Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

If I had an established YouTube channel where I have discussed cars and related technology and I just happened to buy a Lucid and have the issues he is having...

...I would have no issue posting videos about it.

It would have nothing to do with making money or existing status as a YouTuber (other than already having a channel. I wouldn't create one just for that). He bought the car. His experience is his own and he is free to communicate that experience to others.

Some of you act like there is some conflict or the fact that his status as YouTuber has swayed his choice to discuss this in the way his is, or that such a status should preclude you from doing so. The videos are a product of his experience. It's a weird take to say otherwise.
I have no problem whatsoever with his videos, opinions, and conclusions. I’m merely pointing out that he makes a living off of amplifying his experiences. It’s up to the viewer to decide how reflective that is of their individual ownership experience. At the end of the day it’s just a car. If it’s everything you’ve wanted and hoped for great. If not you have other options.

My Air, apart from the key fob from hell, has been relatively trouble-free. The thing that I find irritating is that Lucid (unless you are a famous YouTube influencer) seems to be totally oblivious to owner feedback and minor things that should have been fixed years ago, are still an issue today. I don't have all day to list them all, but easy fixes would be the damn key fob, the steering wheel blocking the driver attention camera, the steering wheel not extending far enough, the lack of a grab handle on the front passenger side, the lack of coat hooks on the rear grab handles, no sun glasses holder, no tie-downs in the frunk and trunk, no "don't use toll roads" in the navigation, etc. All these things are easy and very cheap fixes and should have been addressed after the first model year, but they are still not fixed in 2026! The Lucid Air is the automotive equivalent of the Artemis II - they got the whole going around the moon thing right, but the toilet didn't work. No wonder my Lucid stock is a disaster!

Just as the Verified Owner tag provides valuable context to statements made here, knowing financial positions in Lucid stock would be interesting as well. Coming up on my one year Lucid anniversary, there are times I find myself shaking my head at some of the things I read here. Perhaps that person owns thousands of shares of LCID. While this other person probably has a huge short position. FWIW, I really like my Lucid most of the time. I would like to love it all the time. And I have no financial position in the stock.

Did Lucid ever invite EE to go to Lucid HQ and talk to their engineers?
I've seen video of Jason speaking to Lucid execs. Don't recall if it was at HQ, a Studio, or an event. But it has happened.

I like his channel, but this one is slightly annoying for two reasons; One is that Lucid is struggling so much, and two, he is exploiting Lucid's pains for his own gain. This sort of video series is extremely damaging to the brand.
I'm honestly surprised that Lucid didn't make him sign an NDA as terms of the buy back seeing as it wasn't an official Lemon Law take back. I couldn't watch 5 minutes of his video due to his annoying voice. It does suck that he had so many issues, but his experience of Lucid (or any other car manufacturer) taking the car back is not representative due to his "status" as a "Youtuber"

oh, yes it is. Lucid is not at ALL offering this to anyone else. I am being forced into arbitration with them, my car has been out over 70 days, its STILL in service, Lucid service initiated the buyback request themselves .... and yet Lucid is fighting me all the way to the finish line. And I am not alone in this situation.

I really hope they dissect his car and inspect it with a microscope to figure out what's going on there.

Obviously software is part of the issue, but given the nature and randomness of his issues, and those of others, it makes me think there's an issue with the wiring harnesses and/or the communications bus, and/or something wrong with the controller hardware. For instance, random issues like this could be manifestations of network transmission errors, or in CPU or memory (do they use ECC memory?), or even instability in the power supply to the compute hardware. Or a combination of all/both.

Some of this can certainly be detected and mitigated in software, but I think they need to be looking at both the software and the hardware to track down what's causing so many people to have random issues while others have very few or only minor issues.

Engineering is taking mine apart again I think, they took it apart for a few weeks and had me in an email chain, thought they fixed it. Fix didn’t stay so now it’s back in California getting torn down again.

The difference is I am still paying for it and they won’t buy it back.

100%. Let's see how he gets on with his used GT350, a car I love but is also not known for being problem free in ways that are not just minor annoyances, but actual high expenses to fix. Although EE's already has a replaced engine...

Was his experience representative when he posted his first (glowing) review of the Air?

Apple CarPlay- always use wired, wireless glitches in every car I used it.
I gotta say, the Gravity is the first car I've had with Android Auto that so far hasn't had an issue connecting wirelessly (yet). There's a number of issues I have with the car, but that one (which is common on others) has surprised me to the upside. I gotta give em credit for that.

On road trips, I'll still end up plugging in anyway simply to keep the phone charged. It uses quite a big of juice running AA for hours.

I cannot fathom why they sent him a Gravity that was not perfectly functioning.

fire everybody
This are the things that can be considered under “ I dont care attitude”. They keep repeating same issues everytime.

This is exactly the kind of blind brand loyalty that hurts companies long term. Wireless CarPlay glitches? Minor issue. Sure. Different AC temps side to side? Annoying but fixable. But a car unexpectedly rolling because the hold feature disengaged and rear doors intermittently not opening are not “wanting a perfect car.” Those are legitimate safety and quality concerns. But no, because you know all, he must’ve of switched it off himself. His Lucid could not of possibly had a software glitch. Preposterous!
If someone asked you:
“Would you buy a $90k+ luxury car where the rear doors sometimes don’t open and your preselected features may come undone?” The answer from basically every normal person is no.
It’s bizarre how some people will defend a company so hard they stop applying common sense. Criticism is not hatred. Pointing out problems is how products improve. You can like Lucid and still acknowledge issues. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

That's the mentality (why do people deserve a "perfect car") that drive companies like Jaguar out of business.

When Japanese cars first made their early entry into the US market in the 1970s, US consumers dismiss them. Today, Japanese cars, especially Toyota/Lexus, are the benchmarks of quality, problem-free automobiles.

It is easy to fall in love with a car like Lucid at first sight. It has sex appeal, fun to drive, appeals to all the vanities within us. Then you bought/leased one. Now, you are married to it. Now the marriage has been consummated, you discover all the "bad habits" this car has (e.g., the door locks, akin to leaving the toilet seat up at home). You think such behavior is a SW problem that can be easily fixed. That's your delusion!

You are stuck with it!
Expecting Toyota like reliability from a new car company that is software driven, is plain stupidity.

Crying about it on YouTube for minor issues is toddler like.

Lucid knows it has problems, they don’t need EE to tell them about it on YouTube. Some people had worse issues, you don’t see them crying about it to the world.

Ghosh, the rear door did not open for a few minutes, CarPlay did not work a couple of times, roll was activated, cup holders too strong,…..I mean give me a break! I see him as entitled and unrealistic in his expectations.

And I don’t buy the “ I paid 100k for this so it should be perfect” …..that argument doesn’t hold. You can buy a rangerover for 200k…..it should be perfect, right? So a Ferrari should not have a single issue? Even mechanically? You paid 500k so it should never ever have a single issue.

I laugh whoever I hear people complaining about mundane things. Get a Toyota if you want perfection. You shouldn’t even be going near a German car.

Most of the problems were minor, no big deals. Apple CarPlay- always use wired, wireless glitches in every car I used it. The roll, he must have pressed it by mistake. Agree door locks are an issue, but it worked a bit later.

He just seems to want a “ perfect car”…..he should go buy a Toyota.

But Lucid should never have given him another vehicle. He is one of those who complains about every minor thing.
I experienced the roll mode issue back in January 2026 on my 2025 AT. Was parked on a steep hill and it was very scary when the car started rolling quickly backwards when in drive. It holds the brake for a couple seconds, so it feels like you’re still in HOLD until it unexpectedly releases.

It’s very difficult to change this setting by mistake if you aren’t on that settings page, as it is buried several menus deep. I know for sure this wasn’t the case for me. I’d imagine others rarely fiddle with the drive settings page.

I emailed [email protected] about this after it happened but apparently it still hasn’t been fixed, which is unnerving. I’ve seen other reports on Reddit of this happening recently too. Lucid should just make it always default to HOLD mode.

You should start making YouTube videos…..that will scare them into buying back your car

Steep hill? Did it roll back in park? Hold is only for when you are stopped and in drive/reverse. I’m sure a steep inclination might move a car even in hold mode when you select drive/reverse.

Yikes. This is the kind of video that can kill a motor company. Just ask MKBHD and Fisker

Doubt it. He's looking for clicks and views for fractions of pennies. He complained about the cup holders needing too much force to remove a can. Unfortunately, I gave him another view by watching. As they say in the news business -- "if it bleeds, it leads..." Negativity sells. My Air has been one of the most trouble-free cars I have owned over the decades, now in its 5th year of daily driving with over 65K miles.

The irony here is truly unbelievable. You’re calling someone unreasonable while defending a car company like it’s your family bloodline. That is peak fanboy behavior.

A guy points out software glitches, doors not working properly, CarPlay issues, random bugs, and poor refinement on a six-figure luxury car… and your response is “How dare you expect the product to work consistently.” That’s insane.

Nobody said Lucid should be perfect. The point is that when you charge $100k+, people are going to judge the experience at a higher standard. That’s how luxury products work. If the rear doors randomly fail, software bugs happen repeatedly, and core features are unreliable, customers are allowed to criticize it publicly. That’s not “crying.” That’s called being a consumer.

And the “well Ferraris and Range Rovers have issues too” argument is super weak. People criticize those brands constantly for reliability problems too. Expensive cars are not magically immune from criticism just because other expensive cars also have issues.

What’s really bizarre is how extremely emotionally invested you seem in protecting a corporation from feedback. Lucid doesn’t know you. You’re not on the payroll. Yet you’re acting personally offended because someone made a YouTube video about bugs in their car. That level of blind brand loyalty is exactly why companies stop feeling pressure to improve.

Gaskiller - I find it interesting how personal you take every critique and how quickly you are to dismiss others. You might explore why your personality is so wrapped up in the success of Lucid and why you discount others even when you clearly don’t read their explanations very closely.

I just have the crazy belief that if I exchange my money for your product and all the features you promised, then that product and those features should flat out work. After all, the money I gave you in exchange works immediately, all the time. Not some of the time, not for some of the other owners, and not only some of the features - this is not too much to expect. In fact, it’s kinda the bare minimum.

This applies to more than just Lucid obviously, but they in no way should get a pass for being new-ish. If you take my money, you have to deliver - period.
Yeah, like FSD and Tesla?
