Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

It looks like this discussion really grew legs! I thought I’d take a moment to drop a quick, positive reminder for us all. Life is short, so let’s focus on enjoying these amazing cars for ourselves, our families, and our friends. We have a beautiful three-day weekend ahead of us, and it would be a missed opportunity not to get out there and enjoy the drive. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Right! I just completed a 2300 mile trip and somehow returned without being annoyed about software. In fact, didn't even cross my mind. I was however, glad I had a comfortable car to do the trip. If it were in my Mach-e, ooof, that would have been a much less pleasant trip.

We’re sitting at a Buc-ee’s in central Georgia, over 500 miles from home, waiting for an Uber and a tow truck. Stranded for the second time on a road trip in our older Gravity. And again with the same symptoms of a drive unit failure. I may start my own YouTube channel.
Unbelievable, I would have walked a long time ago.

I don’t think I’ve encountered anyone in my life with more patience than you. Hope this disaster is more quickly resolved than some of your other issues.

It’s your best chance at avoiding a lawyer lol

I have been told in other venues that Lucid is now focusing on getting cars out faster because there are so many lemon law claims from letting cars sit for weeks and failed multiple repairs, that they are training service centers not to do that anymore. They are also completely swamped with lemon law claims, and that’s why they are making people fight them now.

So sounds like in the past they were more honorable about it but now have this situation they’ve created. Let’s hope it works out for them.

You should lemon that Gravity

Just when you thought Lucid is turning things around, they mess up again! Great job!

Uber sent a Honda Odyssey to take us to Enterprise. This was the car we sold to clear our garage of ICE cars when we got our second Gravity. I’ve never had such a wave of nostalgia and regret sweep over me.

Just heard from Emad Dlala. It’s the rear drive unit that failed this time. It was the front drive unit the prior time. Apparently the result of a faulty chip in the inverter both times. Note that Dream Editions use the same motors on both axles, wheread GTs have a smaller front motor. Don’t know if the inverters differ.

It looks like they will have more Lemons than the cars sold this quarter :p
This video accelerate the rate of Lemon law filings.

Back to the future!

have you asked them to buy these back?

It turns out that they had started a lemon law case on the car back in February without my knowing it. I only found out when a contract lawyer Lucid was having review the cases called me. I told him to stop the review as I did not want to get rid of the car. Yet.

funny they did that for me too, then disagreed with themselves (legal overrode service) and forced me into arbitration. They're gonna lose, but its annoying.

I've said this before but I really think Gravity software issues are driving a bunch of lemon law/service cases. It's critical they fix it ASAP. Really have to wonder who signed off on the software at SoP in December 2024.

Man you are a glutton for punishment. There is no award at the end for sticking it out the longest - cut your losses and regain your sanity. I’d absolutely let Lucid buy those back and let them tear them down for an autopsy on their time and dime, not yours.

At some point you have to believe the truth about your cars - they keep telling you what they are but you keep wanting them to be something different.

Faulty chip??? This is a complete BS. Are they making these chips in a garage somewhere in Arizona?

This is an opportunity for Jason to show his engineering roots, with pragmatic level headed comparisons to other EVs on the market. Let's see how awesome the rear HVAC controls are on the IONIQ products, Mach-E, Polestar, GM, Rivian, etc. Compare frunk, doors, trunk functionality, CarPlay/Andriod, hold/release function, and all other software aspects.

As far as the software ethos in cars is concerned, I'm intrigued by the advertised approach of upcoming Slate trucks. Stick your own portable device on the dash and call it a day.
Are you expecting him to buy each of these cars, drive it exclusively for a year and then report? He bought an Air. He spoke of it highly when he got it. Then the reality struck.

Two and a half hours for the head of HW and SW to be in touch on a Saturday of a National Holiday weekend. You, and the forum by association, have their ear! That kind of attention hasn't happened before, as far as I know...

You rock Emad and Lucid - keep it up!!

We’re over 100 miles down the road in a rental car and got the following message from Lucid:

“After further review with Engineering, it has been determined that the vehicle experienced a rapid power cycle, which registered a fault in the RDU. Once this fault occurred, it caused the vehicle to enter and remain in a limited‑power state for the remainder of the drive cycle until the vehicle completed a full sleep cycle.

The unexpected limited‑power condition is currently under investigation with plans of being resolved in a future software update.

Although this issue is rare and requires a specific sequence of events to occur, please advise the customer if the issue recurs, to perform a vehicle sleep cycle of 10 seconds or more, which should recover the vehicle from this condition. More information on performing a "power cycle" is available in the owners manual (Page 190).”

Unfortunately, Customer Care was not open when this occurred, and the Service Center I called did not advise me to put the car through a sleep cycle. We were pulled over on a rural side road, anyway, with no nearby buildings and a thunderstorm looming.
