asshole.

I was wondering why it seems that you're taking the criticism of this car so this personally, then i saw the cars in your flair...

You are actually completely missing the point. The argument you're making is actually against yourself. The fact that people buy ferraris is because of the emotional connection. You are assuming this EV will have everything a ferrari normally has....which by all accounts, we know most of the emotional things that make a ferrari a ferrari will be missing from this vehicle.

Nevermind specs. Let's just look at why you buy a ferrari: looks, brand exclusivity, driving feel, theatre, etc. Other than brand exclusivity, what exactly do you have with this? The looks are being panned (rightfully so...even I have come around to being okay with the M3's looks in certain situations...this has no redeeming qualities except for the rear tailights...and even at that). The driving feel is to be determined but Porsche and Lucid are the only ones that have come close to a driving enthusiast feel so pardon my skepticism if ferrari got it right immediately and made the first true enthusiast EV. There's no theatre or emotional response when there's no sound, you don't row your own gears, there isn't an autmoatic gearbox that sparks that emotion (like dual clutch or an amazing torque converter transmission, etc.).

So factor in all that AND it loses the spec sheet race, it feels DOA. When I bought my porsches, did i buy them because they were the fastest possible car I could get with my money? No..I bought them because of the feel, the theatre, the looks, the brand, etc. It's slightly the same with the lucid I have; it is known to be one of the best handling/driving EVs while being pretty good on the spec sheet for speed, range, functionality.

I know you'll reply with some kind of defensive comment but i won't feel the troll any more than this.

Fair, I missed the spec comparison earlier. It seems where we differ in opinion here is I don't think EVs can truly be exotic until battery tech gets better, allowing for more "exotic" car design driven by lighter weight, higher capacity batteries. And even then, I don't think EVs do a great job in conveying the raw emotion/feel of ICE cars. Thus, I have no problem comparing the Luce in its current state to a Sapphire or Taycan Turbo GT.

You wrote an entire essay explaining my point while somehow thinking you disagreed with me. I already said I don’t think the Luce looks good and I also said Ferrari probably should’ve waited longer before releasing an EV. So congratulations on arguing against points I already made.

My issue was never “the Luce is perfect.” My issue is the constant Lucid fanboy logic of, “Why buy Ferrari EV when Lucid has better range/specs/value?”

That’s the argument I was mocking from the beginning. And the irony here is incredible because your entire Porsche explanation proves exactly why spec sheet arguments are shallow. You bought your Porsches for feel, emotion, brand, theatre, and experience. Not because they dominated every metric on paper. That is literally my point.

As for the “Ferrari without sound isn’t Ferrari” argument, maybe. Maybe not. We genuinely don’t know yet because nobody outside Ferrari has driven the production car. But acting like Ferrari, one of the greatest driver focused brands in automotive history is incapable of creating emotional engagement without an exhaust note feels premature. We will have to wait and see.

People buy a Ferrari for several reasons. The style , the heritage, the exclusivity, the performance which all helps “brand” the car. The thing about the Luce is breaks from every one of those things except perhaps the performance, and even then you can get a more stylish EV with more performance with the Rimac, the Plaid or the sapphire. I understand Ferrari wanting to expand their market into non traditional areas but this was several steps outside their branding. They are having trouble selling their sp90 electric/ gas hybrid even though it looks like a typical Ferrari, sounds like one and is brutally quick. That should have been the canary in the coal mine for them but they jumped into the deep end of the pool anyway.

Ferrari has realized EV’s have brought supercar performance to the “masses”. Till now, you would buy a Ferrari for performance. I used to salivate at a 0-60 of 4 seconds when I was a teenager. Now, anyone can get that in a 50k EV. Takes away the performance element . Leaves emotion, looks and heritage. Leave out the handling at those extremes, no one drives like that on public roads.

Ferrari had to compete in the EV space, they know EV sales will continue to rise. Chinese Ferrari sales were dropping. The newer generation have never seen a Countach or F40 and don’t care about heritage. Unfortunately they don’t have the technical knowledge to build a good looking supercar EV. If the lowered the Luce and added splitters and spoilers, the range would have dropped below 300 miles in the WLTP cycle.

Ferrari has just shown what a magnificent machine the Lucid Air Sapphire is. Beats it in looks, performance, space, efficiency, range. Ferrari in big trouble in the future.

All I know is, I’ve dreamed of owning a Ferrari all my life, and this monstrosity couldn’t be further away from what was in my dreams.

Who cares about the actual specs compared to any other car on the planet when it is this butt ugly to begin with.

The Luce is not for me either
I have a new Amalfi coming next month
They still build cars with ICEs and the EV will help that to continue
I can't even imagine how much their brand is being talked up this week
And that should lead to inquiries/orders/purchases of the new ICE/Hybrids in the current range and add upward pricing pressure to past models

I mean, the Sapphire is actually more rare....I doubt either are exclusive, you can sign up and buy either (Sapphire or Luce) at anytime with enough funds...
